Khaleesi. Posted October 10, 2019 Posted October 10, 2019 I don't hate it.... it's just not Green Day 😕
Squashie Posted October 10, 2019 Posted October 10, 2019 Just listened to it on some good headphones (loudly) and dang it. I love it. I can hear Mike's bass and Billie's vocals are coming through WAY better than on my iPhone speakers. I'm really liking the guitar tone on this one too.
Maddie86 Posted October 10, 2019 Posted October 10, 2019 This new era is lacking heart. Revrad had a lot of it, still breathing came out as a single at the same time I got sober and it really resonated with me, Billie seemed to be thinking clearly when he wrote revrad, but these new songs don't seem to have any meaning to them and Billie sounds like some kid rambling after he just drank his first beer.

Yes, there’s so much stuff going on in the instrumental part that it really renders way better with proper headphones/sound system. I just listened to it for the first time with my iPhone speakers and it sounds way way worse, the vocals are getting lost and the whole bass and keyboard tracks are barely noticeable. This is a big difference with FOAMF, that on the contrary sounds great on every audio device I tried it to.
Jorgemas Posted October 10, 2019 Posted October 10, 2019 Great song. Great vocals. Its a banger. I know they can do more good, but dont expect many just sit and enjoy.
thisguy3496 Posted October 10, 2019 Posted October 10, 2019 It’s not bad but it’s not good. It’s a lot different that what I’m used to hearing from the guys, maybe when I hear the album I’ll probably like it more
Eric Posted October 10, 2019 Posted October 10, 2019 The guys are 2/2 with this project so far, can't wait for the next single! 2 hours ago, Josh100_3 said: To the people that absolutely hate this track, may I ask what other kind of music you listen to? It’s not the greatest song in the world, but it does heavily remind me of the music I used to listen to in high school (2008/9 I guess?) I’m hearing The Hives, The Vines, The Strokes etc all over these two new tracks, which isn’t a bad thing but it is a pretty bizarre throwback sound to throw at your fan base out of nowhere... all they listen to is Green Day so I can see why they are use to Green Day sounding Green Day
That Dude Posted October 10, 2019 Posted October 10, 2019 We need time to live with the song. Too early for all this hate and love. In 2024 and onward we'll be on here hating on their latest marterial, saying how we want that classic FOAM sound.. Ugh
Eric Posted October 10, 2019 Posted October 10, 2019 I hope the next song is even more different, like a 🖕to the ones still hoping for something that sounds like all their other work.

I just played FOAM and FRA back to back LOUD on my wireless speaker and WOW!!! I defy anyone to listen to those two songs back to back on a decent sound system and not want to dance and chant around the room. It was very fun. That’s what they were going for. These are not songs to sit around, cry and get in touch with your feelings over. These are songs to dance to so you have to turn them up. And since it hasn’t been mentioned yet, “kick the dog when the whistle blows” is a play on the term “dog whistle”, which is when people say secret racist, antisemitic and other hateful things in code meant for other haters to pick up and chime in on. It’s a silent whistle that brings the trolls out and Billie is saying here that when the whistle is blown, he wants to kick that “dog” and call him a liar.
jengd Posted October 10, 2019 Posted October 10, 2019 What @pacejunkie punk said, I want to love her post 100 times. I’m saying it again too, crank it up and dance - oh, and smile while you’re at it! 😉😉🦄🦄🦄

What an absolute trainwreck.

Ok I am gonna take the time right now and give them both a proper listen......thanks for the idea!!
BilIie Joe Armstrong Posted October 10, 2019 Posted October 10, 2019 This isn't music to think deeply about. If you're expecting a serious, thoughtful masterpiece, you're bound to be disappointed. Listen to this like to Foxboro or Longshot or Dos and it's decent.

I don't agree with this, and I think this is very personal and depends on how you interpret and relate to these songs. There's no right or wrong opinion in this, but I take this as a chance to explain how I feel about this and why so far I can relate more to this era than the RR one. It's fucking long and no-one asked for it, so I'll be a nice happy rooting unicorn and put it in spoilers Spoiler I think this concept that Billie has been repeating in a few interviews (including the new Howard Stern one) explains this quite well: feeling like being constantly bombarded by hate, grossness and negativity, the difficulty in getting inspired, the desire to escape from all of this. FOAMF being an example of escapism. I love this, and I see a lot of hearth and honesty from Billie talking and writing songs about this (also with the Longshot), I love how they're making the music match with this, and the overall vibe of this era. And I love it because I can totally relate to it. I used to do a lot of politics and activism during my high school and early university years, I am still interested in politics and try to commit myself as much as I can, but I am totally overwhelmed and disgusted by so many things. So much that I felt the need to escape from part of that world, so much that I just feel like throwing up when I read or hear some of the shit that is being repeated on the news, online, and sometimes even just among people. Sometimes the only way to not throw up is a big fuck you. This has an impact also on the music I like to listen to. I still enjoy political songs when it's stuff like Bad Religion or the Clash, I like a couple of contemporary Italian rappers and bands that I think manage to share political emotions very well, but I mainly listen to "escapism" music, early 90's punk rock, ska, early Rolling Stones and Who records, Kinks, a lot of Talking Heads. Love is for losers, and FOAMF from what I heard, fits so well in it. Rev Rad on the other hand had a lot of meaning for the band and phase it was coming out from, but in the end, looking at that era after three years, I related to it only partially. To put it in another way: when AI came out I was a different person, I was one of those kids passively assisting to the world getting fucked up after 9/11, with a lot of shit going on and barely no politics on the mainstream channels, no social networks, no spaces of discussion, no way to find a way to relate with something bigger then you going on there, outside. Today is the same and the opposite. A lot of shit going on, and getting misrepresented, overly exposed, and constantly thrown in your eyes, ears, and mouth, here, inside, in your very personal social spaces. Thus I loved AI back then, cause it helped me to find a way inside, and I'm loving FOAMF so far, cause it helps to party outside. I will be a shitty poet in my next life 2
Eric Posted October 10, 2019 Posted October 10, 2019 if this had Foxboro Hot Tubs as the name GDC would all love it just because you do not like the new songs doesn't mean it's a troll album or lacking heart, Magnum Opus Of The Inglorious Kind doesn't exist no matter how much you want it to after hearing each single from FOAMF
solongfromthestars Posted October 10, 2019 Posted October 10, 2019 I've listened to them back to back on both decent speakers and headphones and I'm not really getting the urge to dance. I'm sure I will live, but not feeling it listening at home. Also, I'd argue that the things this era keeps being compared to (FBHT, ¡Dos! and The Longshot, though I'm not really seeing it) do give the listener something to think about. Some songs, like Stop, Drop & Roll or Fuck Time don't, but others like 27th Ave. Shuffle, Lazy Bones and most of Love is for Losers do. No, I'm not saying that means everything should. Just pointing it out. It's also totally possible (and lots of fun!) to dance to most "deep" Green Day songs. Who doesn't want to dance to Armatage Shanks or Uptight? tl;dr I don't think people are viewing these songs the wrong way, they just don't like them.

Ah, thanks for this, I interpreted it in a similar way, but that line makes much more sense now.
Morse Code Guy Posted October 10, 2019 Posted October 10, 2019 I really like this song now. This song sounds really cool while driving. P.S - I really do think that this album was made in just 2 months or something. And that, it’s just a “Fukc you Warner! We’re saving the best for next year” vibe album.

Morse Code Guy Posted October 10, 2019 Posted October 10, 2019 Also, with the Artwork, i do think Warner pressurised them to make another American Idiot, so they ripped its artwork and trolled Warner
Little Boy Named Booze Posted October 10, 2019 Posted October 10, 2019 Just get over the troll thing lol. It's their album and they wanted to do it.

From the new interview with Howard Stern it looks like they're considering the option to stay with Warner and that it all depends on how the contractual terms negotiation will go. So I don't really think this is an intentional "fuck you" to Warner. I think this is the music they want to make right now, with no filter (except Billie's vocal filters ), and we have to accept it, whether we like it or not. There might be more music coming out next year, but I don't think they're putting the "worse" music out now because it's, maybe, the last record with Warner.
