When Bang Bang came out they did play that and they actually backed rev rad quite heavily throughout the rest of the single releases. I’m wondering if we’re looking for something (this song being played on alternative/rock stations) too early. I did a google search on the time that it takes for a released song to appear on station playlists, and this part was helpful: “Radio stations are less concerned with release dates (the actual date that a song will "drop" in the market) than they are with add dates, which are the dates that tell the radio stations when to add a song to its playlist. A song may be "released" on the first of the month but may not be "added" to the schedule for another month.” Is there anyone on here knowledgeable about radio playlists who can say whether FOAM should be in rotation less than a week from release? I don’t know why I don’t know this knowing how I follow music.
DookieLukie Posted September 16, 2019 Posted September 16, 2019 I honestly think this song has more crossover potential than most of their songs since 21CB due to the dancey/boppy vibe of it. I can hear it fit in well on alt radio.
1039SweetChildren Posted September 16, 2019 Posted September 16, 2019 Top 40 radio won't touch this song, but I don't think that's their goal at this point.

Alternative is usually pretty supportive of the group anyway, even if just because of their legend status in the genre

I think it could fit in with the rotation of newer alternative songs and I figure that's what the band is aiming for Where I am located alternative radio's playlist has significantly changed. The change came around in 2012. There's a lot more modern poppier acts and before there was steady rotation of garage rock, punk rock, ska and some indie and college rock stuff. They do still have this in their rotation but the ratio has been severely adjusted. In the late 90's and early 2000's Green Day played some shows for the station and they were heavy in the rotation right till about 2009. As of late the rotation for Green Day has been scaled back on the station but they couldn't hold back for Rev Rad those songs got a good push. 37 minutes ago, 1039SweetChildren said: Top 40 radio won't touch this song, but I don't think that's their goal at this point. Hasn't been their goal since 21cb ended. I know Oh Love hit the Top 40 but I don't think they were necessarily trying to repeat the success of the previous 2 efforts. The only song on the trilogy that might of been the band going for it was The Forgotten

jengd Posted September 16, 2019 Posted September 16, 2019 Kerrang spotlight this week is on the Hella Mega Tour bands and I heard the tour advertised on Absolute Radio this am! Not heard FOAM yet though.
The Grohl Posted September 16, 2019 Posted September 16, 2019 Yeah the more I hear the song the more I like it. It actually grew on me faster than Oh Love did. Still hate the vocal effect during the verses but I can deal. I just love it when the hook kicks in and everything amps up! Such great energy!
greenalert997x Posted September 16, 2019 Posted September 16, 2019 I must admit that I like the falsetto in verses much more than verses in Still Breathing that I also find untypical When Still Breathing came out, it was the same thing, people were wondering (me included) 'Is that Billie?', 'Doesn't sound like him at all'. I remember I couldn't get used to the different way he sang and couldn't stand the 'uaahh'. Now it's better, I don't hate, but just don't like SB and to me, personally, SB is a filler one along with Ordinary World on RevRad. But I'm aware for many of you SB is one of the best songs GD has ever made, that's great. I don't get the poppy, painfully poppy way they produced this song. In one article in Poland it was written: 'Green Day let out another single in the style of One Direction, but with a powerful message'. It was painful to read, but I kind of agreed with that statement back then. And the same thing like whining about how much Green Day turned into shit with their new single repeat itself every time they put out a new single xd I was very disappointed with SB and I got worried about the rest songs to come, however I really dig RevRad and currently I believe that foamf is going to consists of pure rock and roll I finally got used to the falsetto and find it as a really interesing move, sounds experimental, but besically in a while I won't come back to foamf often and I hope this song will be the weakest off the album.
Thatsername Posted September 16, 2019 Posted September 16, 2019 I heard the song on the radio for the first time today, Germany's biggest rock radio station Radio Bob played it.
Chin for a Day Posted September 17, 2019 Posted September 17, 2019 Alt nation is playing the song as I type this

BilIie Joe Armstrong Posted September 17, 2019 Posted September 17, 2019 Bang Bang also was much better...
Christian's Inferno! Posted September 17, 2019 Posted September 17, 2019 Bang Bang's first chart positions numbers Rock Airplay - 9 (https://www.billboard.com/charts/rock-airplay/2016-08-27) Alternative Songs - 16 (https://www.billboard.com/charts/alternative-songs/2016-08-27) Mainstream Rock Songs - 17 (https://www.billboard.com/charts/hot-mainstream-rock-tracks/2016-08-27) Bang Bang peaked much later. So in terms of first week numbers, FOAMF has better chart positions

HAPPY ZOMBIE UNICORN Posted September 17, 2019 Posted September 17, 2019 Bang Bang was released on a Thursday, so I think when it first appeared on the charts it had a full week of performance (Billboard counts Friday to Friday, so it should have entered the chart on its second week). This is a Tuesday to Friday performance. It also had a (kickass) lyric video supporting the streaming on YT. Here the only thing we have is an audio file. 7 minutes ago, Christian's Inferno! said: Bang Bang's first week numbers Rock Airplay - 9 (https://www.billboard.com/charts/rock-airplay/2016-08-27) Alternative Songs - 16 (https://www.billboard.com/charts/alternative-songs/2016-08-27) Mainstream Rock Songs - 17 (https://www.billboard.com/charts/hot-mainstream-rock-tracks/2016-08-27) Bang Bang peaked much later. So FOAMF is doing better and in less time, at the moment.

From my standpoint I see why people may dislike the song but I think the chorus is bad ass and I can relate to the lyrics 100% With Oh Love quite the opposite happened. After the initial Green Day is back high was over it became very much a flat song for me. It's definitely well crafted and the vocal phrasing in it is one of the reasons why it reached Top 40 but there was just so much more on Uno that interested me. I think if Sweet 16 didn't seem so cringey with that term in the song that could have possibly been a cool single. The only issue was that the instruments didn't have any breathing room in the song there was way too much compression and that type of song would of called for less compression. Especially on the snare in the verses I would have even tried to accent it with some reverb. 42 minutes ago, Montclare said: Just checked Billboard. Bang Bang hit #1 in several countries in Rock and Alternative charts. Here in Canada Bang Bang actually just bubbled under the Top 40 which is a huge accomplishment considering it's their most aggressive single since Insomniac era. Edit: Just saw the post above which makes a lot more sense and shows that it may not be doing as bad as I thought. Just seems to be too early and we should be more patient to see where this peaks.

I'd imagine once it gets a music and/or lyric video, it'll also help streaming numbers and thus chart performance
