Can we just listen to the songs and pretend they're legit

"Even Rome had to fall sometime. Honey, kiss me in the ruins of you and I tonight"

This is possibly the greatest line Billie Joe who turned out to not be Billie Joe has written since 21st CB.

Seriously Panicland, fair play to you. Genuinely that is some fantastic lyricism right there. And it definitely sounds like something Billie could have written too, stylistically.

I so fucking agree. I just hope it somehow turns out that we do get the full tracks, since as we now know, they have been recorded in full. I want it so bad, even if it's the only material from Panicland I'd end up liking (not a big fan of their own style).

In terms of pretending to be Green Day, including the said lyrics, that's a fucking great job. And definitely objectively better than "I got paranoia, baby / And it's so hysterical". What the fuck happened to Billie's writing anyway? Maybe alcohol does kill brain cells after all...

@Panicland: to enter this thread and talk to us gave you at least 1800 sympathy points to be honest, but let‘s get serious again after we all laughed and had fun:

Give us the songs.

Please.

Just let us listen to the songs... just for once if you can't release them, but WE NEED TO HEAR THEM

Posted

Seriously @Panicland just drop a dropbox link or something and we will donate to your PayPal if you dont want to sell it for legal reasons. We REALLY want those songs.

If GD think it's funny like Bill said, surely they would give you permission to use the songs with the sampled voice parts?

And if they don't, they're just jealous brats who don't want more people to know you're better than them :)

Or upload them on YouTube, all kinds of shit is allowed there right? I think most of us know how to download YouTube videos

The effort you put into this deserves more recognition than just being remembered as an iconic prank!

The question is whether Warner can sue the shit out of them as well. Not 100% sure how this would work, but I think it’s not just the band having a copyright role here. Look at the American Edit case.

If they upload them on YT Warner would be for sure able to take them down in minutes, that’s the less secure channel. They also have a “confession tape” where Panicland admits to have sampled GD songs.
But of course there is the possibility that these files will be accidentally lost by Panicland, and that someone will anonymously upload them on an anonymous file sharing service :P

Anyway to be honest there is an intellectual property violation here, a substantial one since that is what creating interest here making these songs really “sound like Green Day”... because part of it it’s Green Day.  So the band has all rights to not want to have this out there.

I know about American Edit but nothing about a "case". What happened?

They could sue them even if they just dropped a link in here?

If they explicitly publish them yes, I think so. I am not sure whether they can be sued if the files anonymously surface on the internet, that would be at least complicated I think. But it would definitely ruin Panicland relationship with GD if they don’t agree with this.

No, if they dont sell the songs, they cant be sued for that.
And guys comon, I would totally eat my nimrod cd if green day would sue them, that would be emberassing (for gd)

If theyre planing to sell the songs, they may need to replace the "HEYS" and stuff with their voices.

I would love to see a EP from panicland called "Magnum Opus of the inglorious Kind" with the same artwork, but the members from Panicland on the cover instead of gd^^

I disagree because RevRad had some really great (and even some of Billie's greatest) lyrics IMO. But true, this line could totally be Billie's. Well done. Panicland are the true fathers of all motherfuckers, and fathers of all mockers too.

Edit: The MOOTIK theory might be debunked. But my personal theory that something about this GD era seems completely odd and out of place still stands.

I disagree, RevRad doesn't have single good lyric in that album, unless you're Outlaw who is Really freaking out because We live in Troubled Times.

Sorry. Can't stand that album.

About this whole MOOTIK thing being fake, good. Garage Green Day = Best Green Day. By far.

I could argue against this so much but I won't cause I don't want to enter the next loop after finally getting out of the MOOTIK one alive 😛

Based on what you say this? You don’t need to sell an item containing a copyright infringement to have a copyright infringement. Of course they can be sued even if they release it for free. You can get sued if you upload or download a free torrent containing a copyrighted item, this is a totally different case but the legal principles at the ground of it are essentially the same.
And it’s quite funny that now everyone says that the Green Day samples are irrelevant when you all felt for this exactly because of those samples 😄
