Introducing Green Day's Music To Your Friends

If you were to introduce a friend to Green Day's music, where would you begin ?

I'm just wondering, because I recently played some to a friend of mine who had never actually heard them before and the result was a pleasant surprise.

He usually listens to what I guess can be described as easy listening type of music, like Barry White, Bob Marley and Simon and Garfunkel, and had not so much sneered at my love of Green Day but kinda gave me the vibe he didn't understand it. I guess this was just a preconception, due to never actually having listened to any of their stuff.

So when he was in my car the other day and going through some cd's I told him to put on International Superhits, and when Longview and Welcome To Paradise came on he turned up the volume and really got into it. So now I'm gonna lend him a couple albums and he seems pretty impressed with what he's heard.

So have you guys got any similar stories or like I said before, where would you begin in educating your friends to the finer things in life (in the form of Green Day) ?

well, i recently got all my friends loving Jaded! neehehe!... :whistling: - everyone loves it now!

"This be Green Day...listen to it, bitch" *plays random Green Day track*

some like it, some dont

none if my friends have become hardcore Green Day fans but some listen more to it now then before

You have to pretty much live under a rock to have never heard Green Day.

my friends are too old for that. You know what they say, you cant teach an old dog new tricks. So why bother? Their loss.

Two of my friends didn't like Green Day too much, but I made them listen to 1,000 Hours and then they just listenened to it all the time after that

i listen to GD every day so my sister(for example) now likes some of their songs(especially Give me novocaine, The saints are coming, Holiday and Working class hero) :)

but..what about my friends...i can't say something coz one of my friend listens to GD too...and other listen to radio or only songs which are popular right now :/

It sucks. :o Do you really have no good guys around you?

They're good friends with awful msuic taste. You can take the piss out of them for it but there's no point letting it get in the way.

Unless they're chavs

Even chavs need mates I suppose:

"Here, listen to this it's Green Day and it's really cool"

"But am I bovvered though ? Look, face look, bovvered? No "

Posted

No, I tend to get 'I'll kick da shit out of yu boi' or 'I'll smash ya fuckin' face in'

There's no point even trying

That's so strange! Someone who hasn't heard of Green Day?!?! Bizarre!! They've been around for....what is it....17-18 years!! I think everyone I've ever met knows who they are, and have heard their music. But if I did have to begin somewhere, I'd start at the beginning! Album by album they will become one of us! lol

Two of my best friends hate Green Day. They banned me to speak about them.

I dont ever push my music taste onto my friends.

They know I like Green Day, so I figure they know who Green Day are, if they want to listen to it then they can... its not my place to "force" or "encourage" people to listen to music of my taste.

yeah I think ISH is a good one to start with cause whatever song they like then they can get the album that its originally on. plus I started out with ISH at first

Posted

What i did was make them a mix-tape of all my fave ones (ok a bit copyrightly wrong [????]) but it works

i would show them older albums deffinetly. becuase everyone has heard american idiot so they think all green day is like that.

i would probably show them 1039... or kerplunk. because they are the most different from a.i. and the person would see green day in a very different point of view.

or i would show them ish becuase it has all the good old songs!

I wear a green day badge at school, and my mates used to be quite similar to me, in the way we dress and the music we listen to and stuff but all of a sudden, they turned "chavvy" (if i must use that), they used to love green day, but now they deny it and take the piss out of me for liking them, and wearing the warning badge. Its funny, the way they won't admit they like/d them.

Boulevard of broken dreams...I showed my friend the video, and she loved it. but she doesnt like all of their music.

I had a friend who claimed he hated Green Day. I popped on Warning, he fell in love.

when i was in 6th grade, my best friend was Annie. she had never heard Green Day before, so I burned her a copy of AI. she hated it. but then, she came across a copy of ISH in a store, and she fucking loved it. i guess some people like Green Day's old stuff better than their new stuff.

btw, Annie became a Mike Dirnt teenie. so watch out when you introduce someone into Green Day. you might be creating a teenie.

i remember when I was in 6th and I invited a few of my mates to my house and when we were in my room, I put on some early Green Day and soon enough, they started asking what band I was playing and I ended up burning them copies :D
