Dead and Bloated Posted June 30, 2007 Posted June 30, 2007 This whole "New" and "Old" thing is ridiculous. The band makes one bad album, and it's called the "New Green Day"?I still like the band, but their last album was bad. That's it. There's no "New", and there's no "Old".
MrGreenDayUK Posted June 30, 2007 Posted June 30, 2007 ^Exactly.(EDIT: American Idiot is NOT a bad album, it's just cool to say it is)Has anyone noticed though, that the lyrics on Kerplunk! were pretty mature and had a lot of meaning (No One Knows, One Of My Lies, Words I Might Have Ate) then they seemed to 'de-mature' going into Dookie and started writing songs about masturbation? Not criticising, just think it's interesting!

There's no "New", and there's no "Old".Yeah, i agree, like any other band, every CD is slightly different...slightly better, as you learn more and grow as a musician and writer and such. American Idiot is incredible (whether you like it or not, it is musically brilliant, theres only a few songs i like on there), dookie is simply about growing up and masturbating blah blah blah, but the guys grew up. Like any other band you listen to, the first album is usually so different from the latest album. Every green day album gets better and better as they grow, theres no old and new, its just people change and get more mature with time (Obviously).[sorry if i rambled and that didn't make any sense, just really tired. But you get the jist?]
rootbeersoup Posted June 30, 2007 Posted June 30, 2007 I'm only saying this because it supposedly makes me look cool: I like the older stuff.
Relavar Posted June 30, 2007 Posted June 30, 2007 I said the people who say that and don't actually even know dookie.
rootbeersoup Posted June 30, 2007 Posted June 30, 2007 I said the people who say that and don't actually even know dookie.I think everyone in the world has met dookie.
Relavar Posted June 30, 2007 Posted June 30, 2007 I'm pretty sure your going to find kids who are on the floor, and Green Day plays longview, and they don't even know what there playing.
rootbeersoup Posted June 30, 2007 Posted June 30, 2007 I'm pretty sure your going to find kids who are on the floor, and Green Day plays longview, and they don't even know what there playing.I was making a clever turn of phrase, saying that everyone in the world takes a shit. But to reply to your statement, I highly doubt anyone actually says their older stuff is cool without actually listening to it. Yeah, they got people who have never heard the older stuff, but I don't think they'd lie about listening to it.Now people can hear AI and say they like Green Day without listening to their older stuff, but then you'd just be making the assumption that they heard the older stuff.

greendaycrzy Posted June 30, 2007 Posted June 30, 2007 Oh my gosh its a no comparison old Green Day. 1000 percent wayy better, yeah American Idiot was good...and it did get them noticed but is music really about being notcied? and only one song on there album was really political...thats it, how can u take two cds that transformed an amazing band into mainstream sell outs (with all do respect, ok, Green Day is of of my favotie bands im not like trying to insult them but its true, think about it. as soon as American Idiot came out they started wearing a suit and the same damn outfit everyday with their eyeliner and what not) to old Green Day, when their music was about their life and growing up, ya know things that their listeners (kids) can actually relate to. man i miss it so much. but please dont give me crap, i love American Idiot i just dont respect it as much because they worked their asses of for more than 16 years coming out with awesome albums that changed the view of punk music for the better and as soon as they change their look after being gone for so long and they come out with one good song they start getting noticed by little kids who think they are punk when they have no idea about what punk really is. it opened a lot of doors for confused children i think. but although i did talk trash i still love Green Day with all my heart and even if their next cd does the same thing ill still be here cuz well i just will, cuz they are good musicians...and American Idiot is a good album...just not as good as like 10/39 or insomniac..or dookie or warning and all the rest ya know?yeah
Relavar Posted June 30, 2007 Posted June 30, 2007 They never sold out.Whats wrong with all of a sudden wearing eyeliner and suits? It's what they wanted to do.That's like saying, you faggot, you all of a sudden like to wear a tie every once in awhile. You sold out! What the fuck? How does that make them sell outs?
netty Posted June 30, 2007 Posted June 30, 2007 the guys have had "little kids" falling in love with them for the way they look since day one. thats what you get when guys get up on stage in front of hormonal girls. as for the eye liner..... they have been doing that, and the suits for years as well. simple fact of the matter is.... the early albums say more to you right now as you are at an age when those early songs mean more to you than the later, so called more mature songs do. I`ve listened to the older songs. insomniac, dookie... yeah I like those. 1039/smoothed.... kerplunk... nope. I dont hate them, but they say less than the later albums. as to opening peoples eyes about what punk is? I couldnt give a flying fig about punk. when it started first time round... or what goes for punk now. I`m secure enough not to have to try and prove to others that I fit in with some cliche that has been going around almost as long as I have.
rootbeersoup Posted June 30, 2007 Posted June 30, 2007 Eyeliner = uncoolAs far as wearing suits, I mean, I guess it's cool every now and then, but I like to see Green Day play a show in T-shirts. Maybe if they didn't make them like their uniforms, I'd be more accepting of it.
Relavar Posted June 30, 2007 Posted June 30, 2007 Eyeliner = uncoolWhats so wrong about wearing eyeliner?Who gives a care?
rootbeersoup Posted June 30, 2007 Posted June 30, 2007 Whats so wrong about wearing eyeliner?Who gives a care?Call me crazy, but I guess I'm just not big on men wearing eyeliner.
Relavar Posted June 30, 2007 Posted June 30, 2007 Call me crazy, but I guess I'm just not big on men wearing eyeliner.Eh I don't call you crazy for that. Some people think it's gay.I don't, in fact i use to wear it.But most guys who do, look really stupid.
greendaycrzy Posted June 30, 2007 Posted June 30, 2007 They never sold out.Whats wrong with all of a sudden wearing eyeliner and suits? It's what they wanted to do.That's like saying, you faggot, you all of a sudden like to wear a tie every once in awhile. You sold out! What the fuck? How does that make them sell outs?ok seriously, calm down.what they wear is part of an image and to me that has nothing to do with music, i mean were their suits and make up really necessary to Green Day? i dont think so... they have sold out to ME. ur not me so relax a little bit, i didnt say i hated them...or that they suck, so i dont know what the big deal is. if i think they sold out but i still listen to them because i think they are good at what they do then why does it matter? how does that concern u? are u in the band? pretty sure ur not so..why would u care if i say what i think. its my opinion i dont see where ur comments come in.wasnt this thread about what u thought was better? yeah and i told u and i told u my reasons.ok...lol wownow u go.
Relavar Posted June 30, 2007 Posted June 30, 2007 ok seriously, calm down.what they wear is part of an image and to me that has nothing to do with music, i mean were their suits and make up really necessary to Green Day? i dont think so... they have sold out to ME. ur not me so relax a little bit, i didnt say i hated them...or that they suck, so i dont know what the big deal is. if i think they sold out but i still listen to them because i think they are good at what they do then why does it matter? how does that concern u? are u in the band? pretty sure ur not so..why would u care if i say what i think. its my opinion i dont see where ur comments come in.wasnt this thread about what u thought was better? yeah and i told u and i told u my reasons.ok...lol wownow u go.I was never mad?I was simply responding to you.Just because you gave an opinion, you can't expect somebody not to disagree with what you said.Sure, they sold out in your eyes, and my question was, how?Is that a crime in asking? You don't have to in there band for you to care about them.& to your image remark, the band is never about the image. What, because they wear suits? They have for a long time. There music does not reflect there image, in any way, whatsoever.I would love to here your root to how there only about there image.
greendaycrzy Posted July 1, 2007 Posted July 1, 2007 no i understand that. and i know that billie mostly wore a suit shirt and tie....but thats what it is see, wearing a whole suit...especially the whole band and crew makes it an image because thats how people see Green Day now, if it wasnt an image then u wouldnt see people trying to dress up like Green Day... i mean way back when u couldnt do that because they wore clothes like every other person ya know? a shirt and pants..but now u see kids and adults wearing the black suit shirt and red ties with the black pants and stuff like that, thats what i mean by image.and i knew people would dissagree thats why i explained myself when i said i wasnt trying to trash them, cuz i love em.and i thought u were trying to like start something so yeah....sry if i was mean lol*shrug* oops
Relavar Posted July 1, 2007 Posted July 1, 2007 I don't start anything with anyone, besides John. But thats off topic.& yes i know you would see people with there outfits on.But every other band has an image too.Is everyone a sellout because of there image?
netty Posted July 1, 2007 Posted July 1, 2007 fans have dressed like the band for years. Billie has done the shirt and tie thing for ages. especially the red tie. just look at the older videos. they might not have been high fashion suits, but they did wear things that werent the norm. its not the bands fault that the fans are sheep like in showing their so called "devotion" by wearing the same clothes. buying oodles of merch, wearing the same clothes or whatever else, doenst make you a better or bigger fan.
penutt Posted July 1, 2007 Posted July 1, 2007 I don't start anything with anyone, besides John. But thats off topic.& yes i know you would see people with there outfits on.But every other band has an image too.Is everyone a sellout because of there image?gd arent sell outs becuz of the way they dress. but they are sell outs.
Relavar Posted July 1, 2007 Posted July 1, 2007 What do they have to wear to make them not sell outs?I'll call them up and say hey wear a T-shirt and jeans from now on.
greendaycrzy Posted July 1, 2007 Posted July 1, 2007 im sorry but honestly if u took some of the people who only know Green Day by American Idiot and put the in a room and put on a really old cd and played a song, i bet they would recognize Billies red tie first before they could identify the song, there is something wrong with that...to me anywayand the answer to ur question. when any band represents themselves with the clothes they wear or how they look instead of just giving their fans who they are like not careing what they look like, you have sold out. im not saying they have completly exploded into sell outs but still.
