belficat Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 Never seen them live. Thats why I can't wait until their new album is out and they go on tour again (well, one of the reasons.) I've been a fan since, I think early 2005? And my first album was american idiot.

CaesarSalad Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 Hmm. I've been hearing Green Day songs since I was a little girl, but I only became a fan when I heard American Ifiot on the radio during math class in October of 04. So that's when I became a fan. The song just spoke to me, because I was already anti-Bush and I understood what this was all about. I went to the Green Day concert here in May of last year. Best night of my life. I actually got American Idiot, my first Green Day cd in...about February of last year. Shortly after I bought Superhits, then Kerplunk, Dookie, Nimrod and I got Insomniac and Shenanigans for Christmas. Somewhere in between I bought BIAB. Aaaand that's my Green Day life story.

Nicolle Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 Seen them once, last year. Been a fan since 2000 (around then) first album was dookie, then american idiot, then the collection grew. My mom used to play them on TV when i was a kid, and my friend lent me dookie so yeah that's about it really.

willgc Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 Let's see... I've been a fan since August of last year (I was at a real low point in my life and my friend gave me some Green Day songs and I really think they saved my life). I saw them live on October 9th at the Home Depot Center (since then reffered to as the greatest night of my life). And the first actual official (not burned) album I bought was Shenanigans, followed by Dookie, Insomniac and then all the rest...

fashionvictim86 Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 Hrmm...what I have to say... Owner of: GDA Times seen live: 7 June 26, 2001: Asbury Park, NJ May 23, 2002: Hershey, PA October 29, 2004: Philadelphia, PA November 5, 2004: Rochester, NY April 23, 2005: Pittsburgh, PA September 1, 2005: East Rutherford, NJ September 7, 2005: Philadelphia, PA Met Green Day: November 5, 2004 in Rochester, NY Fan Since: 1994
Very Ape Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 I've seen them twice. I've been listening to them for about a year. I'll never forget that day in K-Mart when I bought American Idiot just to see what all the fuss was about. Now I know. Yeah, so I think that explains that American Idiot was my first album of theirs. And here I am now wishing I had started listening to them earlier. But I didn't and I'm ok with that. That's all I guess.
WWJOSD? Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 First Album: Warning. First Album That I Legally Own: American Idiot. Favorite Album: Nimrod. Favorite Song(s): "Hitchin' A Ride," "Basketcase," "Whatsername" Live Performances? Yes. Fresno, CA in October, 2005 Other Random Crap: - I love watching Tre play the drums. His movements are so fluid, and he just...flicks his wrists, as if he's conducting an orchestra. I am truly facsinated by it... - I used to think that "Longview," "Basketcase," and "Welcome to Paradise" were all the same song. - I developed more of an interest in Green Day when I discovered that they were from Berkeley. - I think Tre looks better as a woman than I do... - I first heard of Green Day back in the Nimrod era, but I didn't start listening to them regularly until BOBD came out. While I know American Idiot gets a lot of crap because of the attention that it gets, I honestly think the storyline is brilliant. Everytime I listen to the album, I pick up something new. I also love it's similarity to Plato's Allegory/Analogy of the cave. - I was motivated for a grand total of one day to learn guitar or drums, and immediately lost interest. - I have a cat named Adeline, and I've been toying with the idea of naming one of my geese "Billie".
Liquid-Dookie Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 Hrmm...what I have to say... Brain_Stewed Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 Only been a fan since the beginning of the American Idiot era, so summer 2004, but heard basket case a year or so before and thought the song was brilliant. Then during the summer of 2004 i heard a collection of their older songs on MTV and thought 'holy shit' this band is special, and thought id buy their new album american idiot. After listening to it i began to realise how stupid i was to have missed out on the band during their earlier years, therefore i decided to buy more albums and now i have them all and i love every one. It is also because of Green Day and inparticulary the song 'Longview' that i started playing bass, something i never thought i would ever do or have any talent for and now i am in my own band just because of them. Seen them twice: January 28th 2005 Manchester MEN arena June 19th 2005 MK bowl. Those two days were the best of my life. Favourite album: Hard to choose but probably between American Idiot and Dookie
_GREENDAY_ Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 Ive been trying so hard to remember the first GD song i heard, and all that keeps popping up in my head is, When i come around. So i figured it was that..It was something off DOokie
cazima Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 I've been a fan since dookie came out...once i saw rhe video for basket case i was hooked... never had the chance to see them live so far. but if they ever get to see this i just wanna say to them you guys fuckin rule man thank you...you saved my life!
brain_stew Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 first heard of them: when my brother borrowed Dookie from his friend 8 years ago (i was 10 at the time). i never knew what the band was, i just liked the album. a bit later Blink182 released their Enema of the state and at that time i thought what my bro was listening to before was Blink182! (shame on me..) became a fan: when five years ago i bought Nimrod on sale. i'm not even sure why i bought it. the band name green day sounded familiar and i liked the cover and had a little extra cash. i listened to the album and was hooked! i didn't know anything about them (this was when i was 13) but i checked their discography on the internet and went to a record store to see whether there was any other green day albums. and there was Dookie. you can imagine the shock when i noticed that this is the same band i heard my bro listening to before! well, been a real fan since then. seen GD live: never.. :verymad: but i will if they come within the borders of Europe ever again! amen! favorite album: nimrod the order in which i got their albums: nimrod, dookie, insomniac, warning, AI, kerplunk, shenanigans, 1039. haven't got ISH, i guess i'll buy the dvd. and yeah i also bought BiaB last november favorite song: hitchin' a ride favorite video: walking contradiction fan stuff i own: 1 patch, at least 5 buttons, 1 wristband, 1 grenade pendant, 2 t-shirts and shoelaces . there's maybe some more, but that's all i remember now. oh yeah and the first GD song i ever heard was when i come around!
2_Dollar_Bill Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 I heard Good Riddance on Kerrang! when it was first released. I thought it was good, if a little over-played. I then was introduced to Minority, and I've been a fan since. My favourite album is 1039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours. It just goes to show you how they were more than just a punk band. I was reminded of Chuck Berry in some areas. I like how American Idiot's lyrics have taken a huge leap from those in Warning (Rage and Love is actually from Romeo and Juliet, surprisingly) and I like seeing Billie Joe's song-writing evolve. However, I'm not a fan of how the media are heralding them as if they were the first band to express political views. Brit-punk in the late 70's was especially political. I hope the American Idiot hype dies down a tad, and Billie's song-writing continues to evolve. It'd be nice if the next album was more about everyday things, rather than conceptual. I liked the questions American Idiot posed, and how the story was quite open to debate, meaning something different from person to person. I think it'd be harder to write lyrics for everyday goings on, but I'm sure Billie and the kids will find a way past that. Despite what the majority have said, I hope they don't go back to a Dookie-like sound. I'd rather they'd carry on the way they're going. It'd be awesome if they manage to evolve the sound the same amount as from Warning to American Idiot. I'd also love to hear Cigarrettes and Valentines. Anyway, I'm probably reading into it too much.
