Billie himself said it was inspired by Teenage Fanclub and The Pretenders. If you are not up to speed on TF, they are one of the best jangle pop bands of all time (been around since the early 90s and are still making music and touring today). It’s my favorite song to listen to. It may not be the one I want to hear at shows the most, yet but it, more so than others shows a side of them and B’s writing that hasn’t really been done before and it can take him (and therefore me) into his older age. This is a good car song. Yeah they have a bunch of them like MDP but this one hits that GD spot while staying remaining and chill and while for sure at a show I want to lose my shit, I’m listening to them more at home and driving then while knocking you little people on your arses … This song to me might be the not sure how distant Green Day. Just a thought. It’s also just an awesome old old school song that sounds like Billies favorite breaks and progressions from the 50s and 60s and turn them into whatever he wants (all of the boys, Jason too because he does usually write the solos).
