Green Day Haters / people bashing you for being a Green Day fan?

I get it sometimes... It's mostly people teasing me about being too obsessed with them. Because my favourite jacket is a Green Day jacket and I've got quite a bit of merch. And sometimes I can't help bringing up the band when something reminds me of them.

I've had a lot of people tell me "Oh they suck..." or they're not talented or blah blah blah and try to shrug it off. I did punch a guy that took it too far once though....

I thought it was amusing when my mom thought it was a phase I was going through when I was 10. Here I am nearly 9 years later and a lot worse. XDD

Is it just me or is it always the people who claim to not care about a bands image that always get their knickers in a twist 'cause Green Day dress quite differently than they used to?

What annoys me is when people say "Yeah, I used to like Green Day.....uhhhh, when I was 15!" Practically everyone in work thinks a 22 year old loving Green Day is the lamest thing in the world. We're allowed play our own music over the PA most of the time and whenever I make mix CDs with 2 or 3 GD songs on them, the lads always take them out of the CD player because "Green Day are so shit!" Primarily because they wear eye-liner. Other than that, I can't think of a single time when any of them came up with some half witted explanation as to why they're so allegedly shit.

Ahh. It's hell where I live. Pretty much EVERYONE is a chav besides like 2 of my friends and my family. I hate it; they listen to meaningless crap all day because they're too dumb to find any original music. I could go on all day xD

Lately, a couple of my friends in my science class have been trying to cover up the Green Day drawings I put on my binder with Suicide Silence...

A band I don't even listen to. And they said that Suicide Silence was so much better than Green Day...

I almost got kind of violent with my friend Logan. He kept saying they sucked, and I just glared at him, "You really think I care?" Too bad it sounded like I cared, because I was so pissed off.

Every time I see someone with a Green Day shirt I always try to say hey I love your shirt or something like that. Like yesterday we went to the fair and my sister saw some kid seating down while we were getting on a ride and she pointed at his shirt and gave him a thumbs up. Then some kid walked by me and I said hey kid your shirt is awesome!!! I also get some comments some times like eww you like Green Day they suck so bad.

My boyfriend and his best friend tease me about loving Green Day, which is odd, considering my boyfriend likes them and went to a green day gig with me. I think it's just people wanting to "fit in" and be "popular" that take the piss. IMO.

I don't get a lot of shit for being a Green Day fan but I do whenever I bring it up. Everybody in my class, except two people, think they're too pop. Those two guys just like a couple of their songs but they don't want to play them with me the other members of my band don't take my Green Day suggestions seriously any more.

Most of my school friends think that because I have perfect pitch, Green Day is not good enough for me? I mean, WTF?!

Chances are if you know someone who goes on about how much they hate Green Day on a regular basis, they actually don't. They're just saying it because a couple of their friends are or because they're your favourite band or because they dislike the band's image. When I went to see Green Day with my best friend last year, my friend Jake posted on my Facebook; "I can't believe you went to see Green Day. They're more choreographed than most boybands." He's never seen the band live and listens to overly pretentious music which made him say something like that, oh and the fact he likes winding me up. The people who mock you and belittle you for liking Green Day will eventually give in, mature a little and realise people are entitled to their own opinions. Hell, I don't criticise other people's music taste whether I hate it or not because it's what THEY like and as terrible as it may be it probably means something to them even if it's incredibly shallow.

I think some Green Day fans can be off putting as well. No offense to anyone here at all but there are alot of fans who are teenage girls and swoon at even the sight of Billie Joe. This doesn't effect the music but in other people's eyes it may make them embarrassed to be a fan. I'm a 20 year old guy and I wear a Green Day shirt with pride but I can't imagine many others doing that. I'm just as bad though, I won't touch the Twilight Saga with a barge pole because of the tweenage fan girls. I s'pose I can't stop ever liking Green Day though because I was a fan before American Idiot emerged which was kind of pre-teenage fan girl explosion.
