That's what I was thinking. It would be such a mic drop way of leaving the label, forcing themselves out of their own record deal by rivalling and warring with themselves. It would be hilarious.

Just take it way too far where the bands actually go to war, with band members "dying".

Well that's what makes it even more confusing. Google says it GD, but the fans and the band say it's not.

Why am I actually enjoying the music the fucking network are putting out? Like money money 2020 was a good laugh but why are the ultimate test (if real) and ivankkka actually fucking bangers? I’m not entirely sure I’m comfortable with it tbh

I bet there are long time fans that don't know about any side projects, or anything beyond the studio albums.  Most people don't spend every waking hour on GDA and wikipedia like they should.

if you search for The Network on wiki, and click on the band members name (Fink), it directs you to the wiki page of billie joe armstrong .. 🤔🕵️‍♂️

Another crazy batshit theory that just popped in my head:

This music was supposedly written back in February or something right? What if Green Day originally wanted to release a hard hitting and outspoken political record (including Ivankkka is a Nazi, but obviously less Networkified), but Warner didn't green-light it because they were worried about potential backlash with those songs being released under Green Day's name.

So Green Day got a bit pissed off about this and decided to leave the label, but agreed with Warner that they could release the political stuff under The Network.

It might explain why Green Day seemed so happy to be leaving the label. Maybe they want to have more artistic freedom but Warner hold them back a lot of the time.

My mind is a jumble of insane theories right now. It hurts.

Nah if you google it I think it's possible to get the impression that it isn't 100% confirmed. You find stuff about how the band hasn't confirmed it, earlier stuff from when it was still a "rumour", and because loads of people/news articles have played along with it I think there's enough for there still to be some doubt in some people's minds, at first at least. Plus there's people who don't realise it's been done before and just don't think to google it and instead rely on Billie saying it's fake lol.

Even though it's extra hilarious when some people are fooled or confused by it, it still works even without that anyway because it's just funny for the band/everyone to stick to the story and play along so long.

I wonder now if it was always the plan to release a really shitty green day record at the beginning of the year, and a really awesome network record at the end of the year. Perhaps GD were playing the long con like we thought in the MOOTIK days, but not in the exact way we suspected

Damn, I've been a bit out of the loop lately, and now I'm late to the party. But I just listened to The Ultimate Test and it's FIRE!

I think they wouldn't make a deal that gave them that little artistic freedom and censored them that much

It must be the longest running gag ever... honestly, who expected the Network back, still being denied in 2020.  I know we speculated but I didn’t really expect this to happen. Brilliant 👏👏👏👏

I suggested something similar to this earlier. I do believe this has been in the works for longer than we think.

Yeah, while NFM was a spontaneous idea it’s possible when they teased another album this year they were talking about this one.
