Christian's Inferno! Posted September 17, 2019 Posted September 17, 2019 The instruments all sound fine. The vocals have too many effects on them but I'm not gonna blame Butch for that because Billie's been doing that for years before this

Mixing and mastering isn’t exactly Butch’s job those are different steps in the production process if they use RevRad’s mixer than it’s Andrew Schep’s job

Saw the video from puremix of bang bang where Andrew Scheps tweaked some plugins from the session made by him. Usually the producer deals with the artistic direction of the record and chooses the songs with the band. They usually work along with the sound engineer to give a good idea to the mixing engineer about the sound and the balancing. Btw there are producers who do more and others that do less 😅 Tchad Blake is a great choice btw Bang Bang sounded a bit plastic and cold imho, this sounds very warm.

In 21stCB there is a touch of Butch Vig who also mixed some Garbage's records. for me that's Green Day's best sounding record.

Montclare Posted September 17, 2019 Posted September 17, 2019 @Adorkable I found a different way in. I only looked at the same ones for Green Day. GD had the best numbers for everything other than Rock Digital Sales and Alternative Digital Sales, which went to FOB. Green Day Hot Rock Songs- 9 Rock Airplay- 3 Rock Digital Song Sales- 18 Alternative Songs- 13 Alternative Digital Song Sales- 12 Mainstream Rock Songs- 14 Fall Out Boy Hot Rock Songs- 17 Rock Airplay- 22 Rock Digital Song Sales- 7 Alternative Songs- 23 Alternative Digital Song Sales- 7 Mainstream Rock Songs- Did not chart Weezer Hot Rock Songs- 20 Rock Airplay- 14 Rock Digital Song Sales- 25 Alternative Songs- 19 Alternative Digital Song Sales- 16 Mainstream Rock Songs- 33

Butch Vig knows things including how to manipulate the acoustics at Oceanway

Christian's Inferno! Posted September 17, 2019 Posted September 17, 2019 The position of the tracks on the Hot Rock Songs list is an indicator of how close they are to the Hot 100 because both those charts measure the same things, except one chart is for rock music only and one is for all music. Bang Bang peaked at no. 8 on the Hot Rock Songs chart and got to no. 4 on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart (so no. 104). This track is at no. 9 on the Hot Rock Songs now and is likely to chart higher in the coming weeks. It has a chance to get onto the Hot 100
DookieLukie Posted September 17, 2019 Posted September 17, 2019 It's crazy how the Hot 100 basically ignores Rock Radio in their formula.

What’s also notable is that the 21CB tour was the first where it seemed like they took their live sound quality seriously. I noticed a substantial jump in their live sound from all their previous tours. When I saw them live that tour (after seeing them from Insomniac through Warning live), I was floored by how good they sounded. The mixing on 21CB was excellent, and Vig’s influence in the studio must’ve made an impact. I know it was a one time thing, but I would’ve always liked to see them work together again. That album and tour were a force of nature.
