Fiona? Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 Boulevard of Broken Dreams. I had no clue who Green Day were, and I was just listening to the radio when the song came on. I was thinking, "Hey, I like this!" I thought it was pretty catchy, and after about a week, I knew all the lyrics. Then I began to wonder what the story was behind the song. I later discovered that it was part of a rock opera and a concept album by a band called "Green Day." I looked up Green Day online (this was just after the release of BIAB) and I discovered the songs "Holiday", "American Idiot", and "Jesus of Suburbia." That Christmas, I got my first Cd: American Idiot. For my birthday the next year, I got the album Dookie. In 2009, after I bought 21st Century Breakdown, I saw Green Day live at the Times Union Center in Albany, New York, and THEY BLEW MY MIND. Soon after, I purchased the rest of Green Day's albums, joined GDC, saw St. Billie on Broadway, and discovered punk rock. All thanks to track 4 on the greatest concept album ever produced.
Guest EDIT Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 Boulevard of Broken Dreams was the first song I ever heard and actually liked. I was about 7 I think and when my father was watching the morning news they had a quick thing about how it was selling so well or some record on the billboard charts, I don't know, but they said it was from Green Day's American Idiot album, that is when I started to try and find more Green Day. My dad was a high school teacher that many of his students would do small favors for and give him gifts hoping he would boost their grades, so when I told him about Green Day he asked if anyone had a CD or something by them that they didn't want. Three days later he brought home a burned heavily used scratched Warning CD that a kid gave him, when I first heard it I thought "Wait this is not American Idiot or Green Day!" but I kept listening to it over and over and begin to love it, it was a blessing in disguise because other wise I would have never given the older stuff a chance. Soon my cousins started playing parts of Dookie and I became hooked on Green Day and about that time my father was becoming addicted to illegal downloading and downloaded some more albums for me and burned them to CDs, and he screwed a bunch, such as not having Burnout on Dookie and repeating She's a Rebel on American Idiot, but I just loved everything I heard! After a while I had listened to 1,039 / Smoothed Out Slappy Hours, Kerplunk!, Dookie, Insomniac, Nimrod, Warning, American Idiot, and Transmissions. I didn't have any actual CDs because my father thought it was stupid to pay for something you can download, but I didn't get the full picture of the albums because he would leave out many songs. I kept listening to them more and more, partly because my parents would always be screaming and arguing with each other and often take it out on me, and the music was pretty much the only thing that cheered me up and made me feel better. It was very detrimental for me as a kid to be treated that way and I was very angry that I could not do anything about it, the music had so much pent up aggression that I could relate to and helped me through those hard times, Green Day are my heroes and I hope one day my parents or I'll find a way to see Green Day live or meet them. I now have an actual GD cd collection with a bunch of rare stuff and am still huge fan! Thank you if you took the time to read my short story of how I became a fan.
x_Letterbomb_x Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 The first song I ever heard was Good Riddance, I LOVED it but never listened to more of their music. The song that made me a GD addict was BOBD<3333
Carolina Nimrod Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 I saw the video of American Idiot on TV when it came out. I was like 12 and my taste in music wasn't the best... Until I discovered them After that I just couldn't stop listening to Green Day. Though I wish I could have discovered them before. I should have been born listening to them! lol.
StarKiller Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 I saw the video premiere to Know Your Enemy and I was like "nothing to loose with buying this album". So i bought 21st CB and American Idiot along with it. After a couple of days of listening to them I really got into Green Day. My father owns Dookie and Insomniac so I had a listen. From this point on I fuckin' loved Green Day. Maybe one of the most significant decisions of my life
Mary711 Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 For me, it was American Idiot. I heard it on the radio and was like 'Mom, I want this. NOW!! '
Stanzie Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 Going To Pasalacqua. My older cousin was playing the cd while he was trying to get together a party playlist when I was 9 or 10.
Ilda_25 Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 I can't remember but the first song I listened to was Boulevard of Broken Dreams or Wake me up when September ends. Probably, on the radio... Because when American Idiot was released, those were the two songs played all the time here. I also remember that my brother copy Boulevard of Broken Dreams to my computer, and I was addicted to that song at that time. But it was only two years ago, with the release of 21st Century Breakdown and specially with 21 Guns that I started wondering that I might like this band. I keep on searching, finding out how amazing they are, and now I'm here
AwesomeAsFudge Posted April 14, 2011 Posted April 14, 2011 the first Green Day song i heard was American Idiot, my cousin showed it to me on YouTube when i was 12 or 11 so i didn't understand any word, but i got blown away by the music and the video
alex666 Posted April 15, 2011 Posted April 15, 2011 My first Green Day song that i heard was When I Come Around. It was Christmas in 2004 i think. I heard this song and can't stop listenig it.
WestboundSign! Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 I think the first song I've ever heard was Basket Case. My dad always listened to it when I was a little child.
Danger! Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 Before I was a huge fan, my dad had Warning on his computer. My only problem about that was that when it said artist, it said unknown so I didn't know it was GD. But in sixth grade American Idiot came out and thats when I fell in love with them.
Class.of.13 Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 I'm not ashamed to say it - 21 Guns. Man, seeing the AI cast perform it at the VMAs (whatever it was) ... pure, unadulterated awesomeness. But when i looked up 21 Guns on Youtube, I got scared to death by the music video. (i am ashamed of the fact that i thought Green Day looked creepy and ugly though. I don't anymore, but still. X_X) So ... not a fan yet. Then a year or two passed and i watched Surf's Up and fell in love with Welcome to Paradise and Holiday. I noticed the artist name, and the rest is history.
Kristen M Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 My brother was excited for 21cb to come out so I was listening to album leaks with him (I only knew the radio hits)..... So 21st century breakdown was the song that made me become a fan
Red Lights Flash Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 I remember seeing American Idiot on TV and thinking "this is it!". So I ran to the computer, listened to some other songs by them and I was hooked.
KerplunkJOS Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 21 guns, I was too young to understand american idiot when it came out so I only just became a fan 2 years ago, but after I heard 21 guns on the radio I kind of searched up everything about them and got into the older stuff
Cre Tool. Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 it was Boulevard. at first i thought it sucked, and then i heard it like, 2 or 3 times and then i fell in love with it xD. lol, silly me!
PennyHorrible17 Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 it was Boulevard. at first i thought it sucked, and then i heard it like, 2 or 3 times and then i fell in love with it xD. lol, silly me! haha that was my impression of it at first too. the first Green Day song I heard was 2000 Light Years Away. I was 3. it was pretty life changing I think. hard to say since I was only 3, but it's what made me love music.
AvengedVampyre Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 I think the first Green Day track I heard was St Jimmy because it was the first video of theirs I saw. But I'm not too sure. Instantly loved it of course <3
Moyeszet Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 My first Green Day song was Wake me up when september ends on the radio. I was 8 or 9, i didn't listen very well, but it was written in my brain. I liked that. But i didnt know it was Green Day. When i discovered them i listened WMUWSE, but got hook with Redundant, wich i just discovered while lookin through the discography. I fell in love with this music till that point. Never got hook by any music till then yeah Never heard of Green day before beacause i'm french and here we gotta let like 40% of the Radio to french music wich sucks actually. And France is fan of shitty english music, particulary autotuned music. Anyway no TV show to see them, there's not french MTV, and like i said radio sucks.
Yongguk's Big Dick Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 First song definitely Holiday It just *SPOKE* to me i know it sound weird, but like when i heard that song i didnt even know that it was Green Day xD And i looked it up on the net and found more about them I fell in love with their music after listening to Holiday and to this day its still one of my favorite songs in the world
