saraHsunshine Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 Yes and No. They are the reason I branched out from the music I grew up listening to which was mostly classic rock, a bit of random pop and country (thanks dad ). Essentially they were my stepping stone into the wonderful mix of music I listen to today
keefe Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 Green Day is the band that turned me into actually listening to music, before it would have been compilation cds like Big Shiny Tunes and stuff on YTV
Jaymee!! Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 Backstreet Boys were my first favourite band. You tell me if they changed my music taste.
gdpony Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 of course! the first cd I ever bought was a Britney Spears one, and my second album was warning , so yeah
Miss Hedgie Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 I think Green Day did change my musical taste but I think Muse got their first and took me into the whole alternative world. That and Marilyn Manson But I think Green Day got me into more punk and punk rock. So all in all good times.
ganis Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 before I got into GD i listened to the music everyone listened to, what was played at the radio, like Britany Spears, or whatever was popular when I was 12ish... but when I got into GD after I heard Holiday on the radio I started exploring alternative music, and now I'm all in for punk, pop punk, and rock
Guest Whatsername95 Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 Yes. Before I started listening to GD, I listened to all this mainstream stuff on the radio and things like that. But now I'm completely into rock music (and into Green Day for sure )
Kayfabe Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 Well pretty much. I used to listen to whatever was in the top ten (and now I despise charts of any kind, errh). But now my musical taste is green day so
Comedy & Tragedy Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 Definitely. Before discovering Green Day, I listened to mostly Avril Lavigne, and I might have taken an interest in other pop stars that came along. After that, I realized how much I love music that's honest, and isn't written by songwriters that write about stuff that doesn't mean shit to anyone. Slowly but surely, I started following my brother's music tastes, and started discovering bands by myself, like The Ramones, Nirvana, The Clash and others.
Mrs. Nobody Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 Not really.. I used to listen to old rock, even as a youngster
klytaemnestra Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 yup, completely. i got into green day when i was like nine so i was listening to whatever was on top of the pops that week, but after i got into green day i started youtube hopping through their videos and i discovered other bands like mcr and blink green day also got me new friends and stuff who introduced me to more music.
GreenDayisAmazing Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 Umm not really I used to like alot of 80's rock, but I still do. Then I liked a little bit on pop because I wanted to like what everyone else did. Then my dad stared to listen more to new rock 90's and up so thats mostly what I like now as well as the old stuff!!!
.:Whatsername:. Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 I suppose they did. I just said in the Life Before Green Day thread that I was listening to a lot of Hilary Duff and rap music before I discovered Green Day ( ) but I have to say, if I had never found an interest in Green Day I think I would have ended up liking rock type music anyway. My dad is a huge heavy metal fan and I just think I would have figured out that I liked it more eventually, or I would have found another band to love like Green Day.
Thomas-L Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 I didn't really have any musical taste, Green Day got me into music.
Izzard Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 no. I've grown up with hearing Green Day, U2, The Doors, Kiss, The Beetles, Manson, and Nirvana ect. ... all very different bands but I've liked them my entire life. So I think Green day have just added to it...not really changed it. I was sort of raised on rock n roll.
Jenny95 Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 no. I've grown up with hearing Green Day, U2, The Doors, Kiss, The Beetles, Manson, and Nirvana ect. ... all very different bands but I've liked them my entire life. So I think Green day have just added to it...not really changed it. I was sort of raised on rock n roll. Yeahh I also grew up with bands like this but without Green Day and they were the first ones who really got me into music before that I liked music but I didn't love it like I do now
Just Kate Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 before i started to listen to Green Day i used to listen to crap like techno, rap, hip hop, reggae, disco and shit. all at once. now just to hear first notes of these i'm changin the music or the channel or whatever, i just can't, it makes me i hate it. i really do... i never stopped liking oldies and 80's though, just started to listen to rock classics some more.
†...HAUSHINKA...† Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 absolutely yes...they opened to me music's world...I start loving music thanks to them so thy influenced totally my tastes...
Sarah.Scumbag Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 Yeah, they did, I used to listen to a lot of pop and rave and whatever else was considered "normal" then Green Day came along and I started to get into my dads music which I always liked, but never really cared for.
Alllllli. Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 Not too much. I think I listened to stuff like Operation Ivy before I got really into Green Day! They made me listen to some different stuff - wider listening, I guess - but my taste didn't change too much.
madddie Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 They made me listen to some different stuff - wider listening, I guess - but my taste didn't change too much. Exactly this
Juliette Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 Nahh not really, I still listen to a pretty varied selection of music, and I wouldn't really say that liking Green Day made me listen to any bands I wouldn't have otherwise. Apart from like phgp, network etc.
Slappypunk Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 i hate so say this but i use to be all into rap music then i heard Green Day and now i hate rap lol they opened up the doors into punk rock for me
Isabel Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 Well, I listened to bands like Foo Fighters, The Offspring, Blink 182 and quite a lot of pop music before I started listening to Green Day...but if it wasn't for Green Day then I wouldn't have even known about amazing bands like Rancid, Screeching Weasel, The Ramones, Operation Ivy, The Riverdales, The Dead Kennedys, The Queers, etc.
leacalifornia Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 I'll admit that I had a couple -I guess you could call them- "musical phases" in my life... when I was introduced to Green Day though I loved it right away and the more Green Day music I found, I was surprised to find I loved all of it. After I had found and listened to all their stuff I started discovering other bands linked to them that I really loved ie Jimmy Eat World, The Clash, Operation Ivy and so on... I think everyone is born with a musical taste and I dont like to say they changed my taste so much as they helped me find it.
