justcause Posted April 13, 2006 Posted April 13, 2006 I think Stuck With Me would be my number one; it's a total mood-piece, reflecting the dark and speedytone of the album. The black and white photography is muted and spooky, the effect of an old movie rather than, for instance, the inky saturated black and white of BIAB. The camera work is jittery and fast-moving, the color cut-ins of the album's unsettling sleeve art, all add to the feeling of being in someone's head-trip, some netherworld of the mind. The band are like they're each in their own compulsive little world, BJ's eyes look like they're each on a separate orbit, and he's completely wired - it's one of those indelible images of Insomniac, the glancing shots of his wild-eyed face and that particular spikey-gelled hair thing. Favorite video, favorite song of favorite album, yeah!Also have to mention -Basket Case and Longview are iconic GD, the first impression the world at large got of those East Bay punk kids, and they made it count with these kick-ass vids that underlined their attitude, their personalities, their look, the humor and the darker undercurrent, all the while serving the song.Waiting - the answer to 'what would it be like if GD played in your living-room'? This is full of the sweet, straightforward yearning of the song. And the stop/start for 'dumbstruck'! In its own way, it's very haunting, despite the sunny atmosphere.American Idiot - Kick-ass, jumpy, in-your-face, insolent, and for men in their mid-thirties, it manages to be bratty; worthy of the song. The wall of green paint washing down from flag, the hangar setting, BJ miming a gunshot to the head. And there's lots of jumping with guitars.Macy's - Dark, strange, unsettling, bleak -love it. And Billie's haircut says more than words!Nice Guys Finish Last - Just fucking great fun.Redundant - Like a production line going over, and over and over...the looped story going on behind Billie's vocal; he's incidental, reflecting 'taken for granted now'.

Longview is a sentimental favorite, first one I saw. Stuck W/Me is possibly my all time favorite song by GD so its up there too. I also love the funny ones, Walking Contradiction, Warning, Nice Guys Finish Last, etc. I guess I will just say this, my least favorite? Wake Me Up When Sept Ends, hows that?
