That Dude Posted December 13, 2019 Posted December 13, 2019 Good job, Panicland. As I clicked subscribe on your youtube channel and looked you up on social media, I realized what the goal was here and you've done it. Their subscribers and followers are going up and up and up, because Green Day are so great.
Guest Posted December 13, 2019 Posted December 13, 2019 @Panicland. Been listening to the two tracks on repeat. We need them all. Fucking hell. You really are inglorious bastards.
stories and songs Posted December 13, 2019 Posted December 13, 2019 I can’t even say I’m disappointed. I don’t care who made the music, I just want to hear it! The concept of a fanfic album is so innovative. Super excited for it.
Billie Hoe Posted December 13, 2019 Posted December 13, 2019 Totally agree with @Thatsername, this is the first time I've felt excited and good about "Green Day" since before they announced the Hella Mega Tour. I've been letting Green Day and what they do on a daily basis just completely go past me, didnt even care if they performed or attended an event or released a single or whatever, and in my... 12-13 year career as a Green Day fan, that has never happened before. And now I'm actually giddy again, I'm enthusiastic about releases and news, I'm talking to my friends about it and showing that video to my family who dont even like Green Day, just like I always did with Green Day stuff. Even THEY have noticed that my "Green Day phase is over". I'm even checking this thread everyday, can you believe???? Panicland's GD songs are really really good and even though their music usually isn't really my thing, I'm doing the whole excitement thing again, just for their fanfic instead of the original that I should have liked. MOOTIK is the Green Day album that should have been and I'm happy Panicland have decided to give it to us BTW
steve46 Posted December 13, 2019 Posted December 13, 2019 Nothing from GD yet. I think they are not so amused. I am also not very happy with that.
killjoywhatsername Posted December 13, 2019 Posted December 13, 2019 I love these songs but I have to wonder if FOAM was better.. would be people be requesting them so much.
Littleshi Posted December 13, 2019 Posted December 13, 2019 fake fake fake, but again, panicland posting songs with samples of the recording of american Idiot, they dont have the rights, green day dont have the rights either. please someone can explain me how this band is promoting itselft this way? if use samples from american idiot for my own and get some credit warner will act. who knows about panicland before this?

steve46 Posted December 13, 2019 Posted December 13, 2019 I think that this whole shit is fake again. Panicland and Green Day are fucking us together. No way that they would allow to use their material for such fan fiction. The band MUST know about this.

And if they really think its funny, I think it truly adds to the proof (like as if we need more) that FOAM is not the real album.

greenalert997x Posted December 13, 2019 Posted December 13, 2019 It's been a ride! I just finished reading the last 10 pages and saw Panicland video Honestly, I'm not even mad at them after all. It's nice that they've clarified and we officially know it was a one big hoax. I think MOOTIK will always be a part of FOAMF era. Hours of analyzing and collecting evidences. We've made 119 pages XD It's actually weird that the concept of new GD album turned out to be the opposite of how we'd perceived MOOTIK to be.

HAPPY ZOMBIE UNICORN Posted December 13, 2019 Posted December 13, 2019 In theory, they would need Warner approval: https://www.nolo.com/legal-encyclopedia/permission-sampled-music-sample-clearance-30165.html Note that when you sample music from a pop recording, you need two clearances: - one from the copyright owner of the song, which is usually a music publisher, and - one from the copyright owner of the master tapes, which is usually a record company. Yet, they are probably risking it since they know GD doesn’t care, and in the eventuality Warner sues them they might try to have this labeled as a “fair use”, under one of these three exception factors: “When reviewing fair use questions, courts primarily look for three factors: - You did not take a substantial amount of the original work (say, ten seconds of a song versus 60 seconds). - You transformed the material in some way (for instance, you added new base sounds to a melody). - You did not cause significant financial harmto the copyright owner (perhaps you are using a bit of classical music in your heavy metal rock song, which appeals to a different market).“ I think all of them could be used in defense of Panicland, yet: “Do not believe the widespread myth that "less than two seconds is fair use." There is no "magic number" like this. Also, some courts apply a fair use rule only to the musical composition copyright, not the sound recording copyright. For example, one judge ruled that any musical sampling violated the sound recording copyright. You can use the above arguments to defend yourself against a lawsuit for sampling without permission. The problem: You will not know for sure which way the judge will rule. And, most likely you will have to hire an attorney to represent you in court.” In short it all depends on the court where they case would end up, and consequently on whether Warner actually wants to put its lawyers in motion for this.
Thatsername Posted December 13, 2019 Posted December 13, 2019 1 hour ago, Beerjeezus said: This is so fascinating. I believe this is a quite unique situation. Of course for most of us this will forever stay a funny prank we fell for, but at the same time it's kind of redefining what "a green day album" means. This is different from fanfiction, because we did believe this was Green Day and we most probably would've happily kept believing it for a while if it wasn't for Panicland admitting to it. So yeah, when we're listening to Magnum Opus the same way we would listen to a legit GD record ("it's giving me some of those Green Day moments" instead of "haha these guys played us so hard") and putting it on the shelf alongside our collections, we basically have a Green Day album that's been written and recorded by somebody else. Which is really amazing, considering that two days ago, no one would think of the possibility that Green Day could be anything but BJA and co. Oh yes. Didn't even Einstein say "Green Day is relative"?

They are jokesters themselves. I mean I can name a few, like the fact that Panicland uses a lot of samples from the band's work (most likely without permission) but the biggest reason is that most people don't care for FOAM and cared far more for this. I'd like to think they supported and encouraged this, but ahh I dunno about that, it's a little dodgey. I really hope Panicland don't get in any trouble for this.
BilIie Joe Armstrong Posted December 13, 2019 Posted December 13, 2019 If Green Day or Warner sued Panicland, this would blow up and even more people would listen to MOOTIK and even more people would think MOOTIK is better than FOAM, so it's in everyone's best interest to not sue
AnonymWarnerGermany Posted December 13, 2019 Posted December 13, 2019 I heard Warner won't sue Panicland, if they release Rome falls today 👀

IcyMoffatt Posted December 13, 2019 Posted December 13, 2019 I can't believe people hang on for months to the theory when it was proven that the videos were from Panicland's studio. I must admit: I was fooled by the prank until long ago I realized from which studio the videos were from. And I feel bad to have spilled oil on the fire when I pointed out the Instagram account's name was refering to a character from a movie Billie loves. It convinced more people GD were behind it. I fell into the trap set by Panicland. Seriously, well done @Panicland for fooling GDC for so long, but I still think you were seeking for attention again by doing the hoax. 19 hours ago, Little Boy Named Airplane said: Panicland can't be more Canadian. Filming their "revelation" in front of a Tim Hortons ❤ I thought the same thing. We can't argue from which country Panicland is from. LoL. 21 hours ago, AnonymWarnerGermany said: Panicland should consider doin more rock stuff. These songs are so f.ing good. I agree. They have more talent doing rock music than with their pop candy normal stuff. I have my own point of view of pop boys bands. Panicland has talent, but... my words will be too hard on them so I will just say: @Panicland change your style to rock music, don't continue as a pop boy band. 23 hours ago, GDFan2019 said: Imagine how awesome it would be if this whole situation gets Panicland a spot on the Hella Mega Tour!!!
