kerplunked!
Ok, don't get me wrong, I love the American Idiot album, it's a great record, but the whole 'old' and 'new' Green Day thing, I'd say I prefer the 'old' Green Day. For a start, wtf is up with the eyeliner! Also, why do they need people like Jason White and Jason Freese now? They managed for 16 years as a trio! TnT--I-Heart-You
I've tried to stay away from posting in here but these threads are really starting to piss me off. I love Green Day old & new. They've always been great, amazing & I really think they always will be, with all that they do.I kinda see where some people are coming from when they say they wish it was still like the "old" Green Day, but why? They've grown as people & in their music why would you not want that ? By the way having Jason White, Jason Freeze, Ronnie Blake & Mike Pelino with them playing is because the songs (some songs) call for a extra guitar piece or some piano ect. That doesn't mean they aren't still Green Day because they are, they're just playing more complicated songs & on such a large scale...Eyeliner...I don't know what started it, I like it though Someone said before that they liked GD before the "uniforms", American Idoit was/is a more mature/serious album, I think it kind of reflects into the more dressy clothes. (which I like also not that I don't love a T-shirt too...) It kind of shows that they've grown up some too.

Acadia
well, i think both are good. but i like the way billie's voice sounded when he was younger where it sounded really english but the new green day is what got me hooked on the old green day. in my opinion, i think they sound better either way. Radioactive1
I haven't ready 13 pages of this, I haven't got the time or patience. But meh! I guess it's what you personally define Old or New Green Day.I prefer both. I do like how the new Green Day seem more content and happy with themselves as opposte to maybe 7 years ago when they were putting on brave faces but musically I prefer the older songs. But like it's probably been said they've grown up and their image and everything have grown up with them. arian
It sorta makes me sad sometimes that they have "grown up". I mean I love thinking of them as bratty little kids, jokers. I mean I think its great they have matured and stuff, but I just miss the old Green Day sometimes. I dunno. I hate giving my opinions on stuff. ghostshipgirl
haha i like them both. Really, i can only see 3 diffrences between them.1) they got older....(and forgive my inner teenie, hotter...)2) they got more political3) they get more overplayedalthough i wish i could seen them back when they were still 16 year old punks.of course, i wish i could see them period... don't_leave_me
old is more agressive which i like but the new im so proud of them they've matured but will also miss the old so fucking much but they are still so fucking gooooooooooooooood to listen to
beth hardy
I imagine when Nimrod came out in '97 there were fans thinking the same thing; "I miss the old Green Day".Well, I'm sure some of you wouldn't mind if Green Day returned to how they were during the Nimrod era. i'd prefer doing what they are doing now,or go back to the 'dookie' days...but i think Green Day is Green Day, it doesn't matter old or new...just like if they sold out or not...its the same fucking band...get over it.. Hugo?
I've been thinking about the sad truth about American Idiot. Green Day lost a lot of fans when they released it. Mostly because the band members grew older..started wearing eyeliner and wrote totally different songs then before. Most fans loved the punkrock music but was ready to throw up when they heard 'wake me up..'. Almost the same thing happened to Metallica. They starting in the 80's and played really hard rock like 'Master of the puppets' and so on. When they released 'Black Album' in 1995 including rock ballads like 'nothing else matters' and 'the unforgiven' they lost fans like green day did. I heard someone say: "James Hetfield sings the songs like country-songs..metallica are dead to me".Personally i love green day at the '39/smooth and kerplunk! age as much as nimrod-age and american idiot. But i honestly think green day were funnier back then but whatever if too fond of their style to stop liking them because they change "style". Therefore i feel a little sorry for metallica who didnt change anything they just did awesome ballads that appeared"gay" to many people.what are your thoughts? Do you like green day as much now as before?please post!/hugo
