People are entitled to believe what they like. I love Green Day and I've been a fan for a very long time. How people feel about them is there perogative/they have that right. If someone wants to label you because your a Green Day fan than imagine what they'll think of you for being a Marilyn Manson fan.

If I learn anything from Green Day -- it's to be an individual and think for yourself. That's the greatest advice anyone can give. So let the negative pundits say whatever they feel. I am still going to walk away with my own sense of identity not caring about what it is they think.

Agreed, wholeheartedly.

Here's some hope for those of you who get abused at school for your interests: You graduate, and all that shit doesn't matter anymore in the real world, and the kids who rank on you grow up and start thinking about more important things than whether or not some band sucks. Not all of them, mind you, but most of them. And you won't see the fuckers on a daily basis anymore, so after graduation, it's just over. In the meantime, just tell them to keep on being the mindless sheep they are, turn around, walk away with a smile on, and forget them.

I don't think anyone's ever given me shit for being a Green Day fan. But then, i was a senior in high school when Dookie came out, and all the cool kids were into GD. (skaters, artists, etc - my school was ass backwards as far as who the "popular kids" were, and I liked it that way!) My boyfriend likes GD these days, but back in the mid 90's (we were just friends back then) when he and I went to punk shows every weekend, he hated them so much,... He never made fun of me for it, though; we would just debate about their music. After Insomniac came out, there was this time that he picked me up to go to the city, and I popped my Insomniac tape into his car stereo. He listened for a bit, and he's all, "This is awesome! Who is it??" I laughed so hard, and then I told him it was Green Day... The look on his face was priceless. He's not so "elite" about punk like he used to be, but the funny thing is that Dookie is his favorite GD album now, and back then he absolutely refused to listen to it.

These days, I still wear my one remaining GD shirt pretty frequently... (the Kiss Me I'm Punk soccer jersey from the Pop Disaster Tour.)

No one ever says shit, not teens, adults, anyone. Maybe it's because I'm 6 feet tall and covered in tattoos, and apparently I look kind of mean to people when they first see me. Well, I can be excruciatingly and hilariously cruel if people are idiots towards me, but if not, I'm the sweetest person ever :) If anyone did come up to me these days, and said some shit about my shirt, I would hope I had a videocamera handy, because that would be some hilarious youtube fodder right there.

alot of people diss green day for "selling out" although they never did sell out they have always been very experimental they just hit the jackpot with AI is it also appealed to "non band fans",

however the people that make the statments "i dont like green day" " they have sold out"" are actually the biggest sell outs because they are selling out on green day because they thinks its cool not to like them!!

the same thing has happened with mcr!!

fuck them is what i say, green day have so many fans what the minority think will do fuckall to green day's reputation as a band.

fuck them!!

I reckon, Green Day fans get 'bashed' on, because GD are the sort of band you listen to, to get into other, better bands.

That made sense in my head.

Fucking hell, will this thread ever die?

but yeah, already made my point clear, I'm sure.

Yeah, that's why people say they don't like bands, because they think it's cool.

My Chemical Romance were always shit. They have always written, bland, uninspiring, faux-punk, and probably always will.

I'm also slightly confused as to how criticising bands who regularly sell out arena tours for the 'cool' points works on any kind of logical level.

To be fair, there are some people who will only say they like a band to look cool, and then in turn when they're no longer as popular slag them off to look cool. A lot of people don't even care about Green Day either way, but will make derisory comments about them if they think the company they're in would agree, in a pathetic attempt to fit in. I think you underestimate just how childish some people can be.

This doesn't work on a logical level, but it does work in the minds of idiots.

It's funny, I've never been 'bashed' for the bands that I like.

I must be very fortuitous.

This is true, but most people I've come across who don't like Green Day just don't like them because they don't like them. If these people are cunty, they get as good as they give, which is easy, as they mostly seem to be Metallica/Bullet for my Valentine fans anyway.

If not, live and let live.

And I think we can both agree that a post blanketing all people who don't like Green Day as 'sell outs' or doing it to be cool as well as not understanding how to pluralise the word 'think' is fucking moronic.

This I can agree with. The people I was referring to are in a tiny minority luckily.

I personally couldn't care less if or why someone doesn't like Green Day, or if they want to insult them. It makes no difference to my life, they're not insulting me. When people get personally offended by someone slagging off a band they like, it makes me lol. But unfortunately from looking at this thread it seems there are people out there who will bully or victimise someone for something as ridiculous as their musical taste.

Only a couple of my friends like Green Day. most of them are like man Green Day is shit listen to Rap its awesome  or listen to something else! Not everything on my Ipods is Green Day Jerkwads

mainly just one of my friends gives me shit. she's basically my drinkin' buddy and gets annoyed if I put anymore than two or three songs from 'em lol even if it's not anything off of American Idiot. it'll annoy me... sometimes make me only wanna play 'em that much more lol. There are times though she'll slip and start singin' along to a few songs and admit it's hard to not like some of the stuff lol.

same with another friend of mine that finds 'em annoying for the most part but the times she does pop in International Hits she'll hear practically the whole thing lol.

Meh.

i just think this is pathetic.

people should simply not be listend to if they have to resort to music tastes to bagg someone.

grow up.

^^ you are right! i hate when somebody criticizes you for your musical tastes...

I've definitely learned not to care what other people think of the music I listen to. It is impossible for everyone to like the same thing, so not everyone is going to agree with what you think is great music. You learn to deal and ignore the opinions you don't agree with.

I have to say rather than being annoyed and/or upset by people disliking me for liking Green Day. I believe i would just find myself struck by pity and remorse for them, as they are clearly morons.

Haha yes. And to that I would add I also find myself struck by extreme amusement at such silly people.

That's because Green Day is lame.

................ hold on. Why do you have an acount?

if anyone sees my locker at schaefer (my middle school I'm going to) and they say Green Day suck, It just isn't offensive to me. I'm used to it. I have two friends who like them, and a boy friend who like them, and they're all i need. I have other friends, and they joke about my liking green day, and bullet for my valentine and stuff, and me cussing, because for all of elementary school i was quiet, so now they say, No green day for you missie. and that stuff.

I just ignore them. I've always liked green day. the people who say green day suck are people i don't even know.

(sorry if i sound like a smart ass. I'm not good at saying stuff.)

That made sense in my head.

The question of how good a band is, is a question of personal preference. One person would believe that you cannot get better than Green Day and so it is not a stepping stone.

For you to make such a mindless presumption is quite thoughtless and naive.

Quite. There are no facts when it comes to liking and judging music. It's all down to your personal taste.

For some reason there often seems to be a sneering attitude towards Green Day, as if they're somehow not as worthy as other bands, or as if thinking they're the best band is something to be scoffed at. Well I think they've more than earned their dues, and to tell someone they'll 'grow out' of them and move on to 'better bands' frankly looks like music snobbery to me.

Maybe to some people they are the best band, and no less worthy of the title than anyone else as it's all just a matter of personal opinion.

A small comment. I think it is sometimes a selfish need for ownership. People who wish to be individual seem to like bands when they are small, not well known and they are one person in a small group of fans.

As soon as many other see the talent and too become fans they feel the band has sold out, which leads to a great deal of bitterness on there behalf.

i have a friend, who hates green day.

i used to be so obsessed, i still am but not as big.

i used to go on myspace and my song would always be a green day song.

nothing from american idiot, besides letterbomb.

cause i knew i'd get bashed further.

and my friend used to call them emo, and a douche.

i'd just laugh at him; especially as seeing as he loves dragonforce.

i really don't care, it doesn't bother me.

he's just messing with me.

That doesn't bother me, if someone feels that way they can go ahead, no problem. I just don't particularly need them to try to convert me to that opinion, or act as if their opinion is superior.

really...ugh. idk how to put it...

like, alright, imagine a fourm just like us, but for a different band.

lets say none of us really care for that band, and the feeling is mutual.

i think that both sides should show enough decency and respect to both the artist and a person's taste to not intentionally go ahead and seek out situations in which to bash or "diss" the other person.

it just never made sense to me. i choose not to get into it. I've gotten quite alot of shit for being a green day fan, and as most of you know i've tended to let it get to me. but next year...nah. i dont care anymore because green day has become such a part of me, that i wouldn't bother trying to cover it up anymore. i pitty them if they have to make such wrong assumptions and generalizations.
