[Anthony Fantano voice] I'm feeling a light 7 on this one. [/Anthony Fantano voice]
It's not their best song, but it's catchy and it's fun.

Funny enough, Fantano himself just came out with a Track Review for it and he absolutely hates it. Oh, so RevRad played things too safe for him even though the intention behind that record was stripping it back and getting closer to that old Dookie sound he supposedly holds near and dear to him; but now that they're taking more risks, not playing it safe, and making music that's totally different, off the wall, and exciting, he's all like "What the fuck is this shit?" He's so representative of what @Ross_19 was saying earlier about people having expectations for this band that are too high for them to ever meet. Nothing they do will ever be good enough for him, so he should just stop reviewing their new stuff and let it go.

Yeah, I like the dude's videos, but I certainly don't agree with him on everything.  I remember him trashing "Burials" by AFI too, and I loved that album.

I believe rest of the album will be a stripped down rock and roll in the spirit of iDos!

A dose of songs in style of Fuck Time, Makeout Party and Lady Cobra, but with more harmonies

Would be great

FOAMF is quite catchy but unapproachable at the same time

After a moment of refelction, I don't worry about the rest songs (or just less). Billie said that the lead single represents the entire shape of foamf, but it only means they want to keep the spirit of rock and roll. The description and unfortunately... sickening cover art basically confirms that they're going to remain loopy

If the single had been filled with synthesizers instead of guitars, I would have been worried, but obviously the ''only'' strangest thing is Billies vocal. I don't suppose he recorded the rest nine songs like that. That would be unforgivable.

I cannot wait to hear some beutiful harmonies, Billies natural vocal. I dream about a snippets of his soothing vocal, like in Troubled Times or in Outlaws (the last part). In Outlaws a little distorion on vocal sounds perfect.

Since they care less about commercial success, it's quite explainable why they chose that single

He goes higher and higher on each track.

It's like he seems to get some kind of satisfaction from pissing people off. Although oddly enough he did enjoy Paramore's last album which surprised me.

Imagine being this worked up over some dudes opinion on a song that stinks?

Yikes....

I enjoy watching bad reviews of things I like.....that's how I discovered Fantano.  Bashing Green Day for an album, haha.  His musical tastes are the exact opposite of his most of the time so he is fun to watch and get angry at. Lol.

John at ARTV also hated it and he's a huge Green Day fan.  He and I usually agree on reviews but not this time.

Billie is kind of being weird this time around. Watche what would have been a cool skit where him, Rivers and Pete answered questions.  But all the questions were dumb except what is your dream collaboration and Billie ended it abruptly.

I wanted the answer!   Are the three bands secretly working on each others albums?  Or is Billie doing a whole personality to go with the album thing???

I saw it posted somewhere, but does anyone have who the mixing engineer was on this?

Anyone outside of Green Day World did make a good review about the song?

Song kicks ass. Also, they literally said on KROQ interview  that they’d be getting out another album in 2021, so 10 songs for a year, pretty reasonable. Let’s see if we’d get more singles. Still, the music video for this song is gonna be DOPE.

I'm super excited for the aesthetic.

Few more thoughs about this song:

- Even if it isn't that a "great" song, is fun, catchy and fast. More than enough to keep people asking for something else

- Production is great. For a band that always change their sound album to album, this was a really interesting move. It was a matter of time that they embraced this kind of sound. In fact, I think it took too long. This is what I like the most of the song, that raw, lo-fi, hip-hop-ish kind of sound. I'm looking forward for hearing the rest of it.

- The Unicorn is great. It kicks so much ass, specially that cringe-worthy bunny of AAF. If they wanted to make a good statement, they did it. Nothing better than fucking up things with a direction behind it.

Just heard FOAMF on a local radio station in Philly. First time i've heard them play a GD song that wasn't one of the 90s hits or boulevard.

Guess they are just sharing the show’s photos.

Anyone want to go deep on the lyrics....what's this song about in your opinion?

We are the rivals in the riot inside us?

Watched the live performance of it.

Heard my local radio guys talking about Hella Mega.

I'm officially in love with this song.  It's a brave and bold move for a band still finding creativity after 33 years as a band.  They didn't sell out and they didn't repeat themselves.

The song is good.  Sorry Fantano, it's good.

Just came here to post Fantano's review but saw it's already been discussed.  Highly entertaining lol

Pretty sure Fantano hasn't liked a GD album since Nimrod

Doesn't Fantano hate most things that are within the rock and punk genre? Pretty sure I've seen him shit on a lot of bands in the past

Pretty sure it’s Chris Dugan as he is GD’s in house engineer and he posted about the album that it was great working alongside Butch Walker

Anybody else hears some Stop, Drop and Roll in the vocal melody of the verse?

His review is pretty justifiable. This is the only song that made my ears bleed. That falsetto is pretty bad. Even for a non single its low quality

Any guesses on how this song will do on the alternative/rock charts?

To be fair, RevRad playing it too safe wasn't the only reason he didn't like it, that would be a straw-man of his review. He also lamented the "poor lyrics" on for example YoungBlood, the arguably poor production and the at times terrible transitions between songs (end of BOTW anyone lol). On the whole, I think he almost certainly has a negative bias towards them, because he started the RevRad video by saying "I lost interest in the band latest after Nimrod". Now that's a very narrow window of music styles he'll "accept" and he didn't even say he liked either Nimrod or Insomniac. So yeah, he definitely has a negative bias towards the band, dismissing pretty much anything that isn't Dookie, I guess, but I don't completely disagree with his criticisms here. I think if you tone them down and give a few extra points in the rating, you'll get to a more reasonable review.

Ok, so it's time to post something here again, I guess.

I'd say the song is...ok? It really doesn't excite me at all to be honest. Yes, it's loud and probably fun live but I do not care very much about it. Which is a rare thing for a lead single from Green Day. I pretty much liked all of their lead singles since I became a fan in 2009, and that includes tracks like Know your Enemy and Oh Love. I'm surprised how so many people say that it's catchy because I think it's rather forgettable. Maybe Billie's voice is so off-putting that I just can't focus on the rest of the song? I dont know.

That being said, it's their music. They do not have to make me or anyone else happy. If this is the the direction they chose then I accept that. But so far, it's just not for me. I will still listen to it, but if I wasn't a massive fan of them, I probably wouldn't. But we'll see. Maybe it will grow on me (which definitely WON'T happen with the album cover).
