I’ve been listening to sum41 recently. What do you guys think about their new album order in decline? I think it’s the best album of 2020

Maybe better suited for:

Being this excited for coke is risking a heart attack at this age.

I was sure it was shot because it was for the NHL.
Here Come The Shot. Yeah make sense in hockey.

Exactly what I thought

Yeah I'm really happy that Deryck found a way to write good song without being on the edge of the death like in Screaming Bloody Murder lol (my favorite album by far)
Green Day should stop writing about coke and partying. It would be good for them.

Sum 41 is what green Day needs to be. Last 2 albums are amazing and they did actually evolve in sound and are keeping it fresh and mature. Also, the screaming bloody murder thing is more akin to them IMO

Oh, it has claps buried on the mix, for clap lovers

I was literally just about to give my review:

”Well at least it doesn’t have hand claps.”

... now I really have nothing to say. :S

Good point.  It also would have worked as a Longshot song, like announcing them.

That album wasn't even released in 2020. It was released July 2019

I have concluded this would be an alright song if it was 1 minute

So you mean if they got rid of the chorus?

i mean if they got rid of repeating the chorus 20 times at the end

I have to believe that Green Day didn’t intend to give a great song to the NHL, they’d keep it for themselves. They know just how good this had to be to fit the bill and no more. I’m always complaining they throw away their best songs but here’s an example where I think they deliberately held back.

Again listen to Helter Skelter. It repeats the same line and goes on and on musically at the end until it ends with a shout from the drummer just like this does.  Helter Skelter is a great song. Sometimes you can’t judge a song by it’s bare elements like that because two songs that do the same thing can be vastly different in quality.  But Idk like I said this is as good as it needs to be and no more.

I think you have a great point and just because a song repeats itself doesn't mean it's bad, I love Know Your Enemy it's just this song doesn't keep my attention near the end, it just loses me completely.

I think so too, but I’m not sure what’s the point of doing that when NHL could give a lot of exposure to a strong track

Like I said the song does its purpose for a sport on tv It's just kind of forgettable otherwise for me

Turns out they were right, the exposure was crap. A delayed daytime game with no on screen introduction played behind a noisy highlight reel for a minute? Yeah, use a throwaway song. Even if the game hadn’t been delayed, this was barely promotion, this was a license. They already made their money when they struck the deal.  Now FRA was a little more hyped with the video intro on Wednesdays but still a license nonetheless and the song had to be short, loud and fast for hockey clips.

Song isn't that bad when you hear without the music video.

Makes me wonder how much they got that these terms were acceptable.

Thinking about the video and the NHL deal... they should have used some footage of San Jose Sharks scoring.

Yeah, the music “video” was really jarring. I need to give it another few listens without it.

If the lady who is featured really does do these aerobics lessons as a YouTube channel I think it’s really cool that they gave her some exposure, and it does seem fun as a real exercise routine. But it just didn’t translate well at all for this format. It made me want to listen to the song less, which is the opposite of what music videos are supposed to do.

Exactly. This is supposed to be a place to escape from all the B.S. in the world. Let's just enjoy the little bright spots we have. Thanks for being nice.

I am sad now though because the video you posted says it is not available in my country LOL.

What was the video?  It's been taken down now.   You're welcome.   I've been reading about Annie Get Your Gun and the punk rock aerobic lady.

The video was a song by Gene Vincent called Be-Bop-A-Lula :) I was just curious what the lyrics in HCTS are, so I googled Be-Bop-A-Lula and found this great song :D

Ah, yes, I did know about that song and got the reference. It seems they reference a number of historical things in the song. The lyrics may not be as lame as what we think (I also can't understand half of them LOL).

For the kind of rock n' roll, rebellious youth vibe they're going for here it could be a lot worse! The Bowie reference in the bridge makes me very happy.

So I tracked down the lyrics and while I don't quite get all the references yet, there is definitely a lot of familiar-sounding stuff here. I think they are trying to pay some tribute and also make some points, and I think there may be some ironic elements here too. I don't think we can just write this off as "Look, they are lazy and just keep saying the same things over and over."

Don’t need to track down the lyrics. Just clock lyrics on Apple Music or Amazon Music. Either way, your point is fairly on. It’s a call to arms. They literally say “this isn’t rock n roll this is genocide”. They need to sell records but they are making their own choices now. WB alone would never have allowed this to be the first release but in the scheme of anger raging inside of Billie, it doesn’t matter. He truly wants a revolution.
