poisonoak Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 no ones ever gave me a hard time for liking them but none of the people i know likes them either, its strange that there are so many people on the forum and on these gd groups, that no one i know in real life likes them
St.Gloria8 Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 I get made fun of all the time at school for loving green day
ColetteCool Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 There's this asshole who goes to my school, Mickey, and he listens to bands like Cannibal Corpse and Slayer and stuff. At the end of the year he asked me to sign his Yearbook and I said "No way, Mickey, you're mean to me." and he said "I'm mean because I don't like Green Day?" and I told him "You're mean because you call them gay." I hate explaining to everyone all the time that Billie Joe is married, y'know, it's really tedious. Can they not see the ring right on his finger? Chances are if you know someone who goes on about how much they hate Green Day on a regular basis, they actually don't. They're just saying it because a couple of their friends are or because they're your favourite band or because they dislike the band's image. When I went to see Green Day with my best friend last year, my friend Jake posted on my Facebook; "I can't believe you went to see Green Day. They're more choreographed than most boybands." He's never seen the band live and listens to overly pretentious music which made him say something like that, oh and the fact he likes winding me up. The people who mock you and belittle you for liking Green Day will eventually give in, mature a little and realise people are entitled to their own opinions. Hell, I don't criticise other people's music taste whether I hate it or not because it's what THEY like and as terrible as it may be it probably means something to them even if it's incredibly shallow. I think some Green Day fans can be off putting as well. No offense to anyone here at all but there are alot of fans who are teenage girls and swoon at even the sight of Billie Joe. This doesn't effect the music but in other people's eyes it may make them embarrassed to be a fan. I'm a 20 year old guy and I wear a Green Day shirt with pride but I can't imagine many others doing that. I'm just as bad though, I won't touch the Twilight Saga with a barge pole because of the tweenage fan girls. I s'pose I can't stop ever liking Green Day though because I was a fan before American Idiot emerged which was kind of pre-teenage fan girl explosion. I'm a teenage girl and I totally agree with you. Most of my friends won't listen to Green Day because they're put off by how many teenage girls like them. They compare the band to Justin Bieber because of how many girls like them.
LinziLetterbomb Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 I got threatened once, i was wearing my Green Day t shirt and i was walking along and this chav starts sarcastically singing American Idiot at me, and he was like "Green Day Fucking Suck ya mosher!" so i ignored him and he was like "i'm gonna come and kick ya head in" but i just kept on walking so he left me alone! it was quite scary but quite a few of the people who live around by me are the same so i'm used to it!
Doris The Spider Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 Sometimes I think that people think it's immature that I like Green Day, but I don't care. I love them. I wear my Green Day merchandise proudly. When people talk shit about them I try to ignore it but it is hard sometimes. But I don't hear people say that much so it's ok.
iwroteholdencaulfield! Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 well al my friends bash me about it and say "ohhh it's that gay guy's band right??" or say "they're a bunch of pussies" and i'm say "weel BJ's bisexual and everyone has a different mind of their own so SHUT THE HELL UP!"
Carnation Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 Right when I saw the topic name it reminded me of this one kid at school in my grade who started bashing Green Day because one of my friends started singing one of their songs in the midst of class. I just think it's hilarious because he started saying shit like, "If I ever saw Billie Joe I would beat him up blah blah blah", and, really, like he ever could. But, anyway, I just put up with it. I mean, as other people had said, it's our music; we can listen to them if we want. Though people have the right to express their opinion, bashing GD because who they are makes them uncomfortable, well, they can just shut the hell up and grow up.
dawn71 Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 I am sick and fucking tired of all the haters/bashers that I have seen at others sites/pages that are intended for Green Day fans. They feel the need to come and shit all over pages that are there for Green Day and their fans. Why do they feel the need to do that? It makes my blood boil when I see that. We don't go search out their sites/pages and shit all over them. They never even have anything original to say either. It's usually the same old shit that's been said before by other dumb asses. I just don't understand why they feel the need to do that. It's not like we are going to stop liking Green Day because of what they say. I am sick and tired of hearing the sell-outs word! Green Day isn't a sale out!! There are several punk bands that signed to major labels before Green Day did, any they never caught as much of a shit storm as Green Day has. The Clash (signed to CBS), The Sex Pistols (signed to EMI), Social Distortion (signed to Epic), and I could go on. Green Day has to work for a living just like the rest of us. If you weren't born with a silver spoon in your mouth you have to work for a living in this world if you want to survive, but if you love what you do it will never feel like work. Fortunately, for Green Day they have special talents that most of us do not possess. They were able to do what they loved and were able to make that their work. You can call it what ever you want but its still work and Green Day is one of the hardest working bands in the world. I really don't know that many bands that wouldn't have signed when made an offer like Green Day got. They got to play their music their way. If anyone would have came to them to sign with a major label but the condition would be that they had to do it the major labels way, Green Day would have told them in no uncertain terms to go to hell. Actually they did basically that many times when they were approached by several other major labels before they signed with Reprise. Green Day wanted to get their music out there for the whole world to hear. It has always been about the music to them. If it was about the money they could have quit a long time ago. Because I am sure they have enough money to live more than comfortably for the rest of their lives if money was all it was. I also hate when bashers say that Green Day isn't the same band as they were before the "Dookie Era". They are the same band they have always been! All of Green Day's music has their unmistakable sound. When I listen to their earlier work and their most recent work and I know in a heartbeat that it was the same band. The topics may have changed but that unmistakeable Green Day sound has remained the same. When they were in their late teen and twenties they sang about girls, masturbation, tell your parents and other authority figures to screw off and go to hell, and other topics that affected them at that time. As they grew topics started to slowly changed as they were affected by everything going on in their life by the people, situations, and with society as whole. So, that's what they sing about. They sing about what they know, how they feel, and what they think. They have stuck together over 2 decades, way longer than most bands have. Its the music that that keeps them together and Its bigger than any one person. It's always been about the music with Green Day. I have been a huge fan of Green Day since a high school friend of mine played me the vinyl of 39 Smooth. Finally, music I could understand that understood me. I am so grateful Green Day did sign to a major label because then I had easier access to their music and it was out there for everyone to enjoy. What a waste it would have been if a rare talent like Green Day's had not been put out there for the whole world to hear. Also I am tired of the bashers/haters saying Green Day isn't punk anymore. That is such total bullshit. Green Day is the very definition of the word punk. They did what they wanted to do no matter what others said or what others thought about it. Green Day has always done their music their way. They didn't do what was expected of them. They have always thought outside the box and they don't allow anything or anyone box them in. They let the music lead them and not what other people say or think. In other words they do what they want to do when they want to do it and they don't give a fuck what others think about it. That was their attitude when they first started and that attitude has never changed. I say to all the Green Day bashers " fuck off you fucking haters"...
ProstheticHeads Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 My friends don't really care, although a few say they're emo...wtf?
BIBARAGURORIA Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 Holy shit, wall o' text. Why do people go on Green Day fansites and bash GD? For the lulz. It's as simple as that. There's no big conspiracy, they just do it for kicks. The more you pay attention to them, the more you fuel the fire.
Velocity Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 People who do that for the lulz can't possibly have a life though. Really. There are some bands I really don't like and I'd never go on fansites/last.fm pages/etc just to bash them. It's a lame attempt to get people to pay attention to them. If you have some honest, thoughtful criticism, fine. But if you're just typing stuff like "Gay Day" or "Green Gay" then you need to gtfo.
BIBARAGURORIA Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 People who do that for the lulz can't possibly have a life though. I never said they had a life.
AfterShock Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 MASSIVE WALL OF TEXT Woah. That was actually pretty cool. My friends don't really care, although a few say they're emo...wtf? I've heard that sooooo many times...it pisses me off
BIBARAGURORIA Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 It doesn't really bother me when people bash Green Day anymore. I mean, I bash plenty of things that I hate, why shouldn't they be allowed to? Though I don't go on fansites and troll...I mean, I used to, but that was so long ago. Live and let live.

Though I don't go on fansites and troll...I mean, I used to, but that was so long ago. Live and let live. What a great point of view on the subject. I'll definitely keep this in mind the next time I see people bashing things I love. I mean, I usually don't mind, but the reasons some people give are ridiculous. I've never really experienced Green Day bashing in everyday conversation, though. One of my friends sort of does it jokingly (or maybe not) but I don't really care because she's into Disney channel stars xD So, we basically go back and forth with the play-bashing.
Sheehan Rysa Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 The first time I started wearing Green Day tees, ppl used to think im "gothic" . . But now I just laugh at them Whenever ppl tell me they don't like Green Day, or say something stupid like "they cant play" or "they cant sing" I tell them, "Well, why don't you show me how you play and sing, and then we'll see how 'bad' Green Day really is." Thats when they just shut up.

How do you react to people who politely tell you that they don't like Green Day? I'm honestly curious.

theclassof13 Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 i get a lot of shit from people about my love of Green Day, but i certainly don't take any of it and i don't let it effect me. And if they give you the bash, bash them back, harder!!! :eyebrow:

JordayC13 Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 Guuys....... Have you not been reading Andres' comments. if someone gets up you for liking Green Day, do what Billie Joe, Mike or Tre would do, give em' the middle finger.

Mommy's Little Nightmare Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 I used to get this all the time, but for the most part- I don't any more. My friend Ethan likes to randomly come up to me and be all "Green Day sucks, you know." and I giggle because he says 'you know.' I think the worst I've gotten was the last time I went to see the American Idiot Musical. About 5 people randomly stopped to tell me that Green Day were sell-outs. I didn't care at first, and then it got irritating.
mr.martini Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 I've experienced that...I have a Green Day patch on my jacket and people in my class used to tell me how stupid I was to do that and how stupid GD were. They probably think they#re jsut mainstream shit and wannabe-punks, and that#s what bothers me so much, that they think that. I love Green day for everything they do and because theyr music means so much to me and has helped me a lot. So don't let the bastards grind you down!
