I love Green Day to death but I voted for the Beatles. I mean, c'mon..they have some of the most classic songs of all time, one of the most classic rock groups ever. No comparison.

the beatles were really not very good.

Beatles were kind of... bland when it came to music.

It's comments like these that make me wonder how much of The Beatles' music you guys have actually heard. Are you only listening to their early records or something? Because that's the only way I can figure out how someone can be incapable of recognizing their songwriting skills. Even if you're not impressed by any particular song, you should at least be able to acknowledge the incredible range of musical styles they're able to span with their songs. Saying that they're only considered "pop" is the most misguided thing I've ever heard said about The Beatles. Seriously, what have you actually heard?

Take a song like "Please Please Me" and compare it to "Helter Skelter", or "Being For the Benefit of Mr. Kite". Or even songs off the same album, like the white album--they range from blues to soft rock to ballad to heavy metal to sitar experimental.

Please, before you make such heavy-handed criticisms of a band, educate yourself. Listen to a significant portion of their catalogue. Otherwise, you just look like an idiot.

the bealtes were the largest concentratoin of musical charisma in history.

Musical charisma? What the fuck are you talking about?

Green Day, Beatles are excellent but I prefer GD

I personally don't like The Beatles. I think they're too overplayed and I don't get why they had so much succes. Yeah I get that they were a new kind of music and that they made some good songs, but that they still are consideret the biggest band ever is a lie, I think, 'cause they are not so good, and The Who is way better! so I voted GD.

I didn't mean to offend anybody, so sorry if I did, it's just my personal meaning.

I bought the bealtes tablature.

They're very easy to play. I've heard every Beatle song, and I listen to them all the time.

this is a really retarded poll to have here. no joke.

buuttt.. it is a good place to put my beatles minirant.

the beatles were really not very good. no matter what way you look at it. their lyrics were not good at all of course you would not expect much form their genre. pop. ick.

the term "pop" wasn't even given a distinct sound until this decade. the beatles weren't pop when they were making music, so that's a retarded statement. even more retarded is saying their lyrics weren't good at all while comparing them to green day.

they were in no way superior musicians, or good songwritters. they were only tegether for less then half as long as green day has been so far.

in 7 years the beatles released 13 albums and enough non-album singles to fill up 2 more albums, all of them great. doesn't that say a lot more about a band who takes years to make their albums?

there was only one reason they were so popular.

musical charisma.

its just taht element that makes all pop bands, well, /popular/. mainly because it is the only factor that 'non musicly inclined'(*cough*retarded*cough*) people absorb. the unexplainable factor taht makes it so damn /catchy/ even if it sucks as music. the bealtes were the largest concentratoin of musical charisma in history. hence they were huge.

this is would be an excellent theory, except it wouldn't be supported by absolutely anyone who knows a thing about music. people listen to music because they like the music, not because it's charismatic. have you ever put on a cd and said "wow, this is charismatic, therefore i like it". you're also trying to say that charisma = catchy, which again is completely wrong.

Lyrically, they were amazing. Green Day don't stand a chance against the Beatles.

I'd say, talent wise when ti comes to music, equal, but I like the sound of Green Day better.

there's no way they're musically equivalent. it's not an argument of how easy or hard the stuff is to play. green day basically lay down three power chords and call it a day. the beatles explored a much wider range of sounds and effects, going as far as indian music, and incorporated a wide range of instruments at the same time. the beatles were also able to push the boundaries of their extremely limited technology and essentially reinvent the idea of recording, whereas green day have the luxury of multi-mullion dollar studios with limitless tampering at their fingertips.

Good point.

I was speaking from guitar perspective. I bought the studio-version album tabs, and it was really easy to play.

The Beatles, are legends. I love Green Day , i really do. They're my favorite fan and everything. But, this is where i'm not bias, i know the Beatles are the best.

how ironic that those are the only two bands that got a Rock Band, and here they are 4 years ago in a pole poll

I prefer Green Day. Yeah, The Beatles are classic, but like everything else that's "classic" it's more a result of being in the right time and right place. If The Beatles as we know them came into existence today, in this day and age, rather than back in the 60's, I don't think they would be universally hailed as the greatest band ever.

Why does this thread even exist? I love Green Day and can relater and all, but it's The Beatles. Not even competition.

Posted

Over 4 years old

Posted

a lil bit pointless on a Green Day Forum

Posted

I love both bands... but The Beatles are no longer a band even though there music is still relevant... I 'm going to have to go with Green Day

 This is a bump I approve of. It's because they're both so fabulous.

Posted

Without the Beatles' influnce, many bands like Green Day could not be the same as they are now.

Posted

lol this thread is so biased, since it's on a site dedicated to Green Day.

Posted

More people voted for Green Day than the Beatles. I am ashamed.

The Beatles, all the way. GD pale in comparison.

This is a Green Day forum not a Beatles forum so what would you expect - there's lots of people here who hugely admire Green Day's contribution to music and consider them up there with the rest of the greats. Both bands are more than worthy of being called the best so it comes down to personal preference.

Just because The Beatles came first it doesn't make them the only band that can be considered the best. /commenting on a pointless 4 year old thread that's gonna get closed :P

Posted

I really like both bands, but you can't just choose which is better.

Although I would say The Beatles, since they've had such a big impact on music. (Not hating on Green Day or anything.)
