You'll laugh: My grade 9 math teacher. She's always listening to the local rock station and one day they played American Idiot and I liked it because it spoke to me, as corny as it sounds. That was about a year and a half ago.

My friend let me listen to BLVD, and then I bought American Idiot. Then bought everything else. I really owe my Green Dayness to When I Come Around, though.

My sis got me into it. She's liked them for a while, and then I began really liking them... then LOVING THEM!

don't exactly remember. it was gradual. I knew OF them ever since they became Green Day and maybe when they were Sweet Children. don't know when it went from liking them to being a fan.

they are my generation.

I was 9 years old and I used to (still) mind on my sister's bussinnes...and I entered her room and I listed to "baskte case" and I loved the song. So .... the rest is history.

I bought a compilation CD called "Shine" and "Welcome to Paradise" was on it. I'd never heard of Green Day but it ended up being one of my favourites on the CD. Then I heard/saw "When I Come Around" on MTV and liked that too, so I've been a fan since then. This was my 2nd year at university, so it must have been 1994.

When I was in high school, Dookie came out and was everywhere. My little group of friends was into stuff like GD, Bush, Blind Melon, Pearl Jam, etc., so I was a fan, of course. I kinda stopped following them as I got older, and the Dookie songs became a few of the many that I'd hear on the radio and think "awwww, I miss high school. I should listen to these guys more!" But I never seemed to get around to it.

Then when buzz started happening around AI, my husband (who's been a hardcore fan since GD's Lookout days) and I started talking about them tons. When he mentioned going to see the tour, I was like "wow, that could be fun!" And the rest is history :)

So yeah, AI didn't get me into them, but it did get me BACK into them.

I guess no one really got me into Green Day. I just kind of bought AI and it went from there. It wasn't even like I had even heard of AI (I swear). I just saw it at the music section at Borders where they have the top 20 albums or something like that. I had also seen Dookie in my basement where my dad kept all his old CD's and so I decided to buy it. If my dad liked it, then I probably would too. My dad and I are pretty much the same when it comes to musical taste.

This sounds so stupid, but it was Boulevard of Broken Dreams. There was a lot of shit in my life and hearing that song on the radio expressed everything I felt. I started listening to KROQ more just so I could hear it on a regular basis. After about three more months of shit, I talked myself into buying AI. A week later I started buying every Green Day album I could find and listening to them non-stop. My family hated it. They still do. But it's getting me through the shit still in my life, so I don't care what they think. So, basically the radio caused my obsession.

i saw them on the pop disaster tour when i went to see blink 182 when i was 12 and discovered that they played a lot of songs that i had liked and didn't know was them.

Mine's a similar story - they were a band I liked in my university days but I can't claim to have been a die-hard fan ever since then. I always liked their songs, but I probably wouldn't have listed them among my favourite bands. Then "International Superhits" remided me how good they are, and "American Idiot" sealed it. Now I'm a little bit obsessed, with one or other of their CDs in the stereo most days.

Sadly i only got into them this year. I ahd BOBD and WMUWSE before and i like the songs. But then my friend came in one day and all she could talk about was Green Day. she kept telling me and the rest of our friends all of these little random facts about then and that she had gotten Bullet in a Bible. So she came over my house one day and she brought it to watch (her 21st time) i went CRAZY! and not because i think Billie Joe is freaking hot either. I loved the way he directed the crowd and how he sprinted back and forth and jumped up and down for a whole freaking 2 hours! Also i loved the interviews with Tre and Mike! And most of all i loved the sound! So after that i spent basically the whole weekend looking up anything and everything about them, lol call me obssesed if you must!

I kind of got myself into them.. I had heard a few of their songs from watching music videos and stuff, and decided that I wanted to learn more about them and their music. I looked at a couple of lyric sites and found out that I had heard a lot of their songs growing up like Time Of Your Life and When I Come Around. And my curiousity also brought me to GDA, and GDC :).
