04rebhop Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 Someone in my form liked them when i was in year 7. I didn't really like any music at the time, but i gave them a listen and i just loved them. I think i truly got into them when i watched the grammys and they performed American Idiot on there. I thought their performance was totally amazing.
Black Wolf Angel Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 Ahhh... That night is a memory I shalt not soon forget... <3 I was at my grandparents' apartment house, spending the night there with them and my cousin, Elora, who I hardly see since she was taken away from her mother because of my aunt's drug abuse. I was majorly depressed, and I was there to help comfort my grandparents, who's house (which was around 100 years old and a historic landsite) burned down in an electrical fire, and because, as I said before, I hardly see Elora. My insomnia was getting the best of me, piled on with anxiety and stress. My dog, Bandit, was in intensive care after being bit in the neck by a copperhead snake; he was ten years old and already ill. I didn't want to loose him. He was my best friend. I just couldn't sleep. So Elora and I went into the livingroom and turned on the TV. After a while, she fell asleep, so I tuned into MTV, MTV2, and VH1 to watch music videos. It was a while, but after they played Eminem's 'Beautiful', I was caught off guard. Suddenly... I heard the haunting, echoing begining cords, striken so true... Then... a voice. The most calming, warm, soothing voice I'd ever heard, even past my own mother's. Lyrics that almost ripped into my soul. It was early morning, that time when the sky is an iceberg blue, before the sun bleeds the sky into colors of sea green, blazing red, golden yellow, and dying purple. That time when the stars start to fade, and the darkness of night wanes. The blinds in the livingroom were dyed that iceberg blue, and within 30 seconds of the song, I was in tears. Then thoughts ran through my head. Thoughts that never broke to me before. I couldn't go out with my plan of commiting suicide; my cousin needed me, my dog needed me... There WERE people out there that loved and cared for me. I watched in pain and joy the rest of the video, and when the credits showed at the end, I smiled. Green Day. 21 Guns. I can still remember before drifting to sleep, whispering, "Thank you, Green Day..." *sighs* They... They're my heroes. I will ALWAYS be a fan of GD. They saved me... from myself. <3 Bandit made it, and after I got home I looked up the lead singer of Green Day. In the video, he looked to be about 17, so when I found out he was 37 (at the time), I was blown out of my mind. xD I love them all, but... Billie's my fave. <3 He sung that song, played those cords, and was open about being bi, which helped me except the fact I was bi. I seriously love Tré and Mike, but... Billie will always have that special place in my heart... <3
emilyy. Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 my dad's friend gave us a cassette with a bunch of songs that he liked on it minority was on it and we just kept repeating it and blasting it out <3 from that moment, I got into GD and haven't stopped loving them I don't know what year this was, but when everyone still listened to music on tapes!

AfterShock Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 Heard AI on the radio when it first came out...picked up the album and it went from there
*Maria_Laura* Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 My cousin introduced me to Green Day when I was eleven. Later on , on my twelfth birthday I saw the video for basket case and from then on i fell in love with Green Day <3 My cousin and I also became closer due to Green Day.. but sadly we're not as close as we used to be now......
Izzard Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 Even though I grew up with them..sort of..like my brother was obsessed with whatsername and I never knew who it was, but I liked it. I remember I used to go around singing the first line of basket case (it was the only line I knew) and I didn't know who did the song, I also heard Good Riddance at camp when I was younger and yeah still didn't know who they were. Then I was watching TV and bobd came on and I was like, I don't like this (I don't remember why...I was probably just in a bad mood or something) and once I was just in my room watching the much music count down and wake me up when september ends came on and I was like "Hey that chick is in 13!" (Evan Racheal Woods) and through out the video I just stayed silent and it made me cry (I know pussy with a capital P right? whatever.) So I officailly found out who Green Day were, and that was around Christmas so in January I got my Christmas cash together and went out and purchased American Idiot (I now have 2 AI Cds). So I guess what got me into Green Day was their music, I mean for God sake they only stocked me for about 5 years of my life!!! I bought AI in 2005...but I've had nimrod forever I just never knew who the hell they were... So yes AI breathed life into me, the day I got the CD I was reborn. (I also remember the occasion when I first saw Long View, that was the moment I fell in 'love' with Billie Joe)
GreenDayisAmazing Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 Well I kinda liked Green Day’s music before but I didn’t know it was them. Then in 7th grade this girl always wore Green Day stuff and I liked her punk style. I really became a huge fan during American Idiot when I was in 9th grade.
Nmd Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 Yeah, I knew who Green Day was growin up and liked all their music I heard on the radio, but BOBD made me feel amazing when I first heard it.. that made me buy AI, and that is what totally got me into the band and I got all the other albums love 'em!!
CarolineGilman Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 Im not sure who, but someone bought some of the american idiot singles and good riddance from itunes and they just hung out on my ipod for like a year and i didn''t listen to them but then one day i did and i was like omfg! this is awesome. lol. so yeah, thats it. I'm not sure where to post this, just a random thing. I was watchin one of those =3 videos and he does those things where he ask a question and then he shows some of the cool responses in the video and one he showed was posted by "havinagreenday" i was like yea!
Kristina. Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 I don't remember it exactly, but I think that was 3-4 years ago... We were at the mountains with school (with higher class) and I met a few new people. They loved Green Day so much. We sang Gd's songs,we listened a few songs and I really came to love this kind of music. After trip,I started to search more songs and I absolutely fell in love. Then I touched my friends into this music and we had an amazing summer holiday- Green Day,Green Day and Green day(discography, videos, interviews, photos etc) It's been a long time ,but I'm really thankful for the one boy,who was at the mountains and who showed me the best band ever...
Laura! Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 My friends kept playing BOBD over and over on the way home from school in 2005, then my other friend burnt me a copy of American Idiot and I just fell in love.
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 I heard one of their songs on the radio, rest is history /shortest post and with the least wub's in a thread like this ever
franci175 Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 I heard a basketcase cover by Avril Lavigne .................... I was a little child
Shaekwon Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 I heard a basketcase cover by Avril Lavigne .................... I was a little child Would've taken that secret to the grave.
Ellenkc Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 I was 10 and shopping with my best friend. She bought AI because she liked Holiday but couldn't find the single (back when people still bought those ) We played it on the way home and as soon as American Idiot ended, she asked her dad what a faggot was. He was pissed off and I thought it was brilliant so I bought it the next day. But I didn't really become a big fan until the same friend dragged me to see them in October last year. It was amazing so I raided HMV the day after and bought every GD album I could afford.
KatherineKerplunk Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 I hate to say this but.... my brother found Green Day before me (I wish I found them myself) and show me Basketcase and Longview video. This was about a few months before American Idiot came out.
clairex Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 We got MTV in 1995, when it used to actually play music. Tthey played one of the videos everyday early in the morning at the same time for about a month. I used to sneak up to watch it. One morning me and my cousin got up to watch it and we drank her dads beer that she had stole and brought to my house. I threw up and blamed it on the dog.
Devilsaint Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 I did a project about them like, 6 years ago.. And I tend to REALLY get into what ever I do.. Så I REALLY got into Green Day... And became a fan for life..
