Harriet Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 I think my entire family would like Green Day a little more if I stopped going on about them...My little sister likes them, my brother hates them, and my mum and dad are kinda meh about them.My big sister sometimes borrows Stop Drop and Roll!!! she calls it the "Green Day pretending to be someone else" album..
Soo Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 My mum likes quite a few of their songs but mostly the calmer ones. When I put 21CB on in the car the other day, she actually realised it was a new album, she was like "oh, I don't know these ones!" So all the old songs must be going into her subconsious mind!! She refers to Billie as "the nice looking one with the dark eyes!" Don't think my dad is fussed one way or the other, though I don't think he would be impressed with the amount of swearing that Billie does! I remember a few years ago when the GD TOTP special was on, he announced that it was so good that he was definitely going to go to their next gig with me!! Thankfully, he seems to have fogotten this though!!
Heather! Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 My dad used to be a hippie; he's really into the Grateful Dead, Allman Brothers, etc. Mom likes the Beatles and Bob Dylan quite a bit.. neither is too keen on my kind of music :/ Although my mom is coming to the Blink concert with me (she has lawn seats and I've pit ticket) so I'll have to ask her afterward what she thinks, haha.
Chelsea Hotel Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 I'm into: Green Day (duh), The Clash, The Replacements, The Ramones, Violent Femmes, The Rolling Stones, The Modern Lovers, Elvis Costello (including all his wacky side projects), Patti Smith, Radiohead, The Mountain GoatsThey're into: Billy Joel, Cat Stevens, Elton John, Roy Orbison, Celtic music, classical, Pink Floyd, Fleetwood Mac, mostly sixties and seventies musicWe all like: The BeatlesBut I have to give my dad credit: He saw Elvis Costello open for Frank Zappa in 1977. He says he was about three feet from the stage, and at one point managed to yell up at Elvis, "You rock!" and Elvis answered, "Thanks!"My mom saw Harry Chapin in concert once. Dad wins.
MascaraTears Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 i've gotten my mom into them, although she only has a few songs on her ipod like misery, viva la gloria?, a few others... mainly the stuff that doesn't sound like "typical" green day, actually...but I do have to give her credit for a lot of my musical tastes and my love for music... she's been playing music around the house constantly for my whole life. she has REALLY eclectic musical tastes... but she's introduced me to the Dave matthews band, warren zevon, some african music, and U2, among others.
lobob92345 Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 My parents both enjoy Green Day, and so does my Step Dad...My mom likes FBH better than Green Day I think, but Billie Joe is her favorite of the 3 guys. XDI'm glad my whole family enjoys Green Day because it makes my life much easier when I slip into fandom mode and need people to geek out with.
Mar Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 My mom LOVES American Idiot. For some reason she decided to grab it from my CD player and brought it into the car one day and she grew to like it. So, we know every word to that CD, and like me, she's starting to really get into 21CB (a bit of a slow burn for me). She doesn't like many of their older songs (International Superhits is too "weird" for her, haha), but I like that we share a love for AI!
MassHysteria Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 My mom decided last week that she wants to come with me to see them in SLC, but she wants to be in the seats, not GA, so I guess she'll have fun up there alone, lol. She tells me she just really likes Billie's voice.
madswester Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 my parents likes wierd music sometimes. but my dad likes green day, so we listen to that when we are alone:D
Jesus*Of*Suburbia Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 This is sort of funny. My father hates my music and can't understand why I never GREW out of Green Day. He sat down with me one day a while back and watched the Bullet in a Bible dvd with me and when it was over his reaction shocked me. He said they were fucking awesome preformers that can put on one hell of a good show and even though he doesn't listen to them much he would def attend one of their concerts.
tvrman Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 These threads make me feel old - hey I still feel young (LOL). My mum likes Jazz, but then she was in a Jazz band in the 1950s. She is not into Green Day - but as she is approaching 80, she is forgiven. My children and I all like Green Day, though obviously there are bands that we do not agree on. Although I have been to concerts with my wife, she is not into Green Day.tvrman
Green Day 13 Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 my parents both like GD but not as much as me im sure. my dad has been a fan since Kerplunk or Dookie ive been a fan sice American idiot and i still have more songs than my dad! my dad like most of the bands i do but even though my mom likes GD she doesnt like most of the music my dad and i like. she likes 70s music and stuff like that that i hate. we all hate rap and hip hop though. my grammy even likes a few GD songs! shes 60 something years old she only likes a few but hey not many people in their 60s like rock/punk music. She tells me she just really likes Billie's voice.hahaha mine too!
Wolfdemon Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 Extremely different. My parents hate my music and I hate their music. Though there is a few we agree on.My dad claims to like GD though I have a feeling he's just saying that to get me to like him.. And my mom likes some of their songs.
Green Day 13 Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 My parents are too big of fans of Green Day but I know my dad likes the song Good Riddance =Pmy dad doesnt like Good Riddance i dont know why though. :/
Andy17 Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 Not only do my parents like Green Day, but my teachers and so love them too
Drew Holiday Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 Me and my dad have the exact same taste in music. In fact, he is the one coming with me to Orlando so we can see the band, he is as pumped up as me, he has been listening to nothing but 21CB so he can get familiar with newer stuff.
Chelsea Hotel Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 Addendum to my last post: My mom took me to MSG last night, and on the way home she was gushing about what a great show it was, and how perfectly everything was timed, and how much energy they all had, and how it was so obvious they were thrilled to be there, and so on. Oh, and she was hoping to hear "Wake Me Up When September Ends." But she thought it was called "When September Comes," or something.
dolce Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 My dad and I have such similar taste in music, it's almost scary. But it's way better then the stereotypical parent going "Turn that noise down!!!" He is a huge music lover and really respects the music I like, even if it's not something he's crazy about. He loves GD, though. My mom... is more complicated. She does really love GD's music. Good Riddance is one of her all-time favorite songs. My thing with her is, though - I really get the feeling like she doesn't understand why I like them. She thinks I listen to their music because I have a crush on Billie, and I mean, I do, but - I also very deeply respect him as an artist, and the whole band as amazing musicians. I love Billie's style of songwriting. I love how amazing the guys are on stage. I love how great they all are to their families - she just doesn't get that. And when I try to explain this, she just smirks and goes "Oh, okay." It's frustrating, so I kind of just have tried to avoid talking about them with her all together. Sometimes she'll be like "So, have you ever seen an interview of them?" OMG, that's laughable. If she only knew how much time I've invested in this band over the years...
Blueisme Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 My mom and I like the same music and she takes me to a Green Day concert this year.
drumstick Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 My mom and I like the same music and she takes me to a Green Day concert this year.yeah. same here. I'm going with her and my friend on their concert. and gosh....my mom's so excited hahashe's talking about it allmost every day
Drew Holiday Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 On the contrary, my mother hates my musical taste. But she sings along to BOBD and WMUWSE.
Sara. Posted July 30, 2009 Posted July 30, 2009 My dad thinks they are ok aguess, he hasen't said very much about them My mum loves ONLY slow songs, and she has heard some GD songs like WMUWSE, Last night on earth, Good Riddance, Restless heart syndrom and the beginning of !viva la gloria! ...and now she loves GD
LetItBeHappy Posted July 30, 2009 Posted July 30, 2009 I recently discovered that my father LOVED The Beatles too And me and my mom have almost the same likes... She likes Green Day now because of me. I was listening to 21 guns and she started to sing along xD and she always reads Billie Joe's interviews on the Rolling Stone, and she said that he's a very intelligent guy (and she also admitted that Mike is the hotter)
