Vulture interview with Billie Joe

@pacejunkie punk I find that really interesting too. It makes the song all the more powerful that it was written while actively engaging with the addiction. Who knows exactly what point it was written, but it certainly reads like a turning point of, “I understand this is a problem and I don’t want to stay on this path.” Addiction tricks you into believing whatever your vice is isn’t the problem (very much so displayed in the earlier interviews you mentioned), so this song is quite powerful in representing a moment of clarity.

Definitely!! You can make sure I don't faint in front of Billie or say something dumb like "your name is Billie and I'm freaking out!"

Yes! I've gotten 🤏 close. I've talked to Bob Gruen, Doug Hamilton, Kevin, and Jakob. Billie is the next logical step.

You can try to persuade him to come on GDC and do a private AMA with us fangirls. :eyebrows:

Good interview, but I'm a little unclear on the the notion that Saviors is "part of a trifecta with Dookie and American Idiot."

I think I do, hearing the whole album it made me think of many of their styles and earlier sounds, in some cases actual songs.  It’s a bit like they put loads of their best songs in a blender and out popped Saviors but I really need many more listens, I just have bits and pieces of songs in my head today.

That makes sense - and all tied together by the tour.
