billiejoe3272 Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 Spoken like a true Irishman!Whoops, can't say that, can i?go way ya engerlish ********
Guest billy024 Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 as much as i like my irish heritage.i agree with Jay, for obvious reasons.green day are not punk, at all.they're alternative rock.they don't play complete punk, after they released insomniac, they weren't punk.they became alternative rock.i don't consider them pop-punk, because i see none or little pop influences.
Isabel Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 Green Day are definitely not punk. There's no need for any opinion there, they just aren't.
Jewels! Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 This is the best thread Andres has ever made. Green Day is undoubtedly pop music.
kvnie Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 Spoken like a true Irishman!Whoops, can't say that, can i?that hurts jay:mellow:your right though
NoVaCaInE! Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 ^well they sound like a very odd pop band then. I dont care what they are, theyre Green Day, and I like them
chickin'pickin' Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 ^^Ha, don't take that too seriously.I have an Irish background.
angie Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 Green day are punk. If you dont agree you can fuck off. hahaI agree with u
Trotsky Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 The issue with this debate is the people on the "ARE PUNK" side of things treat punk like it is the highest possible rank you can get in music. Like it's a divine title handed down to the most elite bands in the world from the gods of music. One could easily think that Green Day is punk and at the same time think Green Day and punk music in general sucks. The Casualties are punk, and they're quite a shitty band. They're so punk that they suck, they try way too hard. I would just label Green Day as "rock". It's a perfectly neutral word to describe a very debatable style. The only issue I have with Green Day right now is the same issue I have with Cradle of Filth - they try too hard with that fashion thing. Seeing Billie Joe in eyeliner is kind of lame, I doubt he wants to put it on, I feel like it's probably something Reprise pressures him to do. I don't know about anyone else, but if I were a rockstar on tour, I'd be happiest playing in cheap, old jeans, a random t-shirt, and unstyled natural hair.

annie Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 I would just label Green Day as "rock". It's a perfectly neutral word to describe a very debatable style. That's how I describe them. I mean what's the point of arguing over if they're punk or not? Whatever you label it as doesn't change the music. As far as I'm concerned, the word "punk" has lost all meaning now and I couldn't care less if a band is considered "punk", "pop-punk", "emo", whatever.
Fuzz Posted June 17, 2008 Author Posted June 17, 2008 i agree with that.for some reason i always felt green day didn't really wanna put all the make up and suits on.because if you look after american idiot (2 1/2 years after and on), the times they played in videos or were on tv they didn't wear that shit.Thats just showmanship. They wouldn't do it if they didn't want to.

I agree with what you said about them being Rock. I think of them more as a rock band than anything else.
Guest billy024 Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 Thats just showmanship. They wouldn't do it if they didn't want to.ah i hope so.alot of bands have their own "style" because an record company pressures them.i hope it was just their way of saying they hated corporate america.i spelled it right.
Supermodel*Robot Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 has anyone noticed the similarity between Green Days american idiot era "style" and the jonas brothers current style? Now that's punk, bitch.
Guest billy024 Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 has anyone noticed the similarity between Green Days american idiot era "style" and the jonas brothers current style? Now that's punk, bitch.there are many bands that copy Green Day.it's just disney's watered up version of Green Day.as stated several times before, punk has lost all meaning or concept.
kvnie Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 Thats just showmanship. They wouldn't do it if they didn't want to.I didnt like the outfits or make-up but i have to agree with andres they as themselves said"were trying to create a spectacle",like if you look at the videos of billie performing at reading04 and compare it to say BIAB he seems to have a bigger impact or something..
Supermodel*Robot Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 ^yeah. i think that he felt that this album had a real message he wanted to bring across and he was going to be as splashy as possible in order to be heard. I think he said it was like running a political campaign. The outfits were just another way of bringing together the whole thing. And Billie also said he was inspired by the clash to dress like that because sometimes a guy needs to "put away the hurley shirts and be a fucking man."
Guest billy024 Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 I didnt like the outfits or make-up but i have to agree with andres they as themselves said"were trying to create a spectacle",like if you look at the videos of billie performing at reading04 and compare it to say BIAB he seems to have a bigger impact or something..i saw Green Day preform when i was 7 years old during the Warning era.that was my first concert that i enjoyed, the band was amazing.compare that to the American Idiot tour, every concert was exactly the same.same antics, same lines, same song list.it really disappointed me, i just hope they don't do that for the new album tour.i enjoyed watching youtube and people coming up on stage and talking to the band, playing guitar, asking to play songs, etc.
Supermodel*Robot Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 ^i think that american idiot was just like that because for the first time they had an album with a message. Their previous albums were about simple things. Love, boredom, etc. American Idiot was the first time they wanted to teach their audience something. So obviously they decided they needed a different structure for their live show. I'm sure if they go back to writing about every day things, they'll go back to their old performances.
annie Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 compare that to the American Idiot tour, every concert was exactly the same.same antics, same lines, same song list.it really disappointed me, i just hope they don't do that for the new album tour.i enjoyed watching youtube and people coming up on stage and talking to the band, playing guitar, asking to play songs, etc.ugh, i know. it really disappointed me when i downloaded videos from concerts on the ai tour and EVERY SINGLE ONE was identical. even the shit billie said between songs was the same word for word! like he was a fucking robot.
Guest billy024 Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 ugh, i know. it really disappointed me when i downloaded videos from concerts on the ai tour and EVERY SINGLE ONE was identical. even the shit billie said between songs was the same word for word! like he was a fucking robot.yea.i look back and just envy those who got to see the band before it was a clone band.i am pretty sure, when i say that the next album's tour won't be like that.they were heavily criticized for playing the same shows and wearing the outfits.
