JadedHaushinka Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 Green Day songs on MTV, on the radio and my friend told me more about them. That's how I got into them.
Miss Hedgie Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 My penpal she wrote to me saying, "Have you heard of a band called Green Day? Listen to Basket Case..." It was one of the best things I've ever did.
CarolineGilman Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 I was 10 and shopping with my best friend. She bought AI because she liked Holiday but couldn't find the single (back when people still bought those ) We played it on the way home and as soon as American Idiot ended, she asked her dad what a faggot was. He was pissed off and I thought it was brilliant so I bought it the next day. But I didn't really become a big fan until the same friend dragged me to see them in October last year. It was amazing so I raided HMV the day after and bought every GD album I could afford. LOL! Thats funny. I can't believe she asked her dad. i would have googled it or something... haha
dreaming Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 Accidentally heard WMUWSE at night, curious about this "young" voice. Than found JOS and got totally blown off. And it started.
iLozza! Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 My brother, who happens to hate rock music. Best thing he ever did for me.
Katarina. Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 Hearing WICA on tv, and an assignment we got at school in English. We had to fill the blanks of the lyrics, on top of the page was a picture of a 'certain' band, Green Day of course, and the song was Boulevard Of Broken Dreams.. Both were at the end of 2004/(beginning of) 2005. As soon as I could I gathered more info about the band and listened to every album they had at that point, loved it, and got myself into Green Day. That's where it all began
Ellenkc Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 LOL! Thats funny. I can't believe she asked her dad. i would have googled it or something... haha We were only 10 , she just thought it was some random word she didn't know.
finksgirl Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 Mine's... a long weathered tale. XD About 9 years ago my mom had this boyfriend. Real douche, I hated him but he had this massive music collection. I remember this huge cd stack that he never listened to anymore and they were just gathering dust so I dug through it and saw Dookie. I love the cover and the name sounded so familiar so I took it in my room and put it in my cd player. From the first song it was love. I just remember everytime I got to a single going "OMG! I REMEMBER THEM!" and it totally clicked. I actually had sort of a flashback of being about 4 years old in the back of my mom's friends Mustang and Basket Case being on. I was kinda bobbing my head to the song and that was the moment I fell in love with the band and with Mustangs. XD I didn't know what Green Day looked like though. We didn't have cable and we never had internet before so I was just stuck listening to Dookie over and over again. It was like my little security blanket then one day I had FUSE on (after we finally got basic) and they were talking about some video premiere and it was American Idiot. I just about died. Here were the guys I loved and looked up to and I finally got to see their faces after years without it. It was when love turned to obsession. And after Hurricane Katrina they were the only thing keeping me going.
CarolineGilman Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 We were only 10 , she just thought it was some random word she didn't know. haha ok, i guess that makes sense. its still freaking funny though!!!! i still laugh when i read it!
Equus1039 Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 I do believe that I had heard Basket Case as a child, because when I first heard it knowing who Green Day was it sounded familiar. But it really started when I heard BOBD on a Kidz Bop commercial (which is painfully embarrassing for me to admit), but never bothered to look it up. Then, at camp in 2005, one of my friends was a big fan. So, when I got home and looked them up, the first result I saw on Youtube was Brain Stew. I watched it, but I didn't like it at the time (love it now though). A few years later, around late '07, my brother wanted to show me the music video for American Idiot (I was preoccupied at the time and didn't pay much attention). Sometime after that, I wanted to see the video again. I liked it, looked up some other songs, and after years of wondering who sang it, found Boulevard of Broken Dreams. I've been hooked ever since.
petros Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 I shaw the WMUWSE music video in TV! My sister told me Oh, look peter I love this song and I was expecting to hear a pop song which is what she always listens to and I shaw a really cool band with eye-liner and black clothes! Then I bought AI and I stuck with it!I was listening to it on it's entirely at least 2 times every day! Then I saw the music video of Basket Case and start listening to their older stuff too except from America Idiot!

Undómiel Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 I heard 'Wake Me Up When September Ends' in my school assembly because my physics teacher had requested it and after that I was simply a fan for life.... who knew physics teachers could actually be useful?
