I honestly want a new sound from them. I want evolution to what they have succeeded with in the past.

I want a crisp, polished album that is fresh. Something that rattles the fan base into saying “this is different” but is so undeniably good that we can’t write it off. 

We haven’t seen them do this in quite some time. FOAM was just a look back at music from earlier times (at least it did to me), I think GD has always thrived when looking forward, being in the present. 

Good news is they seem to be taking this process serious and they seem proud.

I really hope the AI songs in these teasers aren't trying to hype up the album as as big or bigger than AI because often when artists says things like oh it's like xyz popular album, it's never the case and it just feels disappointing.

American Idiot: 1972 will follow the now infamous story of St Jimmy and Whatsername, though instead of looking at the lives of the youth in the Bush administration as American Idiot did, it will be a different universe chronicling their lives as they navigate through the 70s and 80s. 
This will be the first of a series of new albums, creating the GDM, or Green Day Multiverse, with 22nd Century Breakdown expected in March 2024

As the days into weeks roll by...

That's what this 1972 business feels like: an ordinary world.

I like the 16 track idea.  16 is a good number.

Today, I feel like the album could be very Rev Radesque, but I'm not sure.  The crystal ball is feeling weird.

Anything Rev Radesque is amazing in my book. (I know a lot of ppl consider the album 'safe' but it's my fave by them. So many bangers. [no pun intended] )

2 weeks from tomorrow, they head to Germany to resume the tour. So I'm pretty sure they'd have to be wrapping up the recording sessions any day now. Hope we get an announcement within the next 2 weeks!!!

They recorded before and after their last shows though - there’s no reason that they HAVE to be done with everything now

Yeah but the last few shows were festivals separate from the tour. The last Hella Mega show was in November

I guess they would still be born in 1972 even if they were 51 😂

I think it likely does matter to them to get it out on all of their 50th anniversaries though

When they began teasing this project in 2021 I certainly thought a 2022 release was the goal. Hopefully it is.
