It seems Panicland are giving mixed messages as to what they intended this project to be. Not trying to criticise or anything, just curious. 

Because they have the money to afford everything that they did to promote this. that’s why it’s not impressive. If all of those songs came out we would know for a fact that it’s not Green Day. We would assume it’s a tribute album. 

Dookified does this stuff, but he does it in a DIY way that wouldn’t promote his band in any single way shape or form. 

these are a bunch of rich kids who simply had the money to fool people who were excited about something. 

yes they may be talented but what they did is far from original. 

this is why i think it’s annoying. a bunch of upper class kids using connections to promote themselves. fuck wits. TONs of bands make songs in the vein of other musicians and don’t use Judas tactics.

Did I say that they sampled the whole thing? No, what I am saying is that for three months you believed that this was GD because of the samples, as many people tried to explain to you for months, while you were ignoring them/calling this impossible.

Honestly If I were in a band and some other band decided to record an album in my style as a passion project I would be flattered. And like you say, things like Sherlock and Dr Who are written by and star completely different people to previous incarnations of the same show. 

At the end of the day, fan fic can be fun and is just a harmless form of showing your love for something you admire. Panicland clearly have admired Green Day since they were kids. I enjoy hearing other people attempt an incredibly difficult task in creating a rock opera sound like Green Day managed. I gotta say Panicland did one hell of a solid job of it too.

im venting my opinion on something i think is dishonest and weird. not the music, the way it was gone about. 

panicland is a band signed to a label. they are not free from criticism. they had the money to fool people and promoted themselves afterwards. that is not trolling in my eyes, that’s just wanting attention. just look at the billie complex the lead singer has had over his entire career since they started out. 

props to them for making good music, it fooled me. 

dont play internet therapist though, we’ve all vented an opinion on a topic we are passionate about. i happen to like music a lot and i think this is simply gross.

Now someone tell me that listening to this in relatively high quality compared to the indirect audio sources of the IG videos you can’t tell this is a fan product heavily based on sampling and stacking. Nothing to take out from your effort guys, this sounds amazing, and it’s a clear demonstration of your talent. Some of the melodies are just beautiful! But if someone can actually believe this is GD recorded and produced music, well go to a ear doctor soon

Take A Stand sounds a lot more like Green Day than Don't Patronize Me. Vocals in the latter don't really sound much like Billie at all. Solid tracks though.  

It's funny, in the leaked clips I was so sure that was Billie singing, the small segments sounded so much like his unique voice. But the vocals in the actual tracks don't sound much like Billie in reality. You can easily tell it's someone putting on an impression, whereas in the leaks it sounded a lot more convincing.

It really depends how much is being borrowed. Putting forth the majority of your effort and time forcing yourself to write and sound like another band is an awful thing. I've seen enough bands that had zero songwriting skill that had devoted their time to plagiarizing. With that said, there's still only so many chords available for use so you're bound to sound like somebody else at some point in time (even in the smallest way possible). It's happened to Green Day on several occasions despite being quite original and famous for having their own sound. 

Taking influence from another band and songwriter while continuing to write as an individual is a nice tribute. I'm obviously influenced by GD and there's a handful of songs I wrote that would definitely fit into the GD catalog. There's also a ton of songs I wrote that would have no place in it yet without their influence I may not have gotten there. The sound may be entirely difference but maybe I was influenced by their song structure or something small like an effect that they once used. 

Sometimes our original sounds come from the mix of influences that come through. FOAMF is a great example of a very unique song that sounds like no other song due to several different types of influences being at play.
