Green Day Haters / people bashing you for being a Green Day fan?

People constantly give me shit about my music taste.

EVERYONE IN THE SCHOOL

Lady Gaga

Kanye West

3HO3

ME AND A COUPLE OF OTHER KIDS

Green Day

Nirvana

The Offspring

People think I'm the 'weird' one because I listen to Green Day and...well...I'm very anti-social in real-life. I also listen to Nirvana, and everyone in the school knows what Cobain did to his life. They think that I'm a psycho freak because I listen to Nirvana. I'll wear these ripped up, huge black sweaters that are 3 times too big for me. And when I sit at my desk in middle school and I have nothing to do, i'll either scratch my head or look at the ceiling. Sometimes, I tap drumbeats to songs on my desk. Sometimes, i'll just look around the room wide-eyed, and people think i'm seriously stoned out of my mind. The people that catch me look around the room like that approach me after class and say "Alex, you're high, aren't you." When I walk through the halls, I mumble stuff like "fuck you" or "dammit" to kids under my breath. People notice that too, and they think I'm a total creep. I don't talk to the 'cool' kids or the preppy sluts, let alone make eye contact with them. They talk to me. And not in a friendly way. I try to keep my distance from those kinds of kids.

^All that, plus the fact that people know that I listen to GD has made for a lot of being pushed around at school.

I get shit from people every so often. It used to REALLY bother me a few years ago, but then i realized that most the people saying this crap don't mean anything to me anyways, and the people who do mean something don't care if I'm obsessed. I get the typical junk, "they suck," "you're a poser for liking them," "they're so gay," and, most annoying of all, "They're sooooo 2005." It probably isn't hard to picture what kind of idiots this stuff comes from haha. All the disses i've heard have been far from intelligent, which makes it a lot easier. I usually just shrug and walk away, although every so often i'll stand up and defend them. It's funny how fast a lot of people become speechless once you've made a point

BTW, i've just read an article, where Billie compares a bad play with a Jonas Brothers concert xDDDD

Hahaha, at the Hartford show Billie Joe talked about going to the Hannah Montanna/Jonas Brothers show with his kids.

Apparently they had some good cocaine

I dont usually get stuff like this from people i know. my friends are all aware of my situation of being a tad obsessed with them :P but sometimes i'll have like, a bit of friendly banter with people which is always good, but sometimes people just shout abuse at me, in which case, i either turn my music up louder, or say something back that will confuse them :D

6 years ago when I started to listen Green Day people said me green day sucks.

and I don't really care, those people don't know what's green day and who is green day, they don't have any idea. If Billie and Tré use eyeliner they are a gays and it's not green day, it's green GAY, people just know american idiot...

"They're sooooo 2005.

I forgot that one! xD Here is "Green Day? Didn't they broke up after their ONLY cd?". And i'm like "no, you moron, they had just released their eight studio album, and they don't have twenty years old, they're about to turn 40!" I told that to a guy at school and he was like "40?! EIGHT CD'S?! When?!?!?" I don't understand why people thinks that everything older than 2008 is so damn old. I mean... The Beatles and The Who and the Sex Pistols are like from the 60's-70's and they're better than everything that's new right now x3

LOL, I'd love for someone to use the "They're sooooo 2005" line on me. I just think it'd be hilarious since, excluding Green Day, I mostly listen to things like 60s and 70s rock, songs from 1930s musicals, and Sinatra. Green Day is basically the least dated music in my collection. I'd just laugh at anyone who thinks I'd be upset because they think my taste in music is "soooooo 2005".

I've never really gotten criticized for being a Green Day fan. I guess the worst was when I posted about buying my ticket to their show on Twitter and someone replied with, "And how much did they pay you?" I wouldn't be surprised if someone did give me crap for it though. I'm very used to not having the most popular taste in stuff like music or movies so it wouldn't be the first time someone tried to start shit with me about it.

I introduced myself today to a new class, I think I said something like; ''Hi! My name's Emma, I'm 16 and I like Green Day''.

The teacher's response was ''Oh well, no one's perfect''.

My english teacher looked at my Green Day folder and started to sing something called "uptown girl". To this day, I don't know if she remembered(?) the song because of Green Day or if she believes that is a Green Day's song xD

Haha yeah, i was WAY more amused than offended!

I'm the same way. besides Green Day, the majority of my music is old school rock too, like 1970s-1980s. I find it funny people actually judge music like that, as if because it's not currently on the radio it's totally lost all its greatness. I guess i shouldn't be surprised though, the world is full of ignorant people

Yeah I think you are the only normals there if you one of the few that likes Green Day besides the other girl who likes Green Day as well and thats awesome that you stuck up for her too and made people like her, that makes you pretty cool in my book

haha thanks. yeah were so normal.

if someone used the '"they're sooo 2005" like,i'd like soooo laugh and walk away. :D

@ nevermind my name: yeah i know lol i just added the ZEE part because Joezee is another way i spell my name. :P

one day in biology, when i was a sophomore, our class asked if we could listen to music while working on our project, and our teacher said "sure, ive got American Idiot with me at the moment" and i was like wow thats cool lol, so he put it in and one of the preps that liked to piss me off all the time started saying really loud "Oh, god Green Day, why are we listening to this emo crap, somebody get me a razor so i can cut my wrists"..i soo soo badly wanted to turn to her and say "i will gladly get you a razor you bitch" but i just sat their quietly and didnt let her bother me. She eventually stopped picking on me about stuff cuz i never let it show that it bothered me.

If people make fun of you or pick on you becuz of what you wear or what you listen or anything else..all you gotta do is just sit there with a smile and secretly laugh at them for wasting their time thinking it will get to you, and they will, in time, leave you the fuck alone!

Today i decided to start to coff and say "gay" or "moron" to the guy that bully me the most, during or after my laugh (H)

When I was in high school, people would see my GD hoodie or shirt and slam doors in my face because I was an "anarchist" and listened to "shitty music". I also had some highly religious 'friends' who tried to convince me Christian metal was better...

I just told them all the fuck off...GD is my band and they've done a hell of a lot more for me that anyone else

Yeah, people take the piss. My friends I don't mind at all, I get 'Eeeeewww.. Green day' from a few.

I'm friends with quite a few 'metalheads', I've noticed the majority can be fairly arrogant and if you don't like metal then your music taste ''fucking sucks and you should go listen to some real fucking music,'' it gets annoying when they get really serious about it. Its like, chill out.

The rest of my school however, are convinced liking Green Day makes you a satanist. Obviously.

I've been slagged to the ground in work because I'm going to three shows in October. One of the lads just randomly announced to everyone "Oh yeah, Isabel's following Green Day around the world like a stalker."

It's 3 shows!!!

Today I was over a friend's house to work on a school project, and another guy we're working with put on Aiden, saying to me, "They sound a little like Green Day, right?"

I said, "Yeah, a little heavier."

And he says, "They sound like Green Day, just not as old and overplayed and tired." (Emphasis mine.)

 I was like, "Yeah, I'm going to ignore that." Them's fightin' words.

Posted

I get the typical "oh Green Day is lame, they're not punk, they're overplayed, I only like Dookie, 21CB sucks" blah blah blah you know the deal.

Posted

yeah some people are like oh they are just a bunch of old dudes. blah... some say they suck but my friends boyfriend.. when ever anyone says anything he says they rock lol just saying...

some friends banish me for listened to green day.but I think, if you don't like them fine ...you are missing one of the greatest bands ever :whistling:.

My friends don't really care for Green Day, but they don't bash me for liking them, either. They know better than to do that! They're my band, and have been for a long time now. It's well known how much I adore them. My friends know to respect that.

Several of my friends like the Jonas Brothers ( ) though, and what sucks about my friends NOT bashing Green Day is that I'm not allowed to bash the Jonas Brothers, either. Damn.

I was in Hot Topic the other day, just looking around and asked the girl "Have you gotten any new Green Day stuff in lately?" She responded no, and continued on to say how bad she thinks Green Day sucks, and if she wanted to hear music that sounded like the Beatles that she'd listen to the Beatles, not Green Day. I was like "Uh, can I go now?"

I think it's hysterical if I wear a Green Day shirt random people will go "I don't like them". I'm like "Uh, okay?" That's happened to me several times and I always find it so bizarre. I would never say that to someone wearing a band tee that I didn't like the band. Obviously if the person is wearing a band tee that means that THEY like the band and probably don't give a crap what I have to say about them. That, and, I don't like it when people say bad stuff about Green Day, so I try to be nice about other bands. You know, karma.

I don't care at all what people say about them... more than anything I just think it's rude.

Posted

I get bashed sometimes. But it's gotten to the point where I pretty much just don't care anymore, you know? I mean, if you want to bash GD or bash me for loving GD's music, fine. I don't care. I love them, and that's all that matters.

when i was in hoghschool we got this new teacher he let us guess where hes from, and gave us clues like "it has 1 of the biggest band in the world, and the color green", so i was like "Yeah! green day rocks!!! u r from oakland!!!" and then he gave me this look and said" um... no actually im from irland and i was referring 2 U2...."

ah fuck.

and i actually bash people who dont listen 2 green day :D
