Technically fall is until December 21st, so single in December and album in January/February would be also possible 😄

Pretty unusual to release anything in December when it’s too late to ship merch for the holidays and everyone takes a break. More likely by October or latest November to take advantage of holiday sales market for pre-orders, concert tickets etc. I’m trusting Rob’s prediction of early 2024 assuming they are timing it to go with a new tour. So a single in Sept/Oct? “Fall-ish” can mean late summer.

May 12th, 2022. 

And then nothing afterward.  But most people assumed the song was a stand alone thing and probably not leading up to an album or more songs.    We WANTED more, but we knew the deal.

I don’t think having casual fans knowing they have a new song and/or teasing hardcore fans was the goal of playing it. IMHO is more likely they just wanted to try something new, a maybe give a little candy to the fans attending the festival.

I bet most GDC people played the song non stop and are already sick of it by today.   lol.   I'm looking forward to getting a clearer understanding of the verses and I think we'll be very surprised by the real lyrics when they arrive.   Big changes compared to what they performed.     And you know what?   1981 might not even be ON their next album.      Think about THAT.     Stand alone bop to keep the fanbase from FREAKING OUT because Green Day 14 is still very, very, very far away.   Could be like an Olivia or Dreamcatcher.    Played a few times and then gone....into the ether of time, space and coffee.

Billie (perhaps deliberately) didn’t even say it was a new song. Casual fans probably just assumed it was another deep track they didn’t know and forgot about it quickly thereafter.  This is not meant for promotion. I think they just wanted to give something to the uberfans that would recognize it as new and also (possibly mainly) to try it out and see how it sounded live.

Yeah. Didn’t look like they even rehashed it that much, and if there was any promotion intention behind it why not playing it at the Harley festival as well and/or make any mention of it on social media? Looks like a quite spontaneous move to me.

That is quite strange of a choice, if they release a professionally recorded live version of it I can see it.
