Billie Joe Armstrong performing during virtual Joey Ramone birthday tribute concert

Billie Joe Armstrong is performing during a virtual tribute concert to Joey Ramone Tuesday night to celebrate what would've been the late Ramones frontman's 69th birthday.

The Green Day frontman will play a song called "Now I Wanna Drink Some Bleach," presumably a reworked version of the Ramones song "Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue." We assume that the new title refers to Donald Trump's suggestion that injecting disinfectants could help treat COVID-19, a suggestion the president later claimed was "sarcastic."

In addition to Armstrong, the lineup for the tribute concert includes former Ramones members C.J. andRichie Ramone, Sex Pistols bassist Glen Matlock, David Bowie guitarist Earl Slick, Blondie's Clem Burke, Bun E. Carlos of Cheap Trick, Talking Heads members Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth, and Patti Smith's guitarist Lenny Kaye.

Additionally, the late Alan Merrill, who co-wrote "I Love Rock 'n' Roll," is also on the bill. Merrill died late March of COVID-19 complications, so maybe he recorded whatever he was planning to perform prior to his death.

You can watch the show starting tonight at 8 p.m. ET via the Joey Ramone Facebook page. The online event will also raise money for Joey Ramone Foundation for Lymphoma Research.

I read it as Joey Ramone's video with Billie's version of the song (if I read the really small print correctly).

So he pre-recorded the song (Ramones song with new lyrics) and made a video of it using old footage taken by Joey R.

Since these are the entire lyrics to the song I’m not expecting much. He only had to find something new to rhyme with bleach.

When I first read that I thought Billie was going to be playing in a supergroup featuring Sex Pistols and Ramones and I immediately wondered if there would be words between them.  Because while I haven't heard the other Pistols talk about Green Day, Johnny certainly HATES everything about them.  

If we were getting a supergroup from this, these are my choices:  

Billie Joe on  lead vocals

Earl Slick - guitars, vocals 

CJ Ramone on bass and lead vocals 

Bun E. Carlos on drums, vocals   

 

A Cheap Trick supergroup would be amazing, and Billie is a fan of theirs.    Could Totally Happen.

I love the sound of these covers. It's very full and robust compared to the thin sound of FOAM.

I also love when GD/Billie cover Ramones songs. It sounds just right.

I've done both of these things Billie sings of.    One is fun, the other is not.   There is no high from drinking bleach, only a bleachy taste.
