Fuzz Posted December 22, 2005 Author Posted December 22, 2005 im sure theyre kinda trying to be polite, but do you think its a strange coincidence that they layed off ALL those people within a few days of the green day pulling their records? and its more then just lookout, think about all the east bay bands now that dont have a prayer cus they dont have anyone thatll sign em. Obviously that hurt them. But what they were saying was that the buisness was fucked before hand, thats why Green Day pulled the records. It's not like Lookout! was a healthy record company and then all of a sudden got hurt because GD left.
Prosthetic Head Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 They don't need all the attention that they are drawing to themselves. Their music is amazing and always will be, that is not the issue, but what i am trying to say is why can't they be succesful as a result of their music being amazing, its hard to put across what i am trying to say and i am kinda contradicting myslef now...
WWJOSD? Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 even lawrence livermore said somewhere (i can't find where) that he didn't blame green day for taking the records of lookout! and that he would have done it sooner had he been in their position According to an article I read in which he was interviewed, Lawrence Livermore left Lookout! because of the financial problems within the label

I understand what you mean. And I agree
tomrox Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 I understand what you mean. And I agree thats kind of what i was trying to say earlier, but im not very good with words (as you probably guessed)
mclaren Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 well a lot of it is the natural backlash from being so huge. it's their own fault too though. i mean, you turn on every single award show or event and green day's there. the passive fans are naturally going to get sick of that.
WWJOSD? Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 No, it's not a coincidence. Like I said before, Green Day was keeping Lookout's head above water, just barely. It was something that needed to be done, because Lookout would have been (just barely) surviving; making no progress or going under. By pulling their catalog, Greed Green Day (oops!) was forcing Lookout to get their finances in order. Just think of it as tough love... BTW, I'm pretty sure that Lookout is not the only indie label in the bay area *cough*Adeline*cough*...

But do you honestly think that if green day didn't have the "looks" they would do as well with their music (and the big popuality rise of ai) I mean their not that great looking to me . But now it's about looks aswell as the music. People are shallow, that's why you get people who say "omg billy jo is sooooo hawt" and all that crap.
annie Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 By pulling their catalog, Greed Day was forcing Lookout to get their finances in order. Just think of it as tough love... LOL, I wasn't sure if that was a typo or intentional...
ArmatageShanks39 Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 and i just want to enforce that i dont think anyone here is "dissing on them", theyre just promoting it too much. i agree with what i think prosthetic head was trying to say. the sex pistols and the ramones have never won anything, and didnt promote the shit outta themselves, but theyre great. (btw, all the ramones merch didnt start happening till after they died/quit)
Peter. Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 All PR is good PR is an famous saying in Swedish media

dookiehead Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 seeling out is when a band starts to care more about the money than the music. this has happened to warner, but it hasn't happened to green day. green day haven't sold out. warner are an international corporation, so they can't really have sold out. no one sold out.
CarolsDayParade Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 according to me......they're so full of shit.........green day worst band??? oh my god........that's a very stupid thing
WWJOSD? Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 LOL, I wasn't sure if that was a typo or intentional... It was a typo. But I fixed it
Hannah. Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 Who cares if they're sellouts? Who cares what a bunch of snotty brats think of them? Who cares how popular they are? They're a kick ass band. End of story.

annie Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 i dont think Warner was ever into it for the music. I don't think any major record companies are.

Now 11 year old girls wear their shirts and praise crotch shots of Billie.
WWJOSD? Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 All PR is good PR is an famous saying in Swedish media There are two similar sayings here in the US: "There's no such thing as bad publicity" "The only bad publicity, is no publicity"
Peter. Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 There are two similar sayings here in the US: "There's no such thing as bad publicity" "The only bad publicity, is no publicity" Well i guess Sweden has only translated it into Swedish then

Now 11 year old girls wear their shirts and praise crotch shots of Billie. What I mean is, why should we care? As long as they keep making good music, that's okay, right? Fuck what anyone else says. I get shit all the time for liking Green Day, I just ignore it. After all, it's only music. I just don't see why people make such a big deal over it.

I'm serious it's a way to protest and show big emotions too, it's popular culture.
ArmatageShanks39 Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 what im thinking about the whole selling out thing....it doesnt have to be money. thats no concern, cus even their low point at warning they were probly making an insane amount of money. but they MIGHT want fame, and to be worshipped, and pay to big stadiums, for some kind of satisfaction in their careers. anyway, is anyone eles getting the feeling that its billie joe thats interested in fame and everything more than mike and tre?
