do you guys think a song like 1981 will or will not have much appeal to anyone outside of Gen x? I just don't know if young people would care? I'm not sure. A lot of music is listened to in 10 second snippets now (tik Tok, stories, etc), so I'm worried about its relevancy/staying power?

I thought the 80’s was back in style. The clothes and music are pretty popular with Gen Z

I think everything and every genre is in style or back in style whatever. The music scenes from what I’ve seen all over the world had changed or evolved so much since streaming has become so conventional. Fleetwood Mac can still top charts with 30-40 year old songs if they go viral on Tik Tok.

I don’t think it matters as long as it’s a good or fun or catchy or interesting song. If it’s Tik Tok worthy that’s new fans. If it’s Green Day worthy diehard GD fans with lose their minds with happiness.

A lot of legacy bands are having huge stadium tours and it looks like people of all ages are into it.

the more they stay radio silent about 1981 the more i think it was just some sort of "test", when you write new songs you cant ultimately play them until you have your audience in front of you with open-air / arena sound systems etc

Im ok with that test. This means they actually give a shit again.

I have no hard feelings about the last string of albums because Billie needed to get his head on right. But the band needs to do something above and beyond again. Don’t leave me hanging with 21cb. And no, Rev Rad wasn’t it.

They could do what Fall Out Boy are doing and pretend their last few albums never happened. Stardust is said to be the album they would have dropped years ago had things went differently.   Green Day could say this next album is the followup to Breakdown but made by an older, wiser and healthier band.

Sounds really great, well put together and good ears. The only thing I’d suggest is the lyrics up on most websites and the previous covers are wrong in the verses/pre-chorus but that’s pretty trivial
