My mom actually got me and my sister into them! My mom was a punk in her teens and when me and my sister were born, she would play us some songs. But I was too young to remember that it was Green Day.

But then, when me and my sister got older (when I was in fourth grade), my mom bought us AI and we loved them instantly! I thank her deeply for that! :D

I think it was American Idiot and Holiday that made me first listen to them.

But then I found out that we had a copy of Dookie in our house that one of Mum's ex's had left behind and when I heard Burnout I fell head over heels in love with them. :)

Well, when I was 6 years old my mom, my brother and I went to see Godzilla at the movies. Then, we bought the VHS and I got really into the dinosaur, so when we went to MixUp (CD's store) I saw they were selling the CD with the soundtrack of the movie and Godzilla on the cover, so my dad bought it to me  Days later, my brother and I listened to the CD and there was Brain Stew. I'm mexican, so I couldn't even pronounce the name of the song at that time, but my brother and I loved to hear it  And every time we went in the car we asked my dad to put the track :P The years went by and in 2004 I watched American Idiot's video... I bought the record and by the time Wake Me Up When September Ends came out, I was a already a fan of them  Then I found out they were the same guys who played Brain Stew and I fell in love again  (?)

End of story

My parents have always listened to them, so them, I became a mad fan when I was 11 or 12 :)

I was watching music videos with my cousin and we saw the American Idiot music video. I remember us saying, "Oh, I know this band. They've changed a lot! Damn, they're hot." XD And then I remembered hearing other songs from them in the past, we both got into them, and the rest is history :)

My sister was a massive fan in the nineties, so when I was 11, I saw the American Idiot video and fell in love(And yes, I went through the standard teenie phase). My sister gave me her old copy of Dookie and bought me AI and International Superhits, I played International Superhits to pieces, almost every day you would hear "Billie Joe! It certainly is exciting..." coming from my speakers in my bedroom. The rest is pretty much history

I had occasionally heard their singles on the radio and what not. Then my band suggested that we performing Minority at a battle of the bands. I listened to it and really like what I heard. I then got ahold of Dookie and REALLY fell in love with them. Their music regardless of what album is simply amazing and inspiring.

I saw "American Idiot" video on tv and absolutely fell in love with it. And I remember "When I Come Around" too, but that didn't catch me so much, so I just passed them by. Now I regret I didn't listen to them before AI.

My brother got American Idiot for his birthday, a present from a friend. After listening to it for a while, he was like "Here, you can have this" and gave me the CD. What I heard that day changed my life.

Oh man I LOVE telling this story!

It all started probably in May of 2005. I heard American Idiot on the radio and I liked it but it was just another song I liked. Then in June 2005 I was sitting home on summer vacation from school bored as anything so I turned on the TV and BOBD came on. I heard about that song but I never bothered to listen to it because I never heard it and I only liked American Idiot but this time was different. I decided to listen to it. Then I saw a whole new world (you know in the movies where that music plays and it gets all bright in the room) thats what happened. I quickly downloaded it and couldn't stop listening to it. Then I downloaded all of American Idiot and fell in love with it. But it wasn't until I saw Live 8 and I actually saw what the band looked like that I became how I am today. and I keep liking them more and more.

it was in 2005. me and my friend were in her bedroom just few days before christmas and we were reading some random magazines. I saw a small picture of Billie in one of them and asked her if she knew who's that guy...she was all like "ohh you don't know him? that's Billie Joe from an awesome band called Green Day." and I remember her telling me about St Jimmy video.

I was only 12 at the time so I didn't really care about what was that as long as my best friend tells me it's good :P

So I told my mom the next day that I want American Idiot for christmas. I totally forgot about it until I saw it under the christmas tree. At first my mom practically forced me to put it in cd player and listen to it, but just after first few songs I was like "wow this is great". . I spent days in my room with lyrics book, dictionary and listening to the cd over and over again. That was actually the first band that I felt some connection with. After few weeks I started buying the rest of the discography and the rest is history I guess :P

I remember seeing them a lot on Beavis and Butthead when I was like 8-9... One Lithuanian channel used to air the same episodes a lot and I really valued those sick guys in a hospital (Basket Case) over weird guys having a Jesus with a Santa's cap, hung on a cross (Nirvana's Heart-Shaped Box). And once when I was 10 I saw this 'such an awesome song' on MTV that was on some kinda top and it was #1! I rocked out and at the end of the video checked the title and artist - it said Green Day, Boulevard of Broken Dreams. I got that song and a few more (Holiday, American Idiot, WMUWSE, Basket Case) and listened to them for more three years.. Then suddenly in 2009 Spring everyone started talking about Green Day and I thought I should get the whole discography and seriously check them out.

That's the story. :D

My sister Veronica (SHOUT OUT), she introduced basically the whole family to Green Day during American Idiot. I didn't start listening to them immediately (I was still in my boy band phase  ). But I did about a month or so later, then I started getting into their music. :bunny:

First seeing the American Idiot music video on a music channel. Then turning to my friend and going ''wow, he's kinda hot''

Then she came to me, and told me that the song 'Time of Your Life' was by the same band we just saw. I was like ''wow, i didn't realize THEY were the ones who sang that!'' (yeah don't ask why we didn't check beforehand...)

And so, yeah. That was the moment i discovered them, which is kinda sad since it was only in 2004/2005 but meh.

I first listened to American Idiot when I was about eight, and I didn't think it was anything great.

four years later, my sister told me to listen to a song called Know Your Enemy by some band called Green Day.

The rest, as they say, is history.

I could repeat the whole how I got into Green Day story, but I'm starting to bore myself with it, so overall the first time I heard 21 Guns on live at Abbey Road made me smile to myself and go woah. That was definitely the turning point for me even though i was already getting into them.

I actually got into Green Day when I was 10.. My Brother was listening to the Dookie Album really loud and it was pissing me off.. a few weeks later I decided to listen to it so I took it out of his room and never gave it back lol
