Magnum Opus Of The Inglorious Kind - confirmed NOT to be Green Day

I don't think that FOAMF is a stunt; it's a statement though. It's raw emotion propelled through a very elegant "I QUIT" filter on their behalf, for Warner Bros Records. The oversaturated edginess and "cringe" vandalism of it all sums up the statement they're making.  I know this is official because Genius released an official tracklist for FOAMF .

Now, the leaks for the speculated album do look legit, like everyone here and on Reddit pointed out; they're far too detailed to be fake, and the whole artwork is a great leadoff the God's Favorite Band notion, and you know that Green Day loves a good story to tell through music. So like a lot of people are saying, it will be released through Jingletown Records, and FOAMF serves as a mere "here's what's going on, here's what's making us deviate from our original path, but we're still gonna make a big thing out of it" intermission to the storyline.

Is that a challenge? Don't tempt me with a good time. It'd be too easy to trick all of you

I actually challenge you haha. If you want to put this argument and thread to rest, creating your own faked "leak" would be a great way to do it. And you say it's easy too, so why not?

I'm not convinced you could create something as close to the Green Day sound as the leaks, so prove me wrong.  Make me look like an idiot haha

I have to agree, Bang Bang got “leaked” so many times we can easily see past the bullshit 😜

Genius says that Magnum Opus will be released on January 17th 🤔

Genius is a site where everybody can add things. So no reliable source

The logical conclusion from this is that Bratwurst is the Magnum Opus.

No, if you google that and click on the first thing that comes up it takes you to the Father of all Motherfuckers' "tracklist", whether it's official or not. To be honest, the song names sound legit if you look at what Billie said about the album; the only one that feels like the odd one out is Bulletproof Backpack (I appreciate the fact that Billie's taking a stand and making a comment on the past tragedies as he was clearly affected by them, but it's getting a bit political and has nothing to do with partying and all that).

This the wrong thread, but the song titles except Bratwurst on genius are confirmed in interviews from kerrang and rolling stones.

I still don‘t unterstand why the band, the management and Warner let this hoax just happen for such a long time. A disappointed fanbase is not the best marketing strategy

See that's the thing- I'm crazy excited for FOAMF, even if I end up not liking it so much. My expectations are always high for this band because I know what they're capable of. If it doesn't immediately knock my socks off, that's okay; the trilogy took a while to grow on me too.

This Magnum Opus thing is like a minigame for a select few of us here. Right? I'm certain I don't speak for us all in saying this is a neat little time killer while we wait for the album we KNOW is coming. For some hoping it's real, it might be a little more serious than that. If this thing ends up being a hoax after all, that's totally cool (with me). What I don't understand is why anyone is determined to shit on the very idea of it being a thing. I sincerely hope nobody falls into depression if this mystical record doesn't pan out.

Exactly, we know for sure that they're glad to get away from Warner, that they're not absolutely putting their 100% support behind this album, and that there's more music coming in the next 9 months other than FOAMF, so it's just a matter of figuring out what that other music is and what it'll sound like

I feel like Bill Schneiders post should have been the end of a speculative thread that shouldn't have even started. 🤷‍♀️

Where's that post?

@kristóf Bill Schneider wrote "Panic land must be laughing their asses off at you guys lol..." on here a couple of pages back.

But there are still many unanswered questions and possible theories, even if MOOTIK is a lie. I say keep it rolling, who doesn't like it doesn't have to read.

To me Zane Lowe saying "Oh that's quite an Opus" SMELLS.

Of all fucking words.

Thanks!

Yeah, my thoughts exactly. Like, it's a good song that's been "leaked", whoever made it, and I do want to hear it and I am curious who's made it, cause that 10 seconds stuck in my mind more intensely than this new single to be honest. Also, we need an explanation for this shitty cover - which could be just for the song, not the album..? Maybe it's AI because the new record's artwork's not done yet as it only comes out in February.

Also, I love this theory and try not to spoil anything, but if you look at the fake/leaked cover you'll see that the font used for the Magnum Opus.. title looks really identical to the Know Your Enemy font which you can just download any time and use. I mean, why go with that font... you know.

But yeah, still curious of who's made that song, or how that will sound like, and what's the story behind this whole thing.

He's obviously well informed about how the fans have reacted to all these things, and tried to put some extra oil on the fire. It doesn't mean that the band's on board with this whole thing, it'd be completely different if Billie Joe said it. It could be just Lowe messing.

It makes perfect sense. (What you're saying I mean)

The leaks and the MOOTIK cover are all almost confirmed to be fake but I insist that the theory still stands, I think we can still have a nice, easy going, rock n roll album with FOAM but something tells me that maybe that wasn't the type of record they necessarily wanted to make at this moment (I could be completely wrong of course), hence another album before the tour.

I loved FOAM but everything surrounding the album it's too odd, there must be something.

Either that or they've gone mad.

I'm being repetitive here, but pretty much the only thing I would want answers to is the whole situation where they went back in June to add more songs to the album. Was it just an EP before??? Or did they have a longer, more normal length album and just change their mind on it?

Without knowing this info we got from Matt, I wouldn't believe this theory in the slightest, but it just makes me wonder what has gone on behind the scenes.

Time will tell us 🤗 We also know they had 17 songs and only 10 made it to the final cut, so maybe they replaced some songs after those additional recordings, or just didn’t use them. No need to worry too much about the future when there’s a here and now that still have to happen :P

In the KROQ interview, they said they took away songs. Started with ~17 and ended up with 10.  Not saying they could have went back in to re-record some parts or completely different songs.

As far as I remember Murder City was written recorded and mastered in the very last stages too. You can go back to the studio anytime and record something if you've got the permission from your label. They can also tell you to stop recording if they believe your album's ready, like they've done it with Sum41's Screaming Bloody Murder. They've recorded about 10 songs when the label said Ok it's done, Deryck ended up paying for the studio to record a few other songs they added to the record.

So spending time in the studio doesn't mean anything in this aspect.

Spoiler

Just realized 21st Century Breakdown was released more than 10 years ago... Fuck we're old.

The Magnum Opus theory is definitely plausible. I mean, the SongsForAssholes IG has 71 posts and we’re only getting a simple 10 song record out of just 17 recorded songs? For them to most likely be documenting the recording process on an Instagram account tells me that much, much more work had to be put into something!!!

With a 17 songs album, you would have not said that. And they had 17 songs. I don’t think the number of posts on Instagram is an indicator of anything related to this.

It's not plausible. It's pure speculation because some people don't like what the band LITERALLY just released. I don't care what the post count on the PRIVATE instagram is. We don't know what's on that account and it may never become public, which they have every right to choose to keep to themselves. It's relevant at this point to me. This is the album they are putting out right now. You people are grasping at flies...

Billie said they had 17 songs and cut it to 10 - I believe that.
