Or, in simplest terms: because Abercrombie & Fitch said it was only cool to like this or hate that. A&F brainwashes people, but it hasn't worked on me. It's just ruined my life though, i'm alienated at school for not following trends. Abercrombie & Fitch is Hitler with trends. Hollister is Fidel Castro. Aeropostle is Che fucking Guevara.

If Abercrombie and Fitch said it was uncool to breathe, almost everyone in my school would be dead. I'd be standing there on the side, laughing my ass off at the schmucks who jumped on the bandwagon.

If you started singing Ha Ha You're Dead as well, then I would consider that an epic win. :D

Kerrang - Yeah, that's a good example. Same with people who like a baseball team because they win all the time or a show because "everyone else watches it". It's like this everywhere with kids, teens, and adults. I've never been one to try and "fit in", though. I don't go out of my way NOT to fit in, either. I do what I do and like what I like, and if it's "in", then fine, if not, that's fine too.

I have friends whose favorite bands change like they change their outfit. What I was saying is that I really stick with the things that are important to me (i.e. Green Day) for a very long time. It's nearly impossible to get me to detach from my "favorite things". :D

Me too! haha.

I just don't listen to people who tell me they don't like Green Day or whatever. I just tell them I love GD and don't care what they think.

What makes me mad is when kids I know say GD sold out. Being popular is NOT equal to selling out! ugh.

Goddamn, I'm glad I go to a art school for freaks and weirdos. One guy I know likes The Allman Brothers and Metallica. And everyone I know loves the Beatles. (Trends? We don't need no sticking trends!)

Although one guy I go to school recently called Green Day old and tired. :pinch: I was like, "Yeah, I'm just going to ignore that, k?"

Here in Greece I have met many idiots who criticized me just cause I am listening to GD.I DON'T CARE.I SHOW THEM THE MIDDLE FINGER AND NOTHING ELSE.... :D

I'm very loyal to all of the things I consider to be "my favorite". My favorite shows, favorite movies, favorite band - it's not something that changes often if at all. So to the people who tell me that Green Day "isn't popular anymore" or is "an old band" or "not 'in' anymore" - LOL, who gives a crap? It's not my problem if the rest of the world has a shitty attention span. I love what I love and I'll be loyal to the things I love forever. Green Day isn't a fad for me. I don't care if they sold 2 million copies or 2 copies - they're my guys.

Well said. Sometimes I get crap from people who think I listen to and watch old stuff just to make myself edgy and they'll say stuff like, "Just because it's old doesn't mean it's good." My response is always, "You're right. And just because something is new doesn't mean it's better." It doesn't matter to me if something is brand new or 100 years old, if it's the most popular thing in the world or 5 people like it. If it's good, I will listen to/watch it and I don't give a damn what anyone else thinks of it.

Again, I completely agree. Once I get into something, I really get into it and it sort of becomes part of who I am. Even a lot of stuff I loved as a kid I still have a great fondness for. E.T. was my favorite movie when I was about 3 or 4 years old and it's still my favorite. I got into Green Day when I was in fourth grade and I still love them. It's not like I hold onto these things just for nostalgia reasons, I really do still enjoy them.

I've been the laughing stock for it, but they always choose the word gay. And frankly, I don't mind being gay. I always used to associate it with fucking sunshine in the background.

Haha - I'm the same way with Star Wars like you are with E.T.! I'm forever a fan. :D

I am usually a bit taken aback by the amount of people who feel the need to say "I hate Green Day!" when I'm wearing a Green Day shirt. I just would never, ever do that even to someone I DO know, let alone some stranger. When I see a girl walk past me with a Jonas Brothers shirt on I'm not like "THEY SUCK!". I just think it to myself.

I've never really cared much what other peoples' taste in music is. My best friend and I have very different musical tastes, but I respect what she likes and she respects what I like. It's not a big deal. I don't know why so many people make it such a big deal.

I mean, for a person who knows how heavily Green Day has impacted my life, they SHOULD think it's a big deal, you know, what kind of music I like, but for a stranger who just sees me in a Green Day shirt? LOL, they haven't a clue how much they mean to me.

Totally agree with you.

I can't remember when things weren't like that. Where I live, everything is determined by what's popular/"in". Green Day isn't too popular where I live. Therefore, people think it's cool to mock GD. It's annoying, but what can you do? :/

This... Where I live, noone listens to music... I mean, they listen to reggeaton and crap like that, but nothing real. There's a couple of people who'd listen to paramore or tokio hotel or the hermanos brothers (aka jonas brothers xd), and then... there we are: All the freaking outsiders who listens to metal or, in my case, Green Day. It's kind of funny 'cause all my friends likes metal and are trying to make me one of them, but it hasn't work. And the rest of the world... Well, BULLYING ¬¬

I was walking down the street yesterday wearing a GD tshirt and some chav on a bike yelled "emo" at me. First time i've had abuse yelled at me in the street for a while.

I used to get shit all the time, not necessarily for liking Green Day, but for supposedly being "emo". They even threw rocks at us in the street

My friends bash me for liking Green Day, mostly just to get a reaction. Now I just shrug and say "You either get it or you don't." No one I know in real life understands how much this band means to me, and I don't think they ever will. You've just gotta like what you like, do what you want and fuck everyone else. Green Day mean more to me than anything, so fuck everyone trying to convince me otherwise.

Same here. ppl dont know what green day means to me. i mean like if green day didnt come around for me then i wouldnt be here right now man. i would be on the streets acting all gangish and stuff. being punk is the way to go.

I've come to realize that Green Day fans just get it. We totally can relate to each other when we say "They changed my life" or "They made me who I am". We get it when people come back from a concert and go "That was the best night of my life". We understand how vital the band is in all of our lives. Other people just - don't. And they never could, I don't think. You have to appreciate the band (for more than just their music, I might add, but the actual guys as well) to really get why they're so special and have so profoundly touched our lives.

100% to that! Green Day Fans Do Get It. PERIOD

^ When I try to explain that kind of thing to my friends, they think I'm just being overly dramatic. It's nice to be able to come on here and not have people laugh at you but actually understand and agree with you when you say "They are the most important thing in my life." :)

Yes. This is exactly how I feel, you put into words perfectly. I just feel so accepted when I'm talking to other Green Day fans about what and who we love the most. My family and most of my friends just humor me, but when I'm talking to my one RL friend about Green Day... it just clicks.

^The world of Green Day was the first place where I felt like people actually get me. It's the first place I've really felt like "Okay, I can relax. I've finally found somewhere I belong."

You can say "I love Green Day" to as many different people as you want, but Green Day fans are the only ones who understand that when you say that you literally mean that you love them. Genuinely. It's not just making a general comment. You really do love them wholeheartedly.

all green day fans call green day there home. this is were the fans feel comfortable and forever it will be.

Amen To That

So true, Green Day fans just get it. Here's an actual conversation I've had when I've worn a Green Day shirt:

Other Kid: You like Green Day?

Me: Yep

Other Kid: All their songs suck

Me: You've listened to all of their songs?

Other kid: Well...no...but the ones I've heard sucked!

Me: Alright, then

Then that same day, in the gym locker room.

Other Other Kid: You like Green Day?

Me: Yes

Other Other Kid: Green Day's a little bitch!

It always starts with "You like Green Day?". Why would I be wearing a Green Day shirt?

Anyways, it's annoying. No big deal though.

People make the most idiotic comments whenever I wear a shirt with any kind of graphic on it. Whenever I wear a GD shirt and someone goes "Oh, you like Green Day?" I'm so tempted to respond "No, can't stand them, I spent $20 on this shirt for the heck of it."

"No, I'm just wearing this to be ironic. I'm a hipster, I hate everything."

Shit-break: You like Green Day?

Me: Best punk band out there.

Me: You like Metallica?

Shit-break: Yea cuz they own Greenday lololol

Me: "oh, they suck, listen to green day"

Shit-break: ummm no they don't douchebagg!!!!3!

Me: You listen to Metallica. You get angry when I diss them. I listen to Green Day. I get angry when you diss them. I rest my fucking case, Mr. Sodomy. Have a good day.

Shit-break: Ummm....ummm.....ummm.....COCK! *runs away*

None of my friends care about Green Day so it's not a topic I discuss with them. The majority of people I meet would have no idea that I like Green Day because I don't wear band t-shirts, etc. I have never met a "Green Day hater", only people who aren't interested in them.

I find music snobs of any kind very amusing though so I would quite enjoy meeting someone who was snobby about Green Day.
