The show was great. Boys had fun, I had fun watching all the videos and I'm sure Tiki Bar is special place for them. If you somehow find birthday parties embarrassing or anything other than fun, then you clearly haven't been in birthday parties.

It's not our job to look out for Billie's drinking either. As someone has said in the past, he never claimed he is gonna be sober for rest of his life, IIRC he even drank a beer like few months after the rehab. If everyone (in the band and close persons) are cool with that, so am I.

How can God’s favorite band throw such an immoral show 33.gif

Well, he did say that the iHeartRadio thing was his last drink.

Kerrang have now reported on the show:

WATCH GREEN DAY PLAY A SECRET SHOW IN A TINY CALIFORNIAN BAR

Green Day hit the Tiki Bar in Costa Mesa for an impromptu set in front of a small bunch of very lucky fans.

Over the weekend, Green Day side-project The Coverups played a show in Costa Mesa, California with The Interrupters, and the night seemingly culminated in an epic Green Day secret show in front of a few hundred very lucky fans.

The band started off the night performing covers (as per their band name) by the likes of The Ramones, The Clash and David Bowie, before playing two songs by another Green Day side-project, the Foxboro Hot Tubs.

Then, Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool surprised fans at the tiny Tiki Bar by busting out six Green Day hits, with a teaser of the rarely-aired Platypus (I Hate You) also performed by touring guitarist Jason White for the cherry on top.

The Green Day segment of the full 34-song set was as follows:

1. Father Of All…
2. Revolution Radio (Followed by Platypus tease by Jason White)
3. Hitchin’ A Ride
4. Welcome To Paradise
5. Burnout
6. Jesus Of Suburbia

Happily, the set was recorded by Bionic Buzz, and you can watch it in full below: (see article to watch)

The band’s new album Father Of All… is due for release in February next year.

I somehow missed this

Some moronic sites that I won't bother naming, said that Green Day break up and this show was their reunion. I have no words to express my sincere disappointment

the show.

For who?  You? BJ? The band(s)?

It was a birthday party for Tre, and they were generous enough to share it with a few lucky fans.  One of my bucket list items is to be able to be at a small club show like this for Longshot, Coverups, FHT, or I could not even imagine, GD.  Those there the other night got all of that wrapped up in a bow.  I could not even imagine how happy I would have been to be at something like that.  Everyone seems super happy on stage, and the show was fun for all involved, so I'm not sure why you find all that embarrassing...

Or are you referring to the drinking aspect of it?  To me the only one who gets to pass judgement on that is Billie (and/or his immediate family and friends).  Unless you are Billie or someone in his close circle, Papa, I don't think it's fair to call the show embarrassing.  If Billie has had a lapse in his sobriety, and he wants to be sober, then my hope is that he is able to change that for himself.  I have enough people around me who have struggled with different kinds of addiction to know that I can comment, hope, pass judgement, pray, get angry, give ultimatums, etc, til the cows come home, but only the one walking that path can live their life in the way that they want to live it.

Just my thoughts on the subject.  Peace to you, Papa.

The same interview said that Adrienne doesn't drink at all and never has, which was obviously wrong. Point is, he could've said literally anything like ''that was my last drink for now, not gonna ever drink like that again'' and magazine can just pick up certain words to make it more interesting.

Really amazing how they can even play their instruments that well and remember the notes as drunk as they are tbh

Functioning alcoholics.

I remember that too. I wouldn't say it was wrong because that was a straight lie. I wish Billie can be a little more honest about what he says nowadays.

He’s not our friend, he’s a music star who plays in a band called Green Day and at the same time he is the representative of a company called Green Day Inc. With that it comes that whenever he releases an interview he has to find a compromise between honesty and marketing strategy, a balance that most probably he has to agree and define with a marketing and press team.
The RR promotion was all about redemption and demarcation from the Trilogy mess, no surprise he said/had to say stuff like that in that era’s interviews. For sure some of that came straight from his hearth, but at the same time I’m pretty sure that part of that was pushed for marketing reasons. And the same applies to whatever they say today.
Asking for honesty and transparency to a music star, especially when it comes to such delicate and personal topics, is a bit naive IMHO.

He's not obliged to share any information or more precisely, his only obligation to give interviews is the obligation to promote his music, it's not like he's talking about his private life because he enjoys to - in fact he's never done much of it and only did so when his private life became "interesting" with the rehab stuff and also was used as a part of revrad marketing because it gave the album a good narrative. But you can't expect him to report on his life to keep us up to date.

I’m sure when he told RS in 2013 “that was my last drink. It’s documented” and if he ever felt like drinking again he only had to watch that video, and the stuff about letting the fans down etc. he meant it.  At the time he meant it.  But addiction’s a bitch and after a while you get complacent and forget and start to rationalize that you can handle it when the desire returns, which it does.  It’s a lifetime struggle for anyone but it doesn’t mean his intentions weren’t pure and different fresh out of rehab.
