Just recently made friends with some guys from the year above me, and they discovered I am a pretty obsessive fan Anyway, they are some of those guys who are in a band themselves and like all non mainstream music and think Green Day suck basically. I've spent the day being told Green Day are a band with no musical merit who pretend to care about politics in order to sell records. They also said that because I've loved Green Day since I was elevenish, I'm one of those teenie fans who decides when they go to secondary school that they want to be all alternative and Green Day are the first band I stumbled across and so thats the only reason I love them. Man, I just wanted to smack them! Well, I did a few times. God, it just gets me so worked up!! :verymad:It really sucks to be said things like that about the band you like. I've come to a conclusion that you'd better not show that you an obsessive fan to people who are not capable of understanding you and sharing your feelings. However, it is all very well to say. I can't help showing my love and appreciation of Green Day wherever I am, and the people I mix with seem to be really tired of my talking about Green Day, but I simply can't help doing it, although I probably should try keeping it more to myself and to those who can understand me.
Michael128 Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 I don't know if anyone else feels this way, but ever since I saw them back in July, I've sort of been depressed about my life because I'm like "I'll never be as awesome or as accomplished as these guys" so whenever someone bashes or criticizes them, it kind of makes me feel better because I realize that they aren't perfect.Except when people bash them stupidly. Like when they say that their performance at an awards show was boring and then go on to say that rihanna was the best performance of the night, then yeah, that bugs me.

In the UK we get kids who only listen to Hip-Hop and R&B and pick on the kids who listen to rock, but I've never seen any hate directed specifically at Green Day. In the UK you're more likely to be laughed at for listening to Britney Spears than for listening to Green Day.This is true. Out of a group of about 15 people who are in my close group of friends (that excludes online friends), only me and 3 others like them (2 of which are members here hah) the rest either are indifferent to them, like some songs but not huge fans or don't like them at all but don't direct hate towards me about it. They are more mature than to pick on me for being a fan. Cause they know I can do the same with the bands that they like. Its all subjective and down to taste. I don't give a fuck if they like them or not. I do, and thats all that matters.The only person that makes me laugh is my friend Jules who thinks they are "overrated and boring" and yet has just told me she's bought an Adam Lambert CD. Enough said.

He makes fun of me for loving them as much as I do.Most people I know who are rude to me because of my taste in music have only listened to the hits from American Idiot, which seriously bothers me. They don't even know what they're talking about.

She loves Fall Out Boy, The Cab, Paramore, stuff like that. And I love Green Day (that's a given). I realize it's not exactly the same but it's not like she loves rap and I love rock - it all falls under the punk-pop-rock mix. And yet she INTENTIONALLY goes after Green Day as if to hurt my feelings. One day she was like "Yeah, I think they should just be done. They've outworn their welcome by like 10 years and they should really just stop. They're not popular anymore."This friend and I have been friends since first grade and never have I wanted to smack that smug look off her face as badly as I wanted to then. To me, when you're complaining a band should stop because they're "not popular", you don't know a damn thing about music, you just know about trends. And really, does she think Fall Out Boy is full of musical geniuses that really think outside the box? Are you fucking kidding me? She acts as though her music is so much better than what I listen to.What I can't help but let get to me sometimes is that these people who aren't Green Day fans but feel the need to bash them - they have no idea what the guys are like. They don't know how amazing they are to their fans. They don't know how incredibly hard they work, how they make music until it's exactly how they want it (and still want to perfect it more ). They don't know that on top of being incredible artists and performers, they are just really nice guys who have families, that they are people who have progressed in their music but respect where they came from so much. People who don't love the band don't know that. And they never will. And to be honest, if a person is that much of an ass that they feel the need to put down a band that means SO MUCH to their friend - they don't deserve to know a thing about Green Day, because the guys are too amazing for that.

It actually shows how thick their heads more than anything else. As if the majority of GD fans, or anybody for that matter, should stop liking something because it's no longer a trend. I listen to music in general because I either really like it or I can relate to it, or both. I'm pretty sure that applies to alot of other music fans in general. So the whole 'they were so 3/5 years ago' is irrelevant.Oh and I will never understand people calling them gay.
