I agree that AI & 21 C are amazing albums with the former considered a classic. But to say that they are better that Dookie I feel is the wrong word. Different would be better.

Dookie back in 1994 sent a seismic shock through the music sound at the time, ousting the by now dreary and boring grunge scene.

As well as giving an amazing sound never heard before, the lyrics provided a connection with the listener that they could relate to, and was unique. So it certainly was not overrated. And is today still relevant with it's sound and message.

Imho, if Dookie had not happened, GD would have died. And there would be no AI or 21st C, there would be no GDC for that matter.

My top five American idiot, nimrod, 21st century breakdown, warning, revolution radio, I like dookie hehe but I'm sick of it I've heard it on cd and radio a million times now

Nimrod and Warning are my favorites over Dookie but I have to give props to AI, as overplayed as it is, whenever I do listen all the way through I’m reminded it’s genius.

@jengd Is oranges and lemons the Brit version of apples and oranges to describe two things so different you can’t compare? All I think of when I hear Oranges and Lemons is the XTC album

Arguably oranges and lemons are quite well comparable

Definitely Ai had alot of hype before it's release and it lived up to the expectations but like you I got pretty sick of it for awhile especially after storytellers because vhi played it constantly! Yet I always watched it though lol

No, you can’t add apples and oranges but oranges and lemons are same but different.

I listened to FOAM again recently and also noticed lots of random background noises like chirps and such. Butch did that on Weezer’s Pacific Daydream too. So weird. That’s his trademark I guess.

Lol I tried to listen to foam again yesterday on YouTube,  it's crazy how bad it is yet fans in the lyric videos were like now this is green day! I was stunned,  I replied no it's really not lol one person on the video for junkies on a high said "it's like green day and imagine dragons made a song together" freaking awesome! I'm gonna assume this person was battling covid and the fever was getting to him.

https://youtu.be/O0mXVKhZPws?si=6WEM10C_c35ukAGu This proves graffitia is a good song when you take away all the layers of shit butch walker covered it with

The instrumental version brings out all the instruments like the piano. Awesome Motherfuckin' song.

The quality of FOAM as a Green Day record could be questioned according to fans opinion, however Graffitia is a good song. It was placed in the wrong album, definitely.

All FOAM songs (aside from Fire, Ready, Aim) range from ok to good to me, what kills them is t hat they're badly produced or underdeveloped. I guess they weren't firing on all cylinders.

I’m in the minority who likes Pacific Daydream, but in any event, check out Bethany Cosentino’s (Best Coast) recent album Natural Disaster. Butch produced the entire thing (minus the last track) and played most, if not all, of the instruments and it sounds BEAUTIFUL. So I don’t think blame for FOAM should be placed fully at his feet.
