Life before Green Day

At first, I didn't listen to any band in particular. I'd listen to the music my parents were listening on the CD player and on the radio. Then I bought (I'm ashamed to say it) Avril Lavigne's first album, then the second one when it came out. My brother (who's younger than me) had actually more CD's than I had (he had Sum 41, Linkin Park, Simple Plan). For the '04 Christmas I asked Black Eyed Peas' Elephunk because I thought since I liked all the singles I'll liked the album. It wasn't the case and my brother accepted to exchange my BEP CD with the Simple Plan CD he had just receive. And than I bought Good Charlotte and Sum 41 (not the same as my brother so we could listen to both). I don't know why, but at first I didn't like Green Day. And I don't really remember why one day I asked my parents if they could buy Green Day's American Idiot. All I know is that since this day (and I remember the date, don't think I'm crazy, it was in April 2005, the 25th) I'm a huge Green Day fan. I've bought all their albums, I waited patiently for 21st Century Breakdown. I'd came here everyday to see if there was an update. I've only seen them once in show, but I'm seeing them again in August.

Oh and I don't listen to Avril Lavigne, Good Charlotte, BEP or Simple Plan anymore. I can't stand them.........

Well I was never concerned with any one style of music or even bands. I'd like a few songs by a band at most.

Looking back on it, I liked really stupid music. I also used to listen to Japanese music to...

Green Day was what really got me listening to certain bands and types of music.

Yeah, before Green Day I listened to a long list of crappy "artists"

Avril Lavigne (I used to think she was cool), Kelly Clarkson, Tiziano Ferro, The Rasmus, Maroon 5, Limp Biskit, and Linkin Park (sorry if you like them, just my opinion)

In english, ABBA and Hillary Duff. In spanish, La oreja de Van Gogh and Nino Bravo, mostly xD

But right before I got into Green Day I started listening to Simple Plan, I think, and to some songs by Tokio Hotel :ninja:

I never really listened to anyone  I used to love Avril Lavigne though.

S Club 7, Gareth Gates, Peter Andre, other awesome music like that..

I am bloody lucky I found Green Day  But I was only twelve so I suppose it was the right kinda music for me to have been listening to? Maybe? Although my nine year old sister only listens to Green Day now haha.

^^ Yeah, probably cheesy pop like that. I found Green Day pretty young, haha! I listened to a little bit of Eminem too, I think because a friend of mine loved him and I really looked up to her, being a typical little kid haha.

Well that was long ago, but I listened to the Ramones, Metallica, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, Bob Marley, AC/DC, all the 80's type rock I grew up listening to. Then for a little bit I was in to Brittany, Backstreet Boy's. Then the 90's rock and new rock NickelBack, Smash Mouth. Then Green Day, Blink and so on. I knew some Green Day songs in the 90's, but I didin't actually know them until I was about 12.

well Britney Spears was my idol when I was 8  also Eminem, Korn, Marilyn Manson, System of a Down lol which was considered "hard rock" back then, my freaked out, she would buy me all this Britney stuff to keep my mind off Marilyn Manson, who was like the devil back then

then warning came along, I got into punk and punk rock, but still listened to the other bands :)

cat empire...mgmt....thats all i remember.

i wasnt really passionate about any particular artist..

I didn't really have a favourite band or singer before Green Day. I listened to a lot of Hilary Duff and tried to listen to a lot of rap since that's what was "cool", although I never liked it. Then I found Green Day.

Amazing how much people change.

same here.

maybe its cause i lived partly in the country, didnt go many places cause there werent places to go, and our car had no radio.....but i didnt really listen to music much until about 12...and then I only got into green day at 13..very recently I know, but I dont think i knew of green day, or had the maturity or interest at age 10, when AI came out

I had such a bad taste in music .. :ninja:

I listened to every crap that way played on the radio

it's kinda embarrassing but my favorite singer was probably Britney Spears

but I have to say, that Green Day totally changed the way of how I listen to music. Before Green Day, music didn't mean anything to me - it was just entertainment I guess

I was obsessed with Linkin Park before Green Day. I still love them but Green Day took their place for my favorite band.

I used to listen to Simple Plan, Fall Out Boy, bands like that. And pop music like Backstreet Boys, Nsync, Britney Spears, etc. Then Green Day opened my eyes to rock music. Now I listen to pretty much Punk, Metal and Classic Rock

I just kind of listened to what my dad did, since I wanted to be like him at that point. Metallica (oh my fucking god I can't even stand them now), Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, Alice in Chains, and Nirvana. He played them, like, all the time. I still love Black Sabbath and Nirvana, too. I liked Eminem around then too. Only rap I ever really liked, and he's still the only rapper I love.

Then 2004 came around, and I was seeing Green Day and American Idiot everywhere, so I asked for the album. I got it, and fell in complete love with Green Day, and music in general. I then found MCR through Green Day, my third favorite band, and got Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge. Instant love, as well. And then it just branched from there and I found A7X through MCR (odd, I know, but I was listening to them on the radio, and Beast and the Harlot came on after that.) And I got City of Evil. A7X became my second favorite band. I have to thank Green Day for a lot, wow.

I'd rather not say who I listened to before Green Day. I had no taste in music at all. I'm glad that time is over forever.
