Oh yay, Billie can sing

This performance is making the song grow on me so much! And I have to say the filtered voice in the recorded version sound much more “natural” now and after a few listens, I get that they’re trying to reach this “live” vibe and it actually makes sense with this song. I still understand people disliking it tho.

someone should tell billie live fx are a thing. falsettos kinda always sound weak. there's a reason we had to castrate people to get that effect before microphones were invented.

That was awesome! Billie sounds pretty confident and I love to see Kevin Preston playing with them 😁 Matika out?

That would be amazing but I think it's probably just because Jeff lives in Arkansas and Kevin lives in California so he's already available. I would guess that Jeff will be there for the tour. Have to wait and see.

Great performance. 😎

Yeah we did that  mostly for Italian opera. You can listen to some contra tenor performances to get an idea how it sounded.

Billie Joe isn’t moving that much in this performance, but his vocals sure as hell are tight.

But man, Mike’s on fire!!

Actually, they all are. But Mike really blew me away in this performance. Love it!

Well that wasn't bad   I've liked the song from the start but it sounds even better live - and I often feel like the opposite is the case with TV performances. It sounded more fleshed out in a way, their playing is tight (tbf we knew this), Billie Joe(47) is hawt even when standing almost completely still.... and his voice sounds great!

Yeah but is not that falsetto can only be reached with either castration or microphone filters 😅

I'm sure there are less painful options

With Kevin on guitar does this mean we are finally rid of Jeff 😱

or is he just temporary filling in 😰

Unfortunately I think this is the case. And Matika related jokes(?) apart, I think this is actually unfortunate, I think he is a much better guitarist and has a much better stage presence.

Kevin is a showman. Definitely a good addition to Green Day.

May not be the place for this but what is everyone's beef with Matika? 😂

i was half joking i just mean it's hard to get a strong, resonant falsetto and billie isn't very practiced in it. he doesn't even do the falsetto for 21 guns live most of the time, let alone an entire verse. they don't do restless heart syndrome live either, only did it 4 times when they played the whole album front to back.

the fx on the studio version of foam help flesh it out and saturate it and tbh i think his live performance could use some of that.

[edit:] also the "weakness" of falsetto can work for softer songs but this is clearly a more energetic song that warrants a stronger sound, falsetto or not.

Something about him using his fame to shame an ex girlfriend or something like that I’m not sure on the details

I guess what they're doing instead of fx is Jason helping out with the vocals? Or is it a backing track?

Yes, Jason (maybe both Jasons?) and Mike are definitely doing backing vocals in the live performances of the song.

Great performance, this is so much better than the studio version. But I really don't like the falsetto, I think that's my main problem with the song. Maybe I would like it more if he sang those parts with his normal beautiful Billie-ish singing voice, don't know. The little screams in "miracle" tho😍

Still feeling no emotional connection to this song whatsoever, but hey. Gotta mount the unicorn and move on, I guess. Bring on the tour and more dates, guys 🙂

Oh yeah I remember that. It was on twitter mainly I think.

I'm just annoyed at how many people doubted Green Day on delivering at the live performance; have they ever not delivered a live performance in the past? Come on, one of the things I love about them is that what you hear on vinyl/CD is the same thing you get live. Get over yourselves, have a little faith, and remember why this band is so great in the first place.

Got cheated on (allegedly) by his ex, told the fans to go after her because he was pissed off, all I know about it. Was a shitty thing to do but if she did cheat on him (no idea if that happened) was probably a heat of the moment mistake, should’ve apologised(again no idea if he did)
