Snorri Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 It's absolutely ridiculous that people have to tell me how much they think Green Day sucks when I tell them that's my favorite band But at the same time it's funny, because I remember when Boulevard of Broken Dreams was on the radio all the time and people would be like: "Okay, this is the only song I like by Green Day". Then WMUWSE was released and people had forgotten about BOBD and they were like: "Okay, this is the only song I like by Green Day". The same thing happened again and again with American Idiot, Jesus of Suburbia, Working Class Hero, 21 Guns etc. People just don't want to admit that they actually like Green Day because they want to fit it. I for one don't care what other people think of my taste in music. As long as I like it, I'm happy.
The Daughter of Rage and Love Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 This is from a few months ago: This guy in my class said that he liked Green Day, and everyone just started tearing him apart. They were all like,"Green Day is a terrible band, they're a bunch of sell outs. They're not even trying anymore! Blink 182 is totally the best band ever!!!" Then one of the haters who had just said that GD blows goes on to say that Nimrod/Dookie is a pretty solid album. And then the rest of the sheep agreed with her. This went on for 15 minutes. Ugh! Why would you say that you think Green Day totally blows and then go on to say that you actually liked some of their albums? Fucking idiots. I just sat there and kept my mouth shut. I could've easily corrected them on all of the false assumption that they had made about GD, but...nah. That felt good!
Billie Kristy Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 People don't really bash me for liking Green Day. That's mainly because everybody doesn't bash me in general. I met some friends because of Green Day, tho My best friend's a huge Green Day fan ^_^
Morgaine Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 I've never been bashed for liking Green Day, seriously. I was always proud to say that they're my favourite band and nobody has ever told me they suck or anything like that. Only one of my friends, Ada, says Green Day are sellouts and laughs at me for listening to them. But we're close friends and love teasing each other, so I'm okay with that
Tom Higgs Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 To be honest people have never taken the piss out of me for being a fan or criticised me in any way, they just say stuff like "oh they're crap!" I find certain people's reactions pretty funny when I tell them I'm into Green Day whilst also being quite a big fan of the more extreme stuff like Cradle of Filth, Slayer and even stuff like Behemoth and Napalm Death. They often say stuff like "how come you're into Green Day when you're into <extreme band>?" Ha! But seriously though, I reckon it's good for your mind to listen to as many types of music as possible. Makes you look broad minded too! If someone takes the piss out of someone for their taste in music then they clearly fail at life and either are bereft of any understanding or are completely missing the point of music. OK I used to do this myself but I've learned that there's no point. What is "normal music" anyway?

OK I used to do this myself but I've learned that there's no point. What is "normal music" anyway? "Normal music" is relative, i reckon... Btw: Napalm Death is totally OK. Sometimes i think it's strange to listen to them (and bands like they) and Green Day at the same time, but i don't make fuss about it now.
VivaLaRosalee Posted July 3, 2010 Posted July 3, 2010 ehh, i'll wear a GD t shirt and i have a GD backpack and these 3 guys always tell me they suck and imitate Billie mike and tre by trying to be emo and retarded. its funny because they look like idiots and people dont realize who they're trying to imitate. the funniest thing is, they have a band and they try to be very punk, but they wrote a song called "last night on earth" and they haven't realized that it's a green day song. they thing its an original song they wrote, so im waiting for the perfect time to tell them that green day wrote a song called last night on earth too. also, the lead singer of theyre band dresses just like bille, and hes doesnt know XD
madddie Posted July 3, 2010 Posted July 3, 2010 I get constant shit for being "obbsessed" with Green Day. Not many people I know like them. I've got the same shit for the last 6 years, but I still don't care, I don't care how many times people say "why do you like Green Day, they're shit". I just don't get why my life is anyone else business.
Emilie Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 Thing is, just because you automatically equate "emo" to "bad," that doesn't mean everybody else does. He could have meant it as a compliment for all you know. It...would be a very strange compliment, but still. True. I have a friend who told me she thought Billie Joe was emo, but she also said that's the reason she likes him so much. As for getting picked on, that doesn't really happen to me. But then again I don't own any GD clothes, so people can't beat me up for wearing any. Most of my friends like GD too, except for one friend who's into Justin Bieber
Eighty. Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 I have this kind of situation almost everyday i go to the city, people who I know by sight or less they are skaters and they are SO punks and they listen such a good and not sell out music.. when I go walking on the street they always say "Billie Joe rules" or "Green Day are the best" but it's an irony, I mean they say it and then they start to laugh, when they act like this it seems that Green Day is down in the dumps, and I fucking hate it and those fucking idiots, they dont have any idea of what's green day. Nowadays I dont give a shit, i dont really care, when they say it, I act like "hell yeah you motherfucker!
EffigyQueen Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 Oh my god, this is very odd thing. I listen to Green Day for more than 5 years, so all my friends know that I absolutely LOVE their music. And that's alright. No one says anything abouy that. Sometimes it happens that I "make" them listen to Green Day But other people who don’t know me well or at all, they’re saying things. Usually they think that they listen to the only one RIGHT kind of music, like hard rock, heavy metal or whatever. And it makes them think that I cannot say anything about their taste music. So they call Green Day „Green Gay” (very creative, isn’t it?) and things like that. They also tell me and my Green Day Friends that they have no respect for us, because we listen to GD. But it doesn’t look like this always. When I wear my Green Day t-shirt in school some guys are smiling to me or saying „hello” even if I don’t know them. That’s very nice. And when I was shopping some lady about 50 years old told me that she absolutely loves my t-shirt. And of course when I meet someone new who listen to Green Day we becoming friends so fast that it seems a liitle bit strange . I must say that I like al most everyone who listen to Green Day. And usually this not because they do listen to GD, I just like their character
Holly Ann Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 I have Green Day written like all over everything including my school planner. This one dude was like 'Green day? Green Day? why Green Day?' I was like 'cause. Shut up. I also get stared at when I wear GD merch. Generally, I get bashed for the music I like; because of the area I live in.
Pedestrian9394 Posted July 6, 2010 Posted July 6, 2010 The thing about being bashed for liking Green Day is that nobody ever has any good reason for not liking them. It's always like, "Ummm, they're like, gay and stuff." Oh really? With their wives and kids? Lmao. I don't know. As far as I'm concerned, I feel bad for people who don't like them, or at least take the time to give them a shot. Nobody is ever going to agree perfectly with my taste in music, so the only time it would ever bother me is if they just started making up random insults just to get on my nerves. that's just annoying.
poisonoak Posted July 6, 2010 Posted July 6, 2010 went to a cd shop with a friend, when we got to "G", she said :" look your green day os buy one get one free" in a really insulting tone
Storer Posted July 6, 2010 Posted July 6, 2010 I'm past caring these days. If someone would like a proper conversation about my interest in Green Day then that's cool, regardless of their opinion. However if I hear "GREEN DAY SUCK" etc then whatever, it's their problem, not mine

21st century idiot Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 I get bashed all the time, half the time they come back with well ICP is better Or Metallica rules! LAME comebacks
mandajane Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 yeah..... when i was at gilman for the pinhead show back in February i was wearing a green day shirt and some guy there who i could tell was like a regular and i think volunteers there too gave me a weird look when he saw my shirt... so fucking dumb. i didnt even say anything.
Sheehan Rysa Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 I get bashed all the time, half the time they come back with well ICP is better Or Metallica rules! LAME comebacks Hahaha exactly !
uhleckseee Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 I went to a very ghetto-ish high school, where no one listened to rock let ALONE Green Day. I was practically infamous for being a Green Day fan. This was around the time, mind you, that BOBD came out and was extremely overplayed, so either people loved the band or hated them with a passion because of that song (at least from my perspective). CONSTANTLY being bashed for liking a "gay" band, who's members wear eyeliner like "fags". I didn't know what music was, apparently. I would go to extreme lengths to let people know I liked them, I wanted to rebel that much. Nowadays, my love for the band has toned down in terms of making it known to the WORLD, but up in the fact that I'm being introduced to new music and thus having a new appreciation for their music. I've decided through all the shit I've gone through with this band that they will always hold a place in my heart (and on my body with my tattoo). People liking them is not a must for me. Hell, I don't care if even my boyfriend likes them, just have some god damn respect for who I am, what I like, and understand that I have my REASONS for liking this band....and everything's okay.
Undómiel Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 Today, the girl I sit next to in history had a go. I let her for a while. And then we had an argument about it. Fun times. Then she compared them to slipknot. at this point I gave up hope...
Margo 39 smooth Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 Why does everyone call Green day emo? out of all bands? Whatever. you guys really shouldnt let ignorant people get to you, by complaining or responding it just shows that you care what they think when you shouldnt. but hey, if you care what people think, argue away with people as dumb enough to call Green day an emo band.

Disclaimer: I'm just going to look at another point of view here. Emo music, when it was popular a couple years ago, did have those sort of "hopeless" feelings to it. I can honestly see WHY people can classify some of GD's music to "emo", but I don't agree with it. Some of the artwork for the American Idiot album could easily be classified as emo (see: heart in a mousetrap, for example). To me, I was confused that Green Day would actually go with that route in their album artwork. I'm not a big fan of it, but I can see how others who don't listen or care for the music can classify it as "emo". the word though, I don't agree with at all, so don't even get me started on that one
Mar Posted July 8, 2010 Posted July 8, 2010 You know what bothers me? I know a few people who have "outgrown" Green Day post AI, and then they judge me because I discovered them via AI, and I love them because of it. Even though I know more of their music than that album, they judge me because I listen to that CD, which to them, marked the ~end~ of Green Day.
