Well I got a shock when I told my old git punk partner about the song Green Day were doing with U2. He was raving about it - he had the album when he was at school apparently (he's 43 now) and it's a fantastic song. He even went as far to say that he was chuffed that they were doing it. Wonders will never cease. I think his Green Day hatred is starting to thaw........... maybe

I heard the song on youtube, wow, it'll kick ass. Definitely has a more Green Day sound than U2. Can't wait to hear it.

Wow, such authority from someone in their first post. Learn the ropes, then jump on your high horse.

Learn the ropes? This is a message board, not the Navy. Having more posts doesn't give you the right to be so patronising, particularly when the 'n00b' in question had a good point.

Oh my god. I think this sucks!! Bille and the rest of the band probably licks U2's ass. I guess I can forget Green Day to become less commercial in the future. Honestly, I think Green Day is ruining themselves. No matter how grown up they want to be, doing this this has nothing to do with being mature. They have ruined the best punk band on the planet. Green Day will never be Green Day anymore. SHIT!

I think that this demonstrates the best possible use of commercialism - what are probably the world's two biggest bands coming together, to max out what they can get for New Orleans, and the raising of consciousness about the whole issue.

I checked it out, and The Edge was the one who approached Green Day - he already has his own charity set up, and Green Day just said yes; I ask you, how shallow would they have to be to say no, because of image or whatnot?

I think it will rock, and I'm totally looking forward to it; if Green Day get some status from it, and U2 get to feel connected to a younger fanbase again, who cares? It's all good - and it's only rock and roll!

I'm really excited about this. although I'm not into U2 really I respect Bono for trying to make a difference in the world, making the US give money to aids in Africa, etc. It's great 2 huge rock bands can get together like this and do a song for charity despite the fact they are very different.

the song sounds awesome! by this time any new music from green day is good enough for me. :D

"The Saints Are Coming" is a good song, I'm sure they'll do a good cover of it - so long as Bono doesn't demand to sing almost the whole thing...

this is so great. U2 and Green Day are my two favorite bands of all time and I love them to death! And now they're going to record a song together. I can't believe it. as if that was not enough, the skids are so great too!

I'm overwhelmed

Well i don't like U2, but i remember when MCR did a cover of "Under Pressure" with The Used...I can't stand The Used but it really wasn't that bad. So maybe we should give it a chance?

Where's the rest of U2 and Green Day? It's not just Bono and Billie doing the song, is it? I read somewhere the recording would be done in London, wonder if that's where the pics are from?
