CoreyGregory Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 I Lost interest in them for like 3 years, but after going to Hartford the other night, I started listening and getting back into them!
anya. Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 at the age of 9, 10 I was obsessed with Green Day and I liked to be an outsider, as noone of my friends listened to them but than when I got a bit older as there was no new CD I lost interest a bit and I listened to other bands, my era of My Chemical Romance (>.<) and than Nightwish, Within Temptation.. than the new Green Day CD was announced and from then on I was back on the Green Day life, and I was waiting for the new album too much and then when it came out I was the happiest person on the entire planet and from the new CD on my Green Day obsession's just growing and I'm loving Green Day as I never have. If there was no Green Day I'd probably not survived and the fact that Green Day can make me happy anytime is the best thing in the world. Even if I haven't seen Green Day live (yet) I'm loving them and even if I had to wait for 20 years I could wait (maybe not, I'm too impatient maybe). GREEN DAY IS THE FUCKING BEST "MUSICTHING" THAT MAKES ME ENJOY MY LIFE (at least a little bit, hh).
Guest Shangri-La Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 i cant imagine. its been 12 years and i still love the crap out of them.
giygas...feels...good Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 I started to lose interest in the band because I really didn't like the fans...I disliked them so much!, but know I realized that maybe I was being too judgeful on them...
Metanoia Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 the fans CAN BE annoying thats true. some of them really.
Mommy's Little Nightmare Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 The thing about that is... for some people, Green Day was just a phase with them. They really loved them, and then they 'outgrew them.' At least, that's how I've heard it described. And then, for other people, Green Day is just what they were looking for. It's a band that they can not only enjoy the music, but relate to, be inspired by, look up to. I know that's how it is with me. And I almost feel like you can tell the difference between the fans who are just temporary, and the ones that won't grow out of them, or lose interest. I don't know why, but I just feel like you can tell. I was talking to my friend Shannon outside of the American Idiot Musical, and I think our conversation kind of summed it up. She was talking about how she's been into Green Day for a long time, and can't imagine herself growing out of them- or how different things would be if she'd never found them. She's older than me, she's been a fan for longer than me- but I could relate to every word she was saying. And I said my own piece. And her response was just "You get it. You totally get it." So either people get it, or they don't. You either really connect with the band, or you just enjoy their music for a time. There's nothing wrong with either option, but I feel like you just know who the people that will lose interest and grow out of them are because of that connection. I started to lose interest in the band because I really didn't like the fans...I disliked them so much!, but know I realized that maybe I was being too judgeful on them... Really? Part of the reason I love the band so much is because of the fans. I've met some fucking awesome people, and I've come to believe that Green Day fans are just generally awesome. I'm sure there are the annoying people, but for the most part- all the people I've met have been really great.

28smooth Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 ^^ Yep I agree. I used to be into all different kinds of bands in the last 15 years or so, but Green Day have always been there, sometimes in the background, yet they just kept popping up every now and again.... Obviously I've not been listening to them all the time (at the moment I am!) and there are/have been other bands that I love, but Green Day have been there all the way, that's why I think I'll never get tired or bored of them, their songs will always mean loads to me. Amen
Boston Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 the fans CAN BE annoying thats true. some of them really. The fans don't have anything to do with the band.
Holly Ann Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 I did for a while. But I can feel another ~obsession coming on.
Boston Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 I'm sure there are the annoying people, but for the most part- all the people I've met have been really great. You're lucky you haven't met the nasty, annoying fans yet. There was this one girl at the Mansfield show (she was from NY I believe... go figure) and she got onstage during One for the Razorbacks. My friend didn't make it but did end up getting up against the banister. Instead of accepting the because she got onstage she wouldn't be against the banister again like everyone else, she shoved him out of the way. It was flat out rude.

E!!i Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 I think I'll never lose my interest in them cause I love them too much
Dry_Ice Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 I do, at times, lose interest in the music. But not practically the band. It's strange. I don't mean to do it. It just happens. I don't listen to their music 24/7, that's for sure. I do listen to them often though. Maybe interest is the wrong word? I'm not quite sure. There's just Green Day dry spells, when I don't listen to their music for a long time. It's odd.
Pedestrian9394 Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 The only way I ever lose interest in a band is if I stop expecting anything from them. When I was really little, I LOVED Bon Jovi. But I own all their albums and I've seen them in concert twice. So, there's really nothing else that I want from them. I still listen to their music every now and then, but other than that, I really don't care. My favorite band is the Beatles. I own every song, but after a huge obsession, I realized that I can't afford to see Paul or Ringo in concert, and they're too untouchable to meet. I've lost hope in getting anything else out of the Beatles, even though I love them to death. I used to love AC/DC. But again, I have all of their albums and I've seen them in concert. Green Day is different though. Yes, I own every single Green Day song, plus the Network and FBHT. I've also seen them in concert. But Green Day is one of those bands that constantly has their fans wanting more. I want to see them in concert again because they vary their setlists, and I still want to get on stage. They are an ever-changing band, so I know their next album will be surprising and unique. They're still young and energetic, meaning I can expect them to be spontaneous, funny, and always entertaining. Put simply, Green Day is too interesting for me to lose interest. They have too much to offer and too much to expect from for me to look away, even for a moment.
FiaKels Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 Agree with above wholeheartedly. I also think it's because Green Day is a current band, and The Beatles are much older and more classic. It makes them more human, in a weird sense. And who knows why people can connect with some artists in such full and intense ways.

I can meet Green Day (if I'm lucky). I will never meet Paul McCartney. It took me a really long time to be comfortable with that. Haha. I guess it just really depends on where you are in life. But Green Day has changed and experimented so much, that I feel like there's always a Green Day song that I can relate to. It's kind of the same way with the Beatles. But like you said, Green Day is more current, and it certainly does make them more human.
Laura! Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 I kind of drifted away from them late 2006-early 2009, I began listening to other bands and as time went on I listened to Green Day less. But I found them again a couple months before 21CB was released. I loved the feeling of starting to listen to their stuff that I haven't listened to in forever. It felt awesome to fall in love with them all over again. It's been over a year since I found them again, and I don't think I'm ever going to drift that far away from them again. They just mean so much to me now.
Blood Sam and Booze Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 i think i am- they still definitely are probably my "favorite" (in a loose sense of the word) band, and i'll probably get their new album the day it comes out and become a huge fan all over again... but right now, this forum's pretty much the only reason i still think about green day. i still listen to their stuff, but not nearly as much as i used to... and i tend to find a lot of other bands that capture my interest in the meantime. like right now i'm into korn, with their new album and whatnot. plus i watched loaded korn videos on fuse last night and had "twisted transistor" stuck in my head all day You pretty much took the words right out of my mouth! I still claim Green Day as my favorite band, and I love them so dearly, but I've moved on to other obsessions as well. Granted, I will go buy their new album the day it comes out, just like I have been doing since I have became a fan a long while ago, but as of now...I've lost interest in their acts. I'm hoping for a good comeback since imo 21st Century Breakdown was a letdown... But also, Korn...you mentioned them ^...they put on an amazing show and the guys are very down to earth. I know that saying goes with many people and celebrities, but I have met one of their guitarist, Munky, and 'new' drummer, Ray, and no words can describe how thankful they are to their fans. I hope to meet Jon, my hero, and Fieldy. Head would be really awesome to meet and then I wouldn't mind meeting Wes either. But anyways, Korn is not just a last resort, but are a indescribable sound that are full of talent, and much appreciation. They give full dedication and passion into their art.
NowhereBound Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 I love Green Day, I mean I listen to them all the time. Although, sometimes, I get into "spurts" where I feel like I want to listen to a different artist. It's not because I get tired of them, because I never get tired of them...I guess it just depends on my mood at the time. But in no way do I think I ever lose interest in them...I just listen to different artists from time to time, which I consider to be normal.
-Billiejoezee- Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 7 years. And no way are those seven years of my love, money, and hard work for them are going to the trash.
Zalex Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 Green day themselves will always mean a lot to me and I will always love them but I'm not 14 anymore and I'm not obsessed with them like I used to be...I'm also starting to grow out of waiting for hours for their live shows, as much as I enjoy them mostly because of the fans who act like they are 16 and treat other people like shit. But I don't really mind losing that whole obsessive shit because I'm growing up and I have other bands I know personally I love just as much. But as I said I will never grow out of the band themselves
