a lot of ppl have said this and I think they just wanted to get their message out. American Idol raised a ridiculous amount of money and is watched by millions so I guess they did it for the cause.

Hey Nessie. I dont think this was about them, I think this was about reaching millions of people with their message to help the people of Darfur and to help sell a shitload of Instant Karma albums.

They used American Idol to get what they wanted. How Green Day of them. : )

I made a decision a long time ago to focus on their music only... otherwise it gets too complicated.

it really makes sense for them to play on American Idol whether we agree with it or not. they'll reach a hell of a lot of people, mainly the people that buy a lot of music. it will be good promotion for the Instant Karma CD, Amnesty International, and the Darfur cause. its not like they are on their specifically to promote themselves and their own music

I am sitting here reading through everything everyone had to say, but you pretty much summed up what I was going to.

I really don't like American Idol, but I know why they did it now. After watching it, it was just. Wow. Billie did John justice.

They did an incredible job, and I think drew more attention than a lot of other shows would have by far.

I am happy now they did it, even if I wasn't that happy about it at first.

Seeing them do it, realizing how much flack they are going to take, but they still did it. I agree, it wasn't for self promotion. It was for the album, and the single.
