Just listened to it. It's OK, but nothing too special.

He joined a couple months after you. I'm not sure you're in much of a position to be calling out n00bs.

Um, that wasn't me quoting someone else. Someone else quoted me. That's not my fault. I know how to quote.

i'm telling again: i quoted you. prettyontheinside thought i was the one saying what you said. i told her i quoted you, that's why she got confused. i said your post was above me, and that happens when you quote someone (you already knew that).

was i clear?

you guys can quote as much you like.. as we all know in General Chat most ppl dont read post above, nevermind posts in another pages. thats why i hate to come in General Chat because most of the time ppl just calling each other names or spend most of your time arguing about nothing.

If I was to go with the posts above me this would be a whinge about quoting, or newbies or something else which may be more appropriate in PM, maybe? Mind if I go with the thread title?

I'm loving the new cover. Not only because I feel it's a beautiful song, and always has been, but its a non sycophantic tribute to a man that Green Day clearly have a lot of reverence for, but with enough of an individualistic twist to preserve the band philosophy for doing their own thing.

I have reservations about the video and just hope that Sam Bayer reins in the visuals and goes with stills, cut with band performance (?). Hopefully it wont be too long before we find out.

Yeah, I'm hoping for just the band playing the song - there's more than enough going on with that!

Posted

That's exactly how I feel about it, I'd like it to be understated and focus on the song more than the visuals.

I hope so too Angeline.

With Sam in the drivers seat, it scares me sometimes. :o

I agree with all of you - I really hope Sam can keep it simple.

I finally purchased the song on iTunes last week. I love to hear Billie's voice again. He is amazing. He sings the song incredibly, and I love how Lennon finishes off the song at the end. I don't think this song should in anyway forshadow the sound of their next album. We'll have to wait and see. This is just a cover song of a man Billie has long admired, and the song is appropriate for the cause they are supporting. I'm curious if the article in Rolling Stone "Working Class Heroes" was a clue to this project, or was it just coincedance?

somebody shoot sam bayer in the face already

I should imagine the video will at least have some references to Dafur. if it was a new green day song, rather than one they have done to raise money, then maybe it would be just the band but I doubt it will be.

I think, that is a good point you make.

I,too would love to have the fucos on the band - but I can see, that this might not be the case.

Yeah and aswell because the song is so simple (musically not lyrically of course) if theres all shitty effects and stuff people are just going to focus on the video and not the song.

I am really into production of music videos and stuff but i still think the video should be to accompany the song not for the song to accompany the video...

I really do hope The trio are in it alot...

Just cause

I agree. I hope it doesn't get too reverential. Even though Lennon is an icon, of course, I hope it's not a tribute but something fresh and simple that captures the point of the song.

I loved Lennon's vocals at the end of the song when I first heard it, but even that seems almost a little too much after several listens. He's left a huge mark, and so have the song's lyrics and music: he doesn't need to be enshrined.
