The song is sad, why make it worse with those pictures? I tried to focus on his gorgeous hair instead. The lower (or minor?) key made it sound even sadder
ANTI Posted April 19, 2020 Posted April 19, 2020 That was a great performance, loved how simple and sweet it was, and seeing him use the Longview shirt was really heartwarming. On a side-note, reading the reception on Twitter and Reddit has truly made me realize how much of an established anthem WMUWSE has become for crisis like this. It truly speaks volumes of Billie's lyrical talent to tap into a such a personal emotion to comfort millions of people through music and it reminds me of what made me love this band in the first place.

That’s true. It’s funny how Good Riddance has become a milestone anthem and WMUWSE is a sad event anthem. That’s some powerful songwriting ability.

pacejunkie punk Posted April 19, 2020 Author Posted April 19, 2020 Omg they spelled his name wrong 😤😤😤
BillieJoe’sEyelids Posted April 19, 2020 Posted April 19, 2020 I love the video of Lady Gaga crying during Billie’s performance, and thinking about how Dookie was the first album she ever bought with her own money.
Give_Me_Novacaine90 Posted April 19, 2020 Posted April 19, 2020 Lady Gaga crying during Wake Me Up When September Ends
GreenDayItaly Posted April 19, 2020 Posted April 19, 2020 Billboard article talking about Billie perfomance https://www.billboard.com/amp/articles/news/9361343/billie-joe-armstrong-wake-me-up-when-september-ends-one-world-together-at-home
Slave To The Network Posted April 19, 2020 Posted April 19, 2020 Once again, Billie completely destroys it. This boy almost never disappoints. I love that it made Lady Gaga cry.
Aidana Posted April 19, 2020 Posted April 19, 2020 I don’t agree with song decision. Am I supposed to sit and cry over me and other people being stuck at home? He should have given something more uplifting and fun. Meet me on the roof would have been great. But if you are concrete going into depressing mode he could have played lazy bones, brutal love or Macy’s day parade. Let the song rest for a while
jengd Posted April 19, 2020 Posted April 19, 2020 I think it’s a very difficult thing to call. I (in UK) watched the livestream earlier on and I wanted something uplifting as so many of the performances were well on the way to being torturous (Jennifer Hudson and whoever ruined Let Me Hold Your Hand) but once that tone has been set it’s hard to break it. I don’t know if the artists were co-ordinated or not, I guess they must have been to a degree, but I assume Billie Joe knew that footage would be shown so had to go with something appropriate. The solution is that he should have got two songs of course 😉
BilIie Joe Armstrong Posted April 19, 2020 Posted April 19, 2020 If he’d played something happy (not that he has many happy songs to choose from), it would look out of place among the other songs.

So you’re implying that he has no punk left in him whatsoever? i just remembered his quote about being punk an being mainstream. I don’t think he needed to care what other people thought of him. I’m just bored with overplayed songs
RedundantIdiot Posted April 19, 2020 Posted April 19, 2020 He sounded great during that performance! I wonder if he recorded an additional song? When he did BOBD the other week we got Graffitia afterwards.
luketrebilliemike Posted April 19, 2020 Posted April 19, 2020 I think the song choose was solid, he knows how to play that song by himself already. People would complain he if played a song that isn’t a hit at one of these things. Like when George micheal or someone played a new song at the 2012 olympics.

Green Day are a mainstream band.
