Fuzz Posted December 29, 2007 Posted December 29, 2007 I, for one, am a Green Day Hater. I own every album, even though some of them I bought just to complete my collection. I used to be a real fanatic, almost obsessive, when I was 12-13. I thought they had a real "punk" attitude and I thought I could relate to the lyrics. Enter American Idiot. How can you take a band seriously after they sing about masturbating and getting high for over a decade and then all of a sudden take a hard political stance? For me, it's impossible. Now I see how immature and childish their other music is now. So I moved on, although Warning: remained one of my favorite albums. I started to get into the Clash, and I've found they were a hell of a lot more serious about what they sang about and how they also turned me on to other styles of music like reggae, funk, and amazingly enough, rap. Now I am into artists like Immotral Technique, Toots and the Maytals, and Johnny Thunders and the Heartbreakers. Once most of you mature, your musical tastes will grow and Green Day will just be an epic little footnote. No wonder others make fun of you people... Reggae, funk and rap? It's a good thing you don't listen to Green Day then. I'd be ashamed of you.
kerplunk17 Posted December 29, 2007 Posted December 29, 2007 Reggae, funk and rap? It's a good thing you don't listen to Green Day then. I'd be ashamed of you.And why would that be? Because you're a prick?
chickin'pickin' Posted December 29, 2007 Posted December 29, 2007 Why Andres?Diversity a crime now is it? I like to listen to Green Day, as much as they piss me off recvently. But i also like other genres such as the ones listed..along with Ska. I think your previous comment may not represent your true opinion, but then again, i may be wrong. And why would that be? Because you're a prick?Nice response, fool.
Michelle7107 Posted December 30, 2007 Posted December 30, 2007 Oh wait I did see this girl with a green day bag, and when she saw my green day patch she was like 'they were soooo much better before american idiot, they're new stuff sucks' I don't get it, is it a trend to hate AI because it became mainstream or something? But yeah anyway, I dont like talking to her she's really strange. She has huge boobs that she's always touching and she always runs around yelling anime Japanese crap. And then this Korean kid came to our school and she's always like dry humping him.
Sanah Posted December 30, 2007 Posted December 30, 2007 She has huge boobs that she's always touching and she always runs around yelling anime Japanese crap. And then this Korean kid came to our school and she's always like dry humping him. That made my day.
Mommy's Little Nightmare Posted December 30, 2007 Posted December 30, 2007 Oh wait I did see this girl with a green day bag, and when she saw my green day patch she was like 'they were soooo much better before american idiot, they're new stuff sucks' I don't get it, is it a trend to hate AI because it became mainstream or something?Yeah, I've noticed that too. I don't think it's because it became mainstream, because let's be honest- they went mainstream with Dookie... which is the album alot of the fans that bash American Idiot praise. And they call them sell-outs for American Idiot... even though they were getting the same shit for Dookie, and pretty much every other album they've released since then.People like that are always going to find something to complain about and one reason or another to dislike them. I'm sure they'll get more shit for their next album too, no matter what they choose to do with it.I mean, I can see music taste changing and just not being as into them as you used to be- 'cause God knows I've done that with AFI and The Used, but that's different. But what I don't get is the people who liked the band alot at one point, and then decided with American Idiot, that Green Day simply COULDNT go political because it's absolutely absurd that a band that wrote about masturbation and pot in their teens and 20s could care about anything but that, even though, you know... they're in their 30s, with wives, girlfriends, ex-wives, and children and the state of the world is very obviously going downhill. No... they couldn't care about that at all. ANd it's completely ridiculous that a band that writes about things that they care about at the time could possibly say anything relevent to politics in a time where there's so much political turbulance going on in the world...
Fuzz Posted December 30, 2007 Posted December 30, 2007 Why Andres?Diversity a crime now is it?No, bad taste in music is. Or rather, just bad music.
25694th Member Posted December 30, 2007 Posted December 30, 2007 No, bad taste in music is. Or rather, just bad music. So anyone that doesn't share your opinions has bad taste in music? That's pretty fucking lame.

TotalBasketCase13 Posted December 30, 2007 Posted December 30, 2007 Whenever most people find out Green Day are my favorite band they usually roll their eyes and proceed to tell me how big of sellouts they are, how much American Idiot sucks, etc. Gets a tad bit tedious having to listen to them.

Once most of you mature, your musical tastes will grow and Green Day will just be an epic little footnote. No wonder others make fun of you people... You, my friend, are utterly ridiculous and absurd. I find that I am pretty damn mature, and guess what? I still like Green Day. For once being a fanatic, you have several things wrong regarding Green Day. Green Day has always been a band that writes songs based on what they feel and/or what is going on in their life. For Dookie, they've dealt with some pretty difficult things- being curious about one's sexuality, being out on your own for the first time, and watching a long, lost friend become something you detest. Maybe that sounds a bit juvenile to you, but let's keep in mind that the guys were still young- 22. That's roughly my age, and most people go through that stuff at that age. When you're at that age, it can get pretty damn scary having to deal with that shit. A year later, Insomniac came out. Songs about dealing with new-born infants, having daily anxiety attacts, moving thousands of miles away to try to fulfill some sort of dream, and just reflecting back on your life thus far came about. That's not all that immature. That's real life and all of that can make or break a person. Nimrod dealt with similar issues. Now, enter Warning. Warning is filled with hatred for that hard life. It deals with politics, police, depression, the insanity of commercialism, and having difficulties with one's family. Once again, this is not immaturity. This is real life. It's hatred that a lot of people feel. I think what your problem is is that you just listen to the songs that are goofy and aren't meant to be taken so seriously. But that's how life is- you have things that are fun and then you have shit happen that sucks and you have to be serious. Green Day have grown up in their music- it's evident by just looking at their lyrics and correlating that with their lives. Green Day writes with truth. They write what they feel. To say that their music is immature is to call them immature, and that is extremely wrong. They did not spend a decade being little shits and then get serious. They didn't go from drugs to politics. It was a hill that they climbed. You just completely missed it. Maybe one day, you'll go back and just listen to the lyrics and realize how wrong you are. Maybe one day, you'll learn that not everything in music can just be simply stated as if it were a personal journal. You have to look into things and you have to think... or maybe that's the problem- you're incapable of thinking. Maybe you're still too immature to understand songwriting as it relates to one's life. Maybe you have yet to experience some of these things and are otherwise unable to completely understand the level of intelligence and maturity needed to cope with such circumstances and experiences. Or maybe you're just a damn moron who wants to tear everyone down. Whatever you are, I hope one day you learn. Have a nice day.

MrGreenDayUK Posted December 30, 2007 Posted December 30, 2007 wow....what kind of douche bag gets on a green day fansite forum...just to say he hates green day.....*shakes head*Actually, I must confess, I once did that on the Travis fan forum, after being encouraged by someone on here- can't remember who. Anyway it's pretty immature and shitty BUT it was fucking good fun. Someone even threatened to 'put me to sleep permanently' after I suggested that Travis were a band whose songs could send you off to the land of nod at 100 paces..... ahhh good times.
ChewingOnTinFoil Posted December 30, 2007 Posted December 30, 2007 it kinda sucks when when a friend or friends comes over to my house and see all those green day posters on my wall and then they start talking about how much they suck or something, sometimes I just wanna kick them out

billiejoeskillereyes Posted December 31, 2007 Posted December 31, 2007 it winds me up when people do that, its like, sellouts?? like you even KNOW what you mean when you say thatfair enough if they've just moved on, but saying that you've changed your whole perspective is just ICKand people should just accept that you like GD and also realise that if you like em, you're not really gonna appreciate it if the person goes on to say how terrible they are.the faces people make sometimes are just awful
