I heard about them again when Warning was released and then I'm an Avril Lavigne fan so I heard her version of Basket Case and my thought waaaaaaaas...."Hmm...I wonder what the real band sounds like?". Here I am
Jimmys_Left_Hand Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 I lived all over California (Aniheim, Sacramento, Elk Grove, Sacramento, Oakland, Sacramento, Berkeley/Santa Rosa, Willits, Sacramento, San Fran, Berkeley, Oakland, etc. XP Lotsa moving and shuttling around) but I was always with these punk bands, the hippies, the musicians. I lived in the same squatter building as Green Day when my brother and I were like 3. I have a scar on my arm from cutting it on some siding or roofing material. Maybe it was just sheet metal. Anyway I have a childhood memory of Mike in all his long-haired glory yelling at my older brother (He raised my twin bro and I) "Take care of this kid, aight? They can't be fuckin runnin around, man, take CARE OF THIS KID!" That's about all I remember, but my older brother's been a raging Green Day lunatic since he was 7, and he's just been a main influence on us. That and it was like growing up there were things that never changed. Most of them sucked it HARD, but Green Day-- Mike, Billie Joe and that other guy (j/k we love you, Tre) they were a staple; they're great guys and seeing them, watching them preform was a little ray of hope that maybe things didn't always suck. I can honestly say that I loved Green Day the moment I heard them. I can also say that the punk trio are like fathers for my brother and I; I'm a musician today because of them. Not just Green Day, but Tre, Mike, and Billie. Those people. I listen to other bands; Black Sabbath, Screeching Weasel, Operation IVy, The Killers (only when I'm coming down from a panic attack or I'm driving in Wal Mart parking lots), Iron Maiden, shit, a ton more, I just can't think of 'em...XP And it doesn't matter what you've got, it matters what you DO with it. I'm stuck in this shitthole town in Oregon right now, and I'm gonna go to an art school to learn 2D animation for a year. ONE year. And I'm paying every cent of it out of my pocket. I'm gonna go places, I'm not going to sterotype myself, say I'm a punk and smoke all my brains away. Yeah, I am a punk; its something you're born into, you can't just pick it up...I lived in the gutter and the street of Oakland and San Francisco California, and I know how hard it is to get out. I'm surviving. I'M doing it....Uhm, ok, so bottom line my older brother got me into Green Day when we were living in Berkeley. I just wanted to rant. Sorry. :whistling:
Shenanigan Posted April 7, 2006 Posted April 7, 2006 My mom got me into Green Day. She grew up listening to them, but she stopped when me and my bro were babies, cuz she didn't want us to learn bad words and such. But as we got older we started listening to more rock music, especially Green Day.

- Whatsername - Posted April 7, 2006 Posted April 7, 2006 A friend of mine who was a casual fan of Green Day once told me that Billie Joe was 30-something and had 2 kids. I couldn't believe he was that old, so I googled him and looked up the facts. I actually think I went to GDA. After that I got interested in Green Day and started exploring some of their old songs and got American Idiot. I soon bought ISH and was absolutely hooked. Now I only need 2 more of their ablums - Kerplunk and 1039/SOSH. :3
