To me the other nominies are pretty strong too even if Green Day/U2 are my personal favorites. It'd be cool if they got it.

The grammy academy are pigs.

The Academy's rules clearly state that the 49th annual Grammys is for ''recordings released during the Eligibility Year Oct. 1, 2005 through September 30, 2006.''

so its ridiculous that grammy fledged the rules especially for this song.

There were a ton of other albums out after the time of september 30th 2006 that deserved a nomination.

they performed the song at the superdome before sept.30, and the song went on sale at Rhapsody.

I think that's why it counts.

Ehhhh, I wouldn't go that far. :/

Sure they're cool and all, but there are probably people who have worked harder, considering they've released ONE song, while the others have recorded whole albums.

I personally think that the Grammy Awards have become worse and worse over the years. Before, they used to be 'prestigious' and all that but, even though most people still take them as the most important and relevant music awards, I think they've come down, I mean, they've lost credibility, etc. Right now, they don't mean THAT much to me. For a start, there are many artists who end up winning awards when they definitely don't deserve them. There are many other artists out there who are much better than most of the nominees (at least in some categories). Secondly, artists tend to be nominated for categories they most surely don't belong to. And, of course, I find these awards are always (or almost) given to popular artists. It would be good to see some unknown artist (for most people) win an award at some point. I'm not saying the awards shouldn't be bestowed to popular artists, they should be given to those who really deserve them. I know this sort of statement sounds typical, but it's my point of view, and I'm not basing it on whether or not the artists I like are nominated (actually, some of them are). I understand not every single artist can be nominated, even if they deserve it, but still I feel like the nominees should vary a bit more.

Anyway, with all this I'm not saying anything against Green Day's nomination. I'm happy they've been nominated 'cause I like them and I like the actual song. And, even if I don't agree with the Grammy nominations, I will like to know who wins which Grammys. The fact that I don't like the way in which the Grammys are awarded doesn't stop me from getting informed about them, in that way (by getting informed) I can express my opinion in a more justified manner (I don't really try to know everything about them, only enough to state an opinion).

That's about it.

By the way, it would be great for Green Day to win the Grammy (although, I must say, it's true they may not deserve it as much as others, no matter how much we love them) as it's a way of acknowledging their work, but it's not the most important thing.

^well said :) I must say I agree with that the Grammy Awards are getting worse and worse. They're still very important of course, but I agree with you.

From: http://www.grammy.com/GRAMMY_Awards/News/D...ewsCategoryID=1

Green Day and U2 were nominated this morning with a grammy for the song "The Saints Are Comming" for the category Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal. They're up against:

Coldplay with "Talk"

the Fray for "How To Save A Life"

the Raconteurs for "Steady, As She Goes,"

Red Hot Chili Peppers for "Dani California"

great!! :woot:

Oh please let them win GD and u2 or RHCP. But I really hope the Saints are Coming wins because it raised money for helpless musicians that and i luv them and that song. :D

But the awards are for the song or artist that really made a difference in that category. Unknowns don't make a difference in the music world because they haven't hit it big in the music world. Although I don't like some of the artists who win.

^ I still think the same way. Making a difference in the music world should be based on the work done and its quality and, of course, the 'devotion' of the artists at their work, not only on how many people your music gets to reach. Hitting it big will obviously make a difference in the music world, but I find that the difference made by good music is at least as important (if not more) as reaching all those people. Anyways, the Grammys could be a great opportunity for those good unknown artists to come to light and become a little bit more known. If an unknown artist won a Grammy, then some people would want to know more about that certain artist. In this way, the Grammys could not only be a way of recognising an outstanding piece of work but could also help to propel those less known artists who deserve an opportunity or who haven't been as lucky as others even if they are as good as them. Then, the magnitude of that difference made in the music world would be even greater as there would be good music reaching more people.
